Update
4 boys out safely, and more quickly than expected
Seems at least 1 boy is quite ill, 2 airlifted, 2 by road ambulance
1 child apparently has asthma

Prayers for all, what an horrendous rescue.....that choke point, and illustrative footage of similar is terrifying

Their story should be quite something, how did they get in there?
According to bits and pieces I have read. Young assistant coach was with them on his own and they all got trapped with the rising water when they went exploring after training. One of the team didn’t go with but got picked up from training by his parents.

@Mooseface.......the bit where they must have squeezed through the wormhole like bits I mean
I understand how the trip happened, and with who etc, all that stuff
But the logistics of it all is going to be some story, fascinating

Thai cave rescue: Reports a fifth boy has emerged after weeks trapped in dark
A MISSION to rescue the remaining nine people trapped in a flooded Thai cave system began midafternoon as the same divers who brought the first four boys to safety go in again.
THERE are unconfirmed reports a fifth boy has emerged from the Thai cave system where a football team and their coach have been incarcerated for more than two weeks.

It comes as increasingly upbeat authorities said on Monday they expected the rescues of the nine remaining people in the Tham Luang cave system, in Chiang Rai province in the country’s north, to be faster than expected.

On Monday evening, news service Reuters reported rescue workers had carried a person on a stretcher away from the cave complex and into a waiting ambulance, according to a witness.

Local reports suggest the boy emerged at 4.23pm local time (7.23pm AEST).

If confirmed, they would be the first person to come out of the cave on the second day of the rescue mission to retrieve the group trapped in the flooded cave since June 23.

An operation to rescue the remaining nine people trapped in a flooded Thai cave system is in full swing as the same divers who brought the first four boys to safety go in again. The Bangkok Post has reported a group of boys has now reached chamber three in the tunnels — around two kilometres from the exit and beyond the most treacherous parts of the system.

At a press conference on Monday afternoon, Narongsak Osottanakorn, former Governor of Chiang Rai province and the head of the joint command centre co-ordinating the operation, said rescue teams re-entered the cave system at 11am local time on Monday (2pm Sydney time).

Despite the many challenges ahead, and the death of one diver days ago, he struck an upbeat note: “I expect in the next hours we will have good news.” He said he hoped the second phase would be “quicker” than the first operation to extract four boys due to lower water levels.

Got to love Elon Musk.....trying to help, donated a mini sub

'It is made of rocket parts & named Wild Boar after kids' soccer team': Elon Musk shares footage of the 'mini-sub' he has donated to help save trapped Thai cave boys
  • Musk tweets photograph of 'child-size submarine' he's leaving in Thailand
  • Billionaire tech mogul thought of ways to help extricate children stuck in cave
  • Eight out of 13 have been rescued after becoming trapped by monsoon floods
  • Ekaphol Chantawong could be left alone inside cave in Tham Luang in Thailand
SpaceX founder Elon Musk tweeted photographs of the 'child-size submarine' that he says he is willing to leave in Thailand to help the boys trapped in a cave - although with two-thirds of them rescued he may be a bit late.

The prototype revealed by the billionaire Musk on Monday shows a large metal tube with a nosecone that is meant to serve as the mini-submarine that would help the members of the youth soccer team to safety.

Officials from Musk's Boring Company and SpaceX traveled to Thailand to offer their assistance, but it appears that the Thai government has managed without them.

This is so sweet.....Thai cartoon

The artists, Aruni Aunhawarakorn and Jantima Manasviyoungkul, the sisters behind Sisidea, said they thought of creating the graphic when they heard the soccer team was missing, but they didn’t put pen to paper until reports of the first successful rescue on Sunday.

The sisters, who live in Bangkok, told Business Insider: “This picture is to show appreciation of the Thai people to the collaborations from many people around the world.

“These 13 footballers are represented as the little wild boars. Tons of kindness has been flowing from many countries and specialist teams, so I am presenting all of them on the animation.”

A TOUCHING cartoon tribute recognising the supreme international rescue effort taking place to rescue 12 Thai boys and their soccer coach from a waterlogged cave has gone viral.

The tribute, posted on the Thai Navy SEAL Facebook page, amid news eight of the boys had now been freed, depicts a series of animals in the flooded cave, each symbolising the nationalities of those involved in the rescue effort.

Among the images is a kangaroo, representing the 19 Australians involved in the rescue.
At the heart of the cartoon are 13 boars, which symbolise the members of the football team — whose team name is Wild Boars — and their coach (a slightly larger boar) who are the focus of the mammoth rescue effort.

The cartoon created by two Thai artists symbolises “taking the boar home”, according to an English translation of the post.

The other animals featured in the cartoon all represent those with a role in the rescue.

The blue-capped elephant is Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osottanakorn, who has been recognisable as the marathon rescue effort unfolded by his blue cap and bright yellow scarf.

Elephants are also the symbol of Chiang Rai — the seal of the province features a white elephant. Legend has it the province’s founder, King Mengrai, did so because his elephant liked the place.

The seals in the cartoon represent, obviously, the Navy SEAL divers involved in the effort, according to the translation.

The frogs are the “all world class” divers in the cave.

The work even features Elon Musk, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO, who is depicted via an Iron Man mask.

Other animals represent the following nationalities and roles in the rescue:

Lion — rescuers from the United Kingdom

Panda — the Chinese members of the team

Crane — rescuers from Japan (the post also acknowledges the unfolding Japanese flood disaster)

Moose — the Swedish team

Eagle — rescuers from USA

Tiger — rescuers from Myanmar

Brown elephant — rescuers from Laos

Dog — rescue teams including the K9 (dog) unit

Swallows — climber from Thailand who have scoured the area above the caves in hope of finding an entrance

Birds — media covering the story at the mouth of the cave

Black crow — those criticising the mission

The dragon depicted in the left of the cartoon is understood to represent the water-pumping team.

Finally, the white horse depicted in the cartoon salutes all those participating in the rescue effort who were “riding the white horse to help us”

Thai navy seals: 'the Wild Boars will be reunited'
“Today the Wild Boar pack will be reunited”, the Thai navy seals confidently predicts in a new post on Facebook. “Hooyah!”

Confirmed: 12 rescued
The 12th boy has been rescued, the Thai navy Seals have confirmed. “Hooyah.”

coach out confirmed

I am so impressed how all that was handled. They seem to have planned the rescue as well as they possibly could have including the on-going follow up medical tests and gradual reunion with the outside world and somehow they managed to include good reporting and avoided the usual media circus that typically goes with something like that.

4 Corners doco is very good, but I hope and expect we will get a more lengthy doco soon.......I would like more about the Thais, all that pumping and scouring for other escapes, they had thousands doing every thing possible, they were diverting streams, mountaneers were climbing and searching for cracks.
The details about how they practised in pools with volunteer kids, and every other fine detail, it is amazing.

And....
