Jade 2013 Appreciation thread

I know you have concerns about who Jade favourites and responds to, and those are valid concerns. Im thinking more about what she posts herself. Her own posts and photos have always been surprisingly circumspect for someone who wears their heart on their sleeve, as she did in the house.

With Ed, I hoped after he (or Nick) deleted every instragram photo other people had previously tagged him in around new years day, that he was starting to be smarter about his social media. I think he is trying

Actually, I wasn't even thinking about her favorites. I think she has learned, and is learning, about sharing info about any future romantic interests. I think she has ABSOLUTELY learned from the Ed stuff to keep things closer to the vest. I appreciate that whatever is going on with Dan, she is keeping it relatively offline. Even if he is only a friend, I think she won't chance pics and such because of what has happened with Ed. So, in that way I see her being more guarded, and I applaud it. When she first left the show and everything was all wrapped up in Ed, she was more open. I can't imagine anyone going through all the horrible comments not being more guarded. I think she's handled that bit like a champ.

As far as other pics, I agree, she's always been more selective than others.

Don't worry about a puppy check out Finn in a tuxedo, I might finally get a date by hanging out with this guy. It was an absolute pleasure being a guest speaker for Dalejbeaumont on board one massive cruise ship #health #business

Am I the only one who can't see what's so bad about what Ed posts on social media? I mean sure he could probably cut down on a drinking pic now and again if he's after a media job, but I really don't see much of an issue. The only problem I've ever had was when he started following a new model every hour and liking bikini pic after bikini pic when it was still considered that he was with Jade.

You're not. Overall, his pics have been pretty harmless. As I've said, I was mainly talking about not feeling the need to share all the time, whatever the content. Certainly, with what he wants to do, he'll have to watch what he posts. I also had in mind him following all the girls. But, no, in terms of what he's posted, most have been okay.

For me it is mainly for the image he is wanting to portray for his career. As an ex pro AFL player the drinking with the mates photos constantly appearing was OK, but now as a would be presenter he should be projecting a different image. He had statered to do that after NY but he is still drawn to the drinling type environment shots a bit too much. Unfortunately for Ed, when he drinks his face gets all sweaty and glisteny which just makes him look sleazy. He needs to be mindful of how he wants to be perceived

Beforehand it was the absolute sloppy drunk shots and the three week binge on bikini gewls because of the perception he was still with Jade

Yeah, I do agree that he posts/shares a lot, but I don't think it's too detrimental either. In fact if I were an Ed fan Id probably love getting that insight, and to be honest one of the only reasons I actually liked him with Jade right out of the house was because we got so many pics of Jade and what they were doing. Grated the content of what he posts now doesn't interest me much at all, but I'm sure the Ed fans would be loving and really appreciating the insight into his life.

I've always thought that the worst pics of Ed (I.e. The drunken, sweaty, sleazy ones) didn't come from his own account but rather the pics he was tagged in by other people. Unfortunately for him those pics are going to pop up unless he avoids those environments all together. Even if he's in a club and not drinking he's still going to get the sweaty/sleazy look considering how hot those places usually are. Now the partying and clubbing are obviously a huge part of his group's culture (and one of the main reasons why I don't think he and Jade are at all compatible), so if he wants to overhaul his image entirely it would probably require him to cut those ties which he probably isn't willing to do in order to help his public profile (which is understandable). He does post a questionable one himself now and again given what line of work he wants to get into, but I do think he balances it out well with othe stuff. It's the fan pics/comments that often cause him the most grief and that's a lot harder to control.

I think he should stop videoing when drunk - I know he ends up deleting some of the them when he sobers up but they can be pretty embarassing for him (albeit hilarious)

I think I must just be selfish because i get a laugh out of those videos and I think in a way they're good for Ed and his public image because they show a fun and lighthearted side of him that we never saw in the house. He was always so bloody serious, and let's be honest, while nobody in the media is going to want to hire someone that constantly looks drunk, they're not going to want to hire someone that has a public reputation of being boring and too serious either. Ideally though he'd find ways to portray "fun" without it always having to be alcohol induced...but then again he might genuinely be one of those people who struggle to have real fun unless alcohol is involved.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it - now that I don't consider him and Jade as 'together' at all it actually quite amuses me to see the dorky/drunken pics of him. Aside from the fact that I'd be starting to think that he's getting a bit old for the share house/partying/drunk lifestyle it at least shows he's able to cut loose and NOT worry so much about his public persona. (maybe because I'm not invested in worrying about how his reputation is perceived professionally)
Regarding going to the tennis and sitting in what's basically an outdoor pub and getting pissed instead of 'going to the tennis to watch the tennis' - I think THAT is weird but there seems to be a lot of people who do it lol.

Thanks aurora for posting that article!
OMG how bad are the writers for these types of things in this country! I'm almost embarrassed for them!
Not only the writer, but the editing staff.
Such stupid mistakes like getting the names wrong should NEVER happen.
Perhaps they should spend less time trying to be half-smart and actually check what they're writing because they make themselves look like incompetent morons.
In fact, I want to know what they're paid because I'll put in an application for my 12 year old to take over their job (I'm sure he'd do it better!).

haha exactly. Wish I'd read the thread all the way through before posting mine because we're pretty much saying the same thing lol

I quite like Ed, always have. Pictures are always nice to see. My initial point was when you feel you have to post, I think you should step back. I don't think it's necessary to share something with the public everyday, and that is true of people I'm truly fans of. Perhaps I'm different that way. I get how it can be used for promotion and all of that. But, when people depend on public feedback, I think it's dangerous. So, if he is learning to step back, I don't mind it, and I think balance is necessary. I'm very aware that people are happy with whatever he shares. They are the very reason I think balance is important.

Ahaha I do that all the time!

In addition to that though, I think it's important to consider how they were portrayed on the show might influence how easy it is for them to get work in the field they want right away. With Jade for instance, I actually the more the BB stuff dies down the better it will be for her to get into acting. While I think BB was good for her in the sense that she picked up a very large fan base and that can be used as a ratings incentive to get her jobs, I also think it will work against her in the immediate future while she's still recognised for BB. I think casting people are aware that when people got fame through things like BB it's often difficult for people to see them as their character they're meant to be playing instead of the person they were seen as in the house. What makes it harder for Jade is that due to the editing where in the last month they rarely showed anything that wasn't Ed related, she does still carry that stigma of being recognised/remembered by the Jaded stuff that wasn't very popular. It's the same for Drew who now has said he wants to get into acting because although he was in the house until the end, he'll probably be remembered as the guy that helped Tully cheat on her girlfriend on national television. It's tough because obviously there's more to both of them than the Ed and Tully stuff but I think that's what they will be remembered for for a while, especially while there's still such a public interest in the status of Jaded and Drully post-BB. I think the faster the BB stuff dies does the better for both of them if acting is what they want to do.

So many thoughts about Ed...
For me, personally, I mostly just cringe at the majority of Ed's tweets and pics. I find he just comes across, for me, as a bit of a try-hard. I can almost feel the desperation in him to be thought cool and hip, or whatever it is that the kids are calling it these days. The poses, the thumbs up, the tongue out, the finger pointing, just scream "poser" to me. Couple it with the alcohol and apparent frat boy mentality of a guy in late twenties, and I roll my eyes and think, "Oh, he's that guy." It's quite humorous when you think of how hard he worked to portray himself as NOT that guy, and then ends up right at this spot anyway. It doesn't help that he seems to surround himself with guys who appear to have the same mentality and lack of emotional development so the constant pictures of him and his mates just make me roll my eyes and mutter "those guys" over and over. And they are probably entertaining, funny guys who really don't deserve that label, it's just what I see when I see the pictures and tweets.

I also think it's kind of sad that Ed, in the house, seemed so much more interested in new experiences and ideas, and now he just seems to be back in the same old rut. I do think there is something to Gemini's idea that the only way Ed can be comfortable letting loose is when he gets some alcohol in him. We pretty much saw that every time there was alcohol in the BB house. Unfortunately, in my profession we call that self-medicating. I hate to see Ed, who I honestly think has a lot going for him, slide so easily into that behavior because I think he'll find it difficult to grow past it since it appears to be somewhat of a crutch.

One thing that I think is clear now is that Ed and his friends embraced social media long before Ed entered the BB House and he was comfortable using it in a certain manner, i.e. to rib his friends, to share drunken escapades, to keep in contact...in other words how it was originally meant to be used. Once he got back to that world, I think he slipped back into that old style (which is really different than how he tweeted away from that environment), forgetting that there would be people tracking his behaviors on SM and judging him for it. The massive NY cleanup seems to indicate that he realized it wasn't the right path, but I'm guessing he's still having a hard time not slipping into familiar behaviors.

Yes, the Ed in the BB house who didn't want to be labelled as the typical footballer is just like that (some of the time).
I don't want sound like I'm hating on Ed but as a general observation it seems that Ed is like a lot of other AFL players and young Australian men in general who when they go out to drink must get drunk (binge drinking). It's common in the football culture because most of them abstain from alcohol during the season. I don't know if that's something you grow out of?
This behaviour may have been the reason why he and Jade parted at the night at 'Motel' and it's also why he's always quiet on SM after these outings (too hungover to do anything)
