In The News

I understand what you mean. I've noticed that not everyone considers justice to mean the same thing. It is quite often considered to include the punishment that results from breaking rules - some dictionaries define it that way, as does Wikipedia. Others define it more narrowly in the way that you and Eliza are used to.

Regardless, even if I had used the term incorrectly, the principle remains the same. The administration of justice in this country and the punishments given by our justice system should not be outsourced.

I not only understand what you mean, I agree with you.

The Cool Hand Luke bit I get, the rest I don't :D

My point is this, Eliza, the concept of justice gives certain roles moral legitimacy. I wouldn't be in any hurry not to regard work done in prisons as anything else but part of the justice system. Given such roles are involved, however indirectly, in the deprivation of liberty, unless they be part of such a system, then what moral right have people involved in such work? Obviously there is a legal right, but ones' conscience, surely, can only be appeased by the idea that justice transforms a wrong - depriving people of liberty - into a right or something correctional. "Calling it work, doesn't make it right" - there should be something more, given the heinousness of locking people away.

The question is often asked of lawyers, "how can you defend someone who is guilty?" The answer to that question is to think of roles within a system. A lawyer is not a judge. He has a role in a justice system which is often adversarial. The morality of his work is protected to some degree by the demands of that system - he ought to be doing the best job possible in his role - fearlessly. The prosecutor likewise has his/her role etc. All take moral shelter ultimately under this idea of a justice system.

I understand what you are saying however, my original statement about justice was in response to a comment by Derspatz

Eh ?

Surely it is the courts that dispense justice whereas prisons merely administer punishment and attempted rehabilitation ... along with obviously being somewhere to put people who have abused and forfeited any right to remain in the "normal" community/society ?!

In short, it isn't justice being outsourced.

I was agreeing with him (for a change) I understand your opinion is different.

I not only understand what you mean, I agree with you.

Of course LOL :)

Just came on here from TV..... Watching channel 10 news. Shocked... But not surprised.

3 girls from Mitcham High were suspended for posting a video online where they offered to trade money for blowjobs....... Now it's revealed it was a prank but too late .......WTF is wrong with people?

They are young and stupid Mud, the four of them are immature year 9 girls aged about 13/14 years old. I am just thankful the internet wasn't around when I was that age.

I hope the school use it as an opportunity to chat to the rest of the school community about the consequences of internet stupidity. I've seen the video and it is clearly meant to be a joke. I feel sorry for the girls, it's going to be tough returning going back to school, I hope they get some support.

If comedians from the ABC did this, perhaps Kath and Kim, you'd be laughing your arses off. Welcome to the age of youtube, where anyone can be a movie star, stunt man, singer, poet, provocateur, satirist, comedian etc. They always could be, but now the middle men have been cut out. Time some people acquired a sense of humour and woke up to what's going on around them. Don't know why the girls have been suspended from school; don't know why the police became involved. Humour isn't confined to people broadcasted on TV or over 16.

The police became involved because someone saw alarm bells and now is "will someone protect the kids"

I have not seen the video. Youtube has pulled it off due to complaints.

I agree with Eliza it was a stupid thing to have done and could bite them on the ass in years to come ...

The video from what I hear is a sendup of the KONY scam video that those guys did to bilk millions out of people.

Usually one hears alarm bells, seeing them doesn't quite have the same effect.

How is suspending the girls from school going to protect them - they might go to a red light district and start selling their jokes?

If it's a sendup of the Kony scam, the girls deserve a medal. Here ya go girls, stick this on your proud chests.

OH seems youtube have been slack........Video is still there. And look at the comments it's attracted

Sort of related - on Song Marry etc the majority of girls say they want to be 'famous and their icons are Jordan and Jodie Marsh, now that is the UK but it still points to the thought processes of young girls these days. As eliza said, thank goodness we didn't have to deal with what they do nowadays.

Made my ribs sore laughing - honestly.

Do you know you can get gob headbands to hold your hair back while giving gobs?

Charging guys by minute increments - they might regret that though, wreaks of inexperience.

Can't hold these girls responsible for the comments, Mud.

It's very funny. Well done you three - top of the drama class for sure.

I'd be more concerned about this channel 7 news report. It's a complete misrepresentation of the video, as well as the girls' character. Only an idiot would mistake the video as serious. The reporter isn't an idiot, he's just a sleazebag peddling lies, like most of what is on channel 7.

Where South Australians are proof that Victorians can walk and Victorians are proof that Tasmanians can swim, the answer to your question is somewhat obvious.

Oh hang on, I'm talking to a South Australian here so I guess a better way to explain the mystery of the artist re: "WTF is wrong with people" is with a TISM youtube.

These girls are going to be "legends" among their peers. Do you understand or remember anything about adolescence?

Sorry I didn't realise you were once an adolescent girl. :D

Regardless of the status you think they may have on their return to school, they will still need support to get stuck back into their schooling.

It is not something I would like to have my 15 minutes of fame for!

Totally with you on the standard of 7's reporting of late though.
