"This Is It", the Michael Jackson movie.
Ok my mum was over from NZ and she coaxed me into going, didn't really want to, and was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this.
The music, at least the songs featured on the movie, was quite strong. I'm a bit of a child of the 80s so grew up with some of his music, went off him a bit when he weirded out from early 80s onward. I still love a couple of numbers, like Billy Jean.
He was always one to give plenty of exposure to the male dancers which is in itself quite 80s, and they had a raw energy about them. Quite sexy in fact. The Aussie boy gets featured a fair bit, including at the start when he's crying a little, and the Aussie girl on guitar with the Greek name - she was excellent.
He seemed quite thin and frail at times, when talking with studio mixers he came across as doped up, but seemed healthier and more vibrant on stage rehearsing. Another highlight is the duette for "I just can't stop loving you".
Some of the lines were funny, including when he is complaining about the noise in his earphones - he goes into great description about it being like a fist in his ear.
I came away, though, with a positive view on MJ, it was a good, reflective movie going experience. And a view that his shows were more about creative, dance energy (and talent) and less showy and sleazy exhibition (than some of today's pop acts (gag gag))....so I'll be giving this a whopping 8 out of 10.
