In The News

I guess the point that I'm trying to make is that that energy would be better spent in highlighting real crimes that are regularly committed against humanity by religious followers such as gays that are subjected to torture and sometimes death in the Middle East and other Muslim countries on a fairly frequent basis.

But the typical dismissive attitude that the Left in Western democracies has towards the plight of their fellow LGBT members in those regions saddens me to be honest. It reeks of cowardice and lack of conviction in their beliefs.

Bizarre or not, it's the bloody truth and you know it! When it's the last time that left leaning LGBT community condemend the inhumane treatment of their fellow LGBT members in Muslim nations? That's right, never!

What's with this sudden obsession with the 'left' Con? You're giving me a second coming of Ders vibe. :writing:

As for all this other stuff I don't really get why you started on this whole tangent or what it was that offended/irked you. I think you're trying to make more than one point, and about different things that don't necessarily relate to each other. To what end though I'm not sure. You say your point is that there are better, more important, things to worry about than a few hypocrites. Then you bring in muslims, gay rights, paedophile priests, anti-christian sentiment, and it all gets very confusing. Luckily for you I have some time to waste putting in my two cents worth.

'It's always the uber christians'. Sure I'll it's not always them - they're not the only ones who cheat, not the only hypocrites. I don't think anyone's claiming they are, but there's no denying they're the main ones we hear about. Being a western country our exposure to religion is predominantly to the christian faiths and as such centuries of history has given the followers of said faiths great influence over our lives even if you're loathe to acknowledge it. So it's only natural we're a little more interested in them. What's more when people put themselves forward as an example or mouthpiece we become even more interested, especially in their misdeeds, because we see it as them claiming to be better than us. So we take a perverse sort of pleasure when they fail or are exposed - especially Australians with their tall poppy.

Whether this should concern or worry us is a different point. Sure hypocrisy is not a 'crime', at least in the legal sense, it is however most definitely a moral crime. It's not a grave or serious crime and nowhere near the worst thing you can do but it is noteworthy. So what then is wrong with caring about it? Humans are more than capable of worrying about more than one thing. Maybe even gays in the muslim world. I'm sure Sorcy has concerns about the plights of her LGBT cousins in the middle east but I'm also sure that her concerns are more general in nature. Why? You said or rather reconciled it yourself. Human nature is such that it is very much the norm that despite humanity's great capacity for empathy we concern ourselves first and foremost with that which impacts or influences us personally.

You touched on anti-christian sentiment and that you feel as if christians are picked on unfairly in the western world while other religious groups are ignored or let off. I don't think this focus is necessarily unfair or that it's caused by fear. I think it is understandable. The reality is that christianity if familiar to us and like I said before its' attitudes and actions impact us. We know and understand it more and because of this we feel we have more of a right to question/challenge/talk about it because we feel as if we have a greater chance to change it. Does this mean we should ignore the wrongdoings of others? Of course not.

There are a great many people not only in the western world but throughout the world who are actively trying to improve the lives of others. These people are rich, poor, young, old, and perhaps to your surprise both from the left and right of politics. They're there highlighting, condemning, shouting, ranting and raving about the many injustices of this world. You may not see them on the nightly news but they're there nonetheless working tirelessly to make more people aware, to sow the seeds of change. Change is both gradual and swift, it needs champions as well as supporters. It is no easy thing however to put others before yourself and be a champion. So it's not cowardice or lack of conviction that prevents us from all becoming the champions you seem to want, it is for better or worse human nature.

What this all has to do with Ashley Madison though I have no idea.

:D

Haha thanks for the take down!
Truth be told I try to stay out of Muslim stuff, I don't know enough about it so I let you everyone else battle it out.
But yeah not sure con was being deliberately anti gay (which has form with) or any muslim.

And therein lies the real reason why this garners so much undeserved (IMO) attention, good old fashion schadenfreude. :p

But isn't this like the 10000th hypocritical Christian who's being caught not practicing what he preaches since who knows when? :hilarious:

These so-called uber christians (eye of the beholder, some would call them devout) don't just condemn homosexuality, they're vocal about all sort of peccadilloes especially those of a sexual nature.

But you won't see me giving some strangers opinion on what moral standards I should uphold much thought, let alone let it emotionally get to me.

I guess I just find it bizarre why people (particularly atheist/secular left leaning ones) concede so much prime mental real estate to individuals they don't respect.

Constantly 'exposing' these hypocrites ain't gonna achieve much of anything. The belief that homosexuality is a sin is hardwired into Christianity and irrespective of how many hypocrites among them are exposed it will never make one iota of difference to the vast number of followers of that faith.

Christians are well aware that humans are flawed and won't be dissuaded from their convictions by any means when one of their leaders is discovered living contrary to those values. And the same applies for other religions that hold the same view about human sexuality.

You'd have to hijack/infiltrate the religion at the top levels and somehow reverse the accepted convention of homosexuality as a sin to ever make any significant grounds on that. And what are the odds of that ever happening?

I just think it's rather pointless tbh. But if it makes people out there who are infuriated/hurt by christian 'homophobia' or whatever feel some sense of schadenfreude for a few minutes than knock yourselves out I suppose. :angelic:

Yeah that was a general comment about the Left (who are very vocal supporters of the LGBT ) that can't help itself whenever there's an opportunity to ridicule Christians but won't even say so much as a word in anger against a religion that actually causes death and physical harm to members of their community across the world . Hypocrisy at it's finest.

It wasn't meant to be a specific criticism of the LGBT community, apologies for it coming across that way.

Ok so this "superior" phone is marked by 5 things. I assume these 5 things are pretty amazing. Let's take a look...

1. You can sign documents.

Uhh... I have never needed to sign a document on my iPhone! There are apps on the iPhone that allow you to annotate

2. You can charge wirelessly.

Thank goodness! That half a second it take me to plug my iPhone in before I go to bed has taken such a toll on me!

3. You can pay with it

Apple Pay will be here soon enough, in the mean time -- I use my debit card. I'm ok with that, I've been using it for 15 years.

4. Stream live straight to YouTube.

@Trala might like this instead of her Webcam, but there are plenty of apps to live stream on an iPhone. Personally, I've never, or even ever wanted to!

5. Photographers will love it.

Well damn, this one might actually have me .. I love taking great photos with my phone... Wait a minute...
The snapper on the Galaxy Note 5 is brilliant, and on par with the iPhone 6 Plus

Oh never mind, it's on par.

If it's not an iPhone, it's not an iPhone! :sneaky:

I love Rita Panahi. :inlove:

She went in hard at what I was hinting at in this thread but from a feminist angle.

ISLAM and women’s rights are a problematic mix at the best of times, let alone in the current climate of fear and savagery, with fundamentalists causing mayhem in several corners of the world.

Rape, enslavement, murder and wholesale subjugation of women in the name of Islam is taking place in countries such as Syria, Iraq, Nigeria and Afghanistan.

And yet empowered Western women refuse to take a stand against the brutal misogyny seen in Islamic countries, as well as abhorrent practices tolerated much closer to home in the name of cultural diversity.

Go @bleachy_dude! You go!

My hubby swapped for the new Samsung and the first month consisted of bragging about all this cool stuff he could do. A month later he has admitted he doesn't really use them all that much and admits he would go back to iPhone.

Hahah.

I'm happy for people who are happy with androids. It's all a matter of personal preference. I enjoy joking around, but really don't understand when there is real anger or hatred over the 'opposing' camp.

The iOS system works for me. Android works for others :)

I admit that I was sucked in very young with about the second or third generation iPod and have been "in" the iOS system ever since, so it's familiar and comfortable for me.

Why it matters to absolutely anyone else what phone I choose to buy boggles the brain!

I'm a business owner, I understand numbers and marketing.
Apple is a Toyota sold at an Audi price.

Don't worry Apple isn't the only one who rips people off, Lorna Jane is another and also Pieface.

I'm not denying that we pay a premium for 'apple tax'.

What I'm saying though, is that it's worth it for me. Supply and demand. I'm willing to pay the price they set as I love the software and the hardware.

Also, I don't really keep up with Samsung much, but isn't the S6 similarly priced to the IPhone 6?

Haha apple tax good term!
They have good software and hardware last for ages and generally bug free but they're too basic for me.
They might humble themselves though, the numbers for the watch are pretty sad.

I dunno about Samsung, it just seems like they have more features and a less structured layout.
Really the phone market is wide open, its not a case of apple vs Samsung anymore.

The watch numbers I'm sure are disappointing. But for a 600 billion dollar company, they can afford to take some hits like this. I don't think their iPhone / iPad / Mac sales are decreasing.

Their iPads are down, their shares are lower than usual.
IPhone is where apple makes its money but from what I've read Samsung is beating them.
But you're right they can take hits, I think they did the watch for Jobs but if the price was less those watches would have sold better imo.
