Last movie you saw

That whole tribute turned my stomach as well. It comes up as 'A tribute to Heath Ledger', but was just all of his movies, one by one, for hours yesterday. They do it for ratings, but so bloody tacky.

I know.. And they had to have the biggest name dropper in the universe
to present it.

They had someone present it? I didn't even keep it on the channel long enough to see. They could have done it in a much more tasteful way, but they chose just to flood the channel with the movies. Who presented it?

The biggest name dropper in the universe Angela Bishop

As soon as she came on the TV went off channel and the DVD came on

%-( Confused?
:/ is a wry grin.

Lust, Caution
Is supurb. It is a love story, with a difference.
Tony Leung Chiu Wai is a very different character to the gentle Mr Chow Mo-Wan in "In the Mood for Love".
Wei Tang, I have not seen before, but I am looking forward to seeing her again.

Dare I say, it is Ang Lee's best work yet? ( - or maybe I should see how this film ages before I claim it is more subtle, polished, better put together, than Brokeback Mountain.)
Well, if it is not his best yet, it is his second best, an extremely classy film. The best I have seen this year.

The story is curiously American - although it is set in Shanghai and Hong Kong during WWII (filmed in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Malaysia), and we are taken to the French quarter, the Japanese quarter, British parts of Hong Kong, Cantonese parts of Hong Kong, Shanghaiese parts of Shanghai - we even have a German in an Indian bazaar for good measure, but no Americans (Which I suppose is natural for the time of the Japanese occupation.)
Maybe it is the jazz music, or maybe it is because this film is curiously like and unlike the American Amy Tan's book "The Kitchen God's Wife".
It is hard to keep up with, at first - attempting to read the subtitles and the glances darting around the ma-jong board. But the gist of the movie is not dependant on catching every nuance, which is just as well because it is beautifully nuanced.
It does deserve it's R rating. There is not just sex, but sexual violence. Not for everyone. Probably not a good choice for a first date.

Oh when did they show Heath's movies? I saw there were 2 of them on Channel 10 on Saturday night, but I wasn't home.

Saw "Cloverfield" last night, it was pretty awesome really. A good creep out, and awesome special effects.

:D

I just got home from seeing Sweeney Todd. I loved it :D, even better than Sleepy Hollow which is one of my all time favs.

American Gangster wasn't half bad. At least they didn't portray the gangsters in a "cool" light, it was a more realistic take on the genre and story so kudos to the director for that.

I suppose when the Oscars get nearer I'll have to see some of the leading films. Apparently "No Country for Old Men" or whatever it's called, is a contendor.

Ha ha, I saw Sam Newman at the Jam Factory on Monday, what a laugh. He seemed very interested in our conversation.

I watched The Italian Job on TV last night. Typical Hollywood spam: dull screenplay, uninspiring characters, tedious plot, and plenty of product placement. Even Edward Norton failed to lift this miserable effort to anything greater than an average TV show.

2/5

When I heard that the new Italian Job wasn't set in Italy, the movie was lost to me.
As bad are remaking "Day of the Jackal" without all the French stuff.

Sorry for the late reply........they had it on Austar, and I'm talking non-stop Heath movies, with 'A Tribute to Heath Ledger' prefixing the title. I didn't stick around to see Angela Bishop, but CLE says she 'hosted' it.

She hosted the tribute on Free To Air on channel 10. I'm not sure
what happened with Austar as I don't have pay tv

That's two 'blonde moments' (and I can say that because under all this lovely red is insipid blonde!) because I typed 'decription' instead of 'description'. Perhaps it's time to go to bed lol
