Is Ben a good gay role model?

Gay or straight has nothing to do with it.

To depersonalise or devalue a human being by referring to them as a 'thing' simply because you don't understand them shows arrogance and a lack of respect for the feelings of others. Nasty, petty immature man.
Agreed and all the while going around gushing "I'm a good person"....

Being a poor role mode for any human being is good enough reason not to vote for him. The fact he's an atrocious role model for a minority doubly so.

I don't think he's set out to be a role model, I don't think he feels he represents the gay community.

Why must minorities be marginalised like that? I don't see Michael being told he's a bad role model for the ginger community.

It's funny the confident law student whos currently attending university, is genuine, harmless, compassionate and nice to others and puts their needs first is booed by the crowd when Estelle is an example of what we should all be like and has the qualities we look for in a friend. Whilst Ben has never had a higher tertinary education and has been fired in every job and is not a role model to 9's target audience , ehhh its what 9 want to show, Ive given up on the series when they showed the percentages, they dont want Estelle to win.

I am not gay.

But I would hope the gay community would be proud to have Ben as a representation of their community.

Like all of the housemates, Ben is perfectly flawed.

While I watched him in the house, he made me laugh, he made me sad, he made me laugh, he made me cringe, he made me laugh, he made me annoyed and he made me laugh.

He seems to be surrounded by good people in his life and in my experience, good people attract good people.

Ben or for the win!

Ben is so stereotypcially gay in so many ways that of course people will see it as relevant. Given the amount of ...erm... bitching, for want of a better word, that seems to be his trademark, I'd have to say that he is a lousy role model. I hasten to add that we all have faults but the question was about whether he's a good role model and on that he gets a big NO from me.

I don't see how any self respecting gay person would be proud of Ben.

I dont see him proclaiming to be a officially appointed representative, Do we think Zoe is a good role model for the rural community?

And I can't see how any self respecting person can spew the amount of hatred towards a someone who is a contestant on a TV reality show, who has been edited within an inch of their life, so I guess we are even.

I do think Zoe was a good role model for the rural community.

Sure having a crush on someone in that environment is never going to look good playing out on the TV, given that un-reciprocated affection sprinkled with jealousy will make the most level headed person a bit bonkers, but that aside, I thought she was a great housemate.

They all are contestants on a reality tv show, why should any of them be role models at all. A housemate may inadvertently become a role model but I suspect few who walk in those doors does so with that goal in mind. Folk who want to be role models for any nitch, or just in general go into some kind of service profession and not entertainment. Some entertainers do go on to use their position to bring awareness to issues though.

Any person looking for a role model from a reality TV show cast is deluded.

It's funny you say that, because as far as "role models" go, I think the whole lot of them have done themselves proud. People like Brad, Zoe, and Charne were perfects examples for young people being able to fit in, even when you feel you don't fit in.

If you have no positive role model of your own, you will search for one everywhere, and I think that is a good thing. I also think there were many good role models in that house, for younger people to emulate if they are looking for inspiration.

A person trying to find a prefect role model in one person is deluded. They all going to have a negative side to it. Its when u see positive sides in different people, and u look up to those positive qualities is what can give u role models. You construct own role model with these qualities.

Accepting negative qualities is also a major contributor in ur happiness, u don't have to agree with them, just accept.

Totally agree with you.

I think of a role model as more of a guide towards all I can aspire to be in regards to reaching my full potential.

As a young person we seem to refer to that person as a "role model" where as an older person you look at them more as a mentor. I think everyone should have a mentor.

Why does any glbt person in any media have to be put under a banner of Role Model. ppppffft. Its ridiculous.
On saying that though, BB has had great gay role models like David & John & they were always evicted?
All my friends can't stand Ben. They do think he is so full of himself, bitter at such a young age. Vile, nasty, hideous & backstabbing. He'll will end up as one of those old drunk queens at a gay bar who everyone can't stand etc etc...

Because I had changed the channel as soon as Estelle was voted out, I had no idea the crowd booed her. That truly sickens me, and just proves how repulsive and dehumanising a negative mob mentality can be.

They didnt boo her when she got voted out. There was just some booing on Michael and Zoe's eviction night.

Also whilst sad she went, you should have stayed watching there was still extra Estelle footage!

Oh, thankyou! Ah well ...
