AN ASPIRING singer has died during auditions for The X Factor at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The 33-year-old unidentified man, who was said to be a New Zealander, was rehearsing his song alone in a quiet alcove when he collapsed suddenly on Friday afternoon.

He was treated by medical personnel at the scene before being transferred by ambulance to nearby St Vincent's Hospital, where he died a short time later from a suspected heart issue.

Witnesses have told investigating police the man "didn't look very well" moments before he fell to the ground. It's believed preliminary inquiries suggest nothing suspicious.

Part of the investigation will include canvassing the man's family and friends to find out if he had a pre-existing heart condition.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted by the coroner later this week.

Police have confirmed the New Zealand national has been formally identified by a relative living in Sydney, but say his immediate family were not based in Australia.

Steven Murphy, a spokesman for FremantleMedia, the production company behind The X Factor, described the incident as tragic.

"He collapsed late yesterday (Friday) and was treated by medics on site before being transferred by ambulance to St Vincent's Hospital," he told The Sunday Telegraph.

The X Factor host Luke Jacobz and judges Mel B, Ronan Keating, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Guy Sebastian, who are yet to be officially confirmed as returning to the show, were not at the auditions.

On the day of the incident, auditioning singers performed only for the show's producers before being shortlisted for the filmed audition rounds in front of judges.

It's expected this year's judging panel may be different to the previous two years, with talk suggesting Mel B and Guy Sebastian may decide against reprising their roles.

Mel B is rumoured to be in the running for a spot on the UK version of the show. Bassingthwaighte, meanwhile, is pregnant with her second child that's due in May.

The show is a ratings juggernaut, with last year's series, won by Sebastian's contestant Samantha Jade, attracting millions of followers.

Because we all want to see a cavity search video  (not)

I don't want to even begin to imagine what some of the misogynistic morons at Whirlpool where saying.

No one commented on it. The topic was listed for barely 5 minutes before it got deleted.

I don't want to see the video but was surprised it was up at all.....

And yes one can only imagine the comments it might have generated had people started discussing the story.

The moderators at Whirlpool knew there was only one way a thread like that could go.

So, what does everyone in here think about the ALP's plans to bind everyone in Oz to new utterly tyrannical anti-freedom of speech laws that make it a crime to hurt the feelings of anyone, while exempting the ALP from having to abide by the same law ?

The Gillard government proposes to exempt all its own activities authorised under commonwealth law from the application of its new law.

lol :) All I can say is typical politics. I would much rather bury my head in the sand and just live my life than get involved in all their bullshit. The one thing I regret about becoming an Australian citizen last year is that now I have to vote for some awful bastard.

I probably won't though. They are all the same and I really don't like the concept of compulsory voting.

the wha'..? the huh...?

Because WP is full of twats. If you go to ITN there's a thread titled "upskirting" which hasn't been locked or deleted yet and it's full of sexism
What's ITN?
Why does anyone even want to discuss up skirting in detail. It's wrong, it's against the law, end of. Seems almost depraved that guys are so keen to discuss it so much.

“I’ve had enough. Australian women have had enough. When I see sexism and misogyny I’m going to call them for what they are.”

Julia Gillard, 10 Oct 2012

... but the digital examination is the only true way to get a correct reading on your prostate, so make sure you go and do that, and perhaps look for a small, Asian, female doctor is probably the best way

Tim Mathieson (Miss Gillard's defacto), 29 Jan 2013

Judging by Miss Gillard's reaction to the sizism, racism, sexism, and homophobia exampled by her defacto, I guess what she means by "call them for what they are", is to simply smile broadly, yes ?

The ALP are trying to bring in new laws to restrict what everyone OTHER than the ALP can say.

It would seem that Tim already thinks the law is a done deal !

Poor LSXPFDTNXZPC must hate being blamed for the dribble that comes out of her partners mouth and from his keyboard warrior sessions.

These new laws are pushed by Nicola Roxon too the worst AG we've ever had. But it's not her idea it's Conroys idea....

Aww, poor baby, Mummy was poisoned.

A total of ten endangered pygmy elephants found dead in a forest in the Malaysian state of Sabah, on Borneo, are thought to have been poisoned. The cause of death appears to be poisoning, but it is not yet known whether the elephants were the target of a malicious attack. Wildlife officials rescued one three-month-old elephant calf (main picture) found trying to rouse its dead mother in the Gunung Rara Forest Reserve.

And wow, look at this

Garrett McNamara is thought to have beaten his own world record for the biggest wave ever ridden in Nazare. The U.S. born surfer has held the record since catching a 78ft tall break at the same spot in 2011. On Monday bystanders looked on in awe as he successfully navigated a wall of water thought to measure around 100ft.

Freaky!

The elephant photo is heartbreaking. Idiots to the side of me took to all of their trees with a chainsaw while I was at work yesterday, by time I got home there were several massive branches in my yard with nests and or baby birds dead or injured it was like a battlefield. I knocked on their door and asked them to come around and sort it. (they did)

The wave photo is amazing/terrifying.

Poor baby.

And just been reading about pygmy elephants - just 5 ft! That's almost pet size. Found in Indian and Malayasian forests.
