Interesting Documentaries

This woman caused a bit of debate online. She used Kickstarter to raise funds to make videos..... She has a lot to say. Most of it I'm not sure about.

I found this one interesting, it's a look inside the Amish community, following a family who are risking excommunication just by doing the documentary:

http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/77662590

It's up for another 3 days on iview, or it's on Youtube.

I watched it the other day. I don't no what it is about the Amish but they always seem to be very happy people.

Do you watch a lot of stuff on ABC iview? Have you watched The Call Centre? It is about a call centre in Wales. Very interesting factual series, the boss Nev is like David Brent/Michael Scott.

Has anyone here seen a doc called American Drug War?

Here is the the plot summary from IMDB

The War on drugs has become the longest and most costly war in American history, the question has become, how much more can the country endure? Inspired by the death of four family members from "legal drugs" Texas filmmaker Kevin Booth sets out to discover why the Drug War has become such a big failure. Three and a half years in the making the film follows gang members, former DEA agents, CIA officers, narcotics officers, judges, politicians, prisoners and celebrities. Most notably the film befriends Freeway Ricky Ross; the man many accuse for starting the Crack epidemic, who after being arrested discovered that his cocaine source had been working for the CIA. AMERICAN DRUG WAR shows how money, power and greed have corrupted not just dope fiends but an entire government. More importantly, it shows what can be done about it. This is not some 'pro-drug' stoner film, but a collection of expert testimonials from the ground troops on the front lines of the drug war, the ones who are fighting it and the ones who are living it.

They guy who made this film Kevin Booth made a sequel this year and I can't find a torrents anywhere and it has not been uploaded to YouTube yet. If anyone here has gotten their hands on a copy of it would you please be able to PM me with a link? Thanks.

No, I haven't seen it, sorry. I'm only just getting back into iview, I haven't been watching anything but BB for the last three months.

Did you watch the one last week about primordial dwarfs? Quite interesting, it should still be on there (actually maybe not!).
There is one on tonight about really big people (tall).

Haha I like the call centre, I want to be a boss like Nev!

I liked The Call Centre so much I download the last 2 episodes ( I could not wait), also they are making another season and doing a Christmas special.

I just watched Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead.

It is about this Aussie guy named Joe who is overweight and has an autoimmune disease. So he decides to go over to American and go on a juice fast for 60 days, 30 of those days he spends in New York and the other 30 days he travels around America talking to people about his experience. During Joe's travels around America he meets Phil an overweight truck driver from Iowa.... I'll leave it there I do not want to spoil the rest of the film for you. I watched it on YouTube, just search for the name of the film. I will say that watching this film was such a positive experience for me!

Thunder Soul (2010)

Absolutely delightful doco.

"Alumni from Houston's storied Kashmere High School Stage Band return home after 35 years to play a tribute concert for their beloved band leader who turned the struggling jazz band into a world-class funk powerhouse in the early 1970s."

This looks good tonight

AMERICA IN PRIME TIME
This star-studded series presents some of the most compelling shows on television today, as well as those of the past, by focusing on key character archetypes that have remained a staple of prime-time television through the generations. This episode reveals how women have transformed from model housewives to complex, and sometimes controversial, characters.

It is a repeat, part of a series, have watched some here and there, heroes one I think.

I watched this last night, about art collectors Herbert and Dorothy Vogel, detailing how they built up their collection on an average income by living frugally:

http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/81949346

There's meant to be a follow-up documentary as well.

Up on iview for another 24 days.

I watched this a while ago. A really interesting doco about irrational sports fandom, media frenzy and commercialism, scapegoating and the human psyche and how a single, innocent moment can change your life forever. I felt so bad for this guy. All he did was catch a ball!
