State Of Play

This was actually a pretty good movie. Interesting plot, with some twists and turns and I liked the fact it was more traditional than flashy modern films. I think the flashy approach to these sort of films are coming to an end which is good!

I've seen the original tv series starring John Simm, it was so excellent I can't make myself watch the movie version.

Huh I thought that was crap....Didn't scare me. Just another movie trying to be scary and do the whole video camera thing liek blair witch. That did not do much for me either. POS.

Haven't seen the original, so can't comment. With all things you'll just have to see if you can seperate this from the original. If you don't think you can than avoid it. While it was a good film, it's not good enough where I could see it over coming such things.

Mel Gibsons coming out early next year in a film of the british 80s Miniseries "Edge of Darkness," might be something you're interested in. Another political thriller type one.

Ah thanks for the heads up ;)

The Avatar Movie

And here I was thinking this was going to be a movie based on the TV series "Avatar, The Last Airbender" Sadly it's not.......... I would have loved a live action version of that.....

But from what I have seen of the trailers this movie looks kind of awesome... But hell the hype is almost overpowering.

But I have noticed. Seems to be a movie with a "message" oh oh.. there goes my spidey senses.. Will the message get in the way of a good story?

According to it's director if you believe him this was some 10 years in the making. So my hopes for this movie are set very, very high at this moment. I will probably still go to see this, but only if there is a normal cinema showing it. The whole 3D process doesn't work prperly for me with my eyes as they are, so I look for normal screenings of movies.

Plus I think this whole 3D thing is a fad that should have died, and died a lonely death somewhere. Just my opinion.

Now the movie. Evil humans mining on an alien planet. Aliens native to the planet probably are not too thrilled with the humans, and who would blame them? Ooh and what are they mining "unobtanium" OMFG wasn't that the metal the Earth ship had in the movie "The Core"..... This does not bode well for me.

Avatar has been getting a lot of really positive reviews now, which is a nice relief. I was worried that it might not be that great, apparently it is. So it's meant to live up to the hype from all the reviews.

And there is an Avatar Last Air Bender movies coming out. It's been written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

I've already decided I am going on Thursday during the day while the kids are at school and the adults at work, lol, can't wait really and am glad to hear positive reviews.

Nights of Cabiria
This film is both heartbreaking and life-affirming. The final scene is so powerful. Giulietta Masina is absolutely marvelous as Cabiria. One of the best acting performances I've seen in quite some time actually.

G.I. Joe

Awww all the haters can got bite my fat ass.... :D

This was fun.. Pure popcorn turn your brain off fun.

Loved the movie from start to finish. But the ending was very open to a sequel as it wasn't the person you thought it was at the end.... Bad guys won kind of.

Which makes it fun...... For a change.

The effects did not over power the action. And Christopher Eccleston......what an amazing actor. He's brilliant as a bad guy.

7/10

ohh..I watched movies on the planes.

Time Travellers Wife.... I've just finished the book, but I thought the movie was very good.
Eric banner was much nicer as Henry than the character in the book I thought.

My year without Sex....Aussie movie with Matt Day. I liked it. Very believable.

500 days of summer.....bit of dribble.

Mao's last dancer.....pretty good but not rivetting.

Julie and Julia...perfect for insomniacs. Actually..the actress who was Julie was nice. Not sure who she is.

Well, I'm not going to risk my teeth on your ass....
Christopher Eccleston. Hey come on. He was a great Dr Who, but this isn't a highpoint in his acting career. A bad Scottish accent, bad lines. But this a movie based on plastic toys, so the quality of the dialogue and depth of the characters isn't what is on offer.

Some good action sequences however.

Little Miss Sunshine, on the TV Sunday night, however was really great. I wish I had watched it earlier. I might even borrow it on DVD to see the parts of it I missed due to household duties.

LOLOLOLOLLLL!!!

Whilst it was enjoyable, I couldn't help but thinking that it was nothing more than a more serious version of Nation Lampoons Vacation. For example...

  • Dysfunctional Family on cross-country trip.
  • Emo kid that doesn't want to be there.
  • Crappy car slowly becoming crappier as the trip progresses.
  • Weird relative.
  • Relative dying during trip, and Dad breaking the law due to his determination to get to the 'end goal'.
  • Family kissing and making up at end.

See what I mean?

Yeah, but it has one of my favourite movie quotes ever.

"Quick! Everyone! Just pretend to be normal!"

Plus I have never seen "Nation Lampoons Vacation", so that helps. I love Little miss sunshine. Abigail Breslin is awesome.

Little Miss Sunshine was sweet but i can't believe even that film had a best film nomination at the Oscars over Apocalypto (one of the best films i've ever seen i've come to love Mel Gibson again) it's really disappointing the Oscar's overlooked it that year.

9.5/10 Apocalypto
