House Rules

I swear they choose people who have zero design concept - or surely this isn't the general public??

I could kick all of their asses with a smaller budget and no google. Just sayin' lol

I was looking at pictures of the houses from last year and they are a lot better than what has been produced so far on this season. I wonder why? Perhaps the producers wanted to rooms to be more out there? Who know...
I am actually liking this season, just because these people bar a selected few are pretty clueless and that makes some pretty funny TV.

I feel sorry for Brooke. With 7 kids (and are they all living in 2 bedrooms?) l think a long time ago she moved into frazzled mum mode barking out orders, and now she has forgotten how to be a regular person. And while she is definitely setting a bad example for her kids by lacking generosity of spirit, l'll bet she does have nicer aspects which we don't see because the producers only want her to be a villain.

Am loving Bomber and Mel, and Adam and Lisa. They're fun.

I really like House Rules.

If that Wallpaper and Mirrors comes to bite those that wrote it, well so be it.

So you got to be careful on what you put out for in this world. LOL
I hope it is not a huge ugly place that they come home to.
I like the use of wallpaper, as a feature on the drawers etc
Coming home to WOW in every room is not pleasant.

I like Mel and Bomber - they add a touch of humour, as well as down to earth factor.
Seems like Brooke is pulling her head in, and her man is onto it - HAHAHAHAHAHA

Great show

Would Love to see .......................

MY PUB RULES

It's probably my favourite reality show around at the moment. It would be nice if we were told what the budgets were - Brooke and Grant's must have been tight considering they bought a cupboard, bed, lamp and some curtains.

Agree about Mel and Bomber - they seem to be the only couple really approaching it as a pair rather than bloke stays at home while wife goes shopping. Really though they all bring something to the show (though Brooke and Grant are this years Jane and Plinio) - though at the moment Maddie and Lloyd are surely the ones to beat. If they win again though hope they don't get to decide everyones rooms once again.

Post from mediaspy forums

The latest issue of OK magazine has interviews with EP Maxine Gray and last year's winning couple Carly and Leighton about some unknown facts from the show.

*The Home Base is in Sydney according to Gray (last year it was in Melbourne). I presume it means Seven's Redfern studios where H&A and MKR are filmed.

*Teams return to Home Base generally the day after the renovation has been completed for judging and scoring, before having 2-3 days off.

*Four of the five teams involved in the renovation stay in the same hotel but they can't socialise, otherwise they may not get to choose what items they want to keep during the renovation.

*Teams cannot return to their own houses until they are eliminated.

*Budget varies for each house (and zone) so teams cannot compare their spending.

*The team whose house will be renovated is sent to a getaway (chosen by the producers) usually 1.5 hours from the city the house is located.

Interesting stuff @bleachy_dude
I wonder why the teams are not allowed to socialise with each other? I know if I were on the show I would be telling the other teams what I want done to my house in very specific terms, not those vague house rules that I am sure the producers had a hand in making up..... I think I just answered my own question.

If they socialised too much, buddy up, too much strategy and alliance forming would happen.

Right now they need to re-jig the format to stop the stupid wallpaper fiascos.

Easy, the winning team for the previous week = project manager, they have final decisions on floor plans and mixes of decor.

They have a style advisor there, she should have been nipping those suggestions in the bud so there was a cohesive look. Isn't she the 'expert'? If she's not doing that why the heck is she there?

Wow.. A lot of these rooms are a total sh!tfight. Haha.

At least Bomber and Mel did a 'nice' wow... Rather than a OMFGWTF wow like many of the others.

That bedroom is HIDEOUS! Also what a waste of a bathroom. My favourite would be the living room.

I'm sure the producers deliberately divide the zones so that competing teams will be sharing one open plan area as happened here. It was unfortunate (or for the producers, fortunate) that one of the rules was for wallpaper in this reno so they could cash in on clashing patterns and design.

So glad Mel and Bomber produced a great Kitchen and the Entry made a great statement :) Hope their reward is a good one :)
I wonder how much time, the home owner have to judge.
Lounge looked great. Study - bit bland.
Bedroom - Over the Top LOL - Ensuite - Tiles are AWESOME and well, maybe a curtain can help with the throne issue LOL
Laundry - It is behind a door and who cares if it functional LOL - Spare Bedroom - Not My Style LOL
Bathroom - uggg that 'lets hide the dunny' was the worst! Tiles? mmmm Think you have to be there ..... Deck? Not big enough. Dining Room, I could just imagine that those placed towards that bottle top wallpaper they would be just being looking at that instead of the people opposite.

Wonder how the oldies will go in the tent LOL - I am sure it will make for amusing TV.

I really like the Vic Couple, in fact they are all pretty cool.

I just liked the way Adam laughed in every room - I think he was hiding a lot of his true feeling.

The split zones did the house no favours - really should have been Lounge/Deck, Dining/Kitchen, Bathroom/Study, Laundry/Bedroom/Entry and Master Suite. These shows don't do themselves any favours when they lose a bit of common sense in order to try and create more tension - watching people argue over 20-30mm isn't great TV.

Bomber and Mel easily the best room of the week, but also thought they played it rather safe compared especially to the kitchens from last year. Candy and Ryan's lounge was really nice too but they really need to step it up - they're a bit too comfortable in the middle of the pack at the moment. I quite liked what Maddie and Lloyd were trying to do though would be paranoid about the ceiling going up in flames. The ensuite was a nice idea but the toilet position made it a fail for me - I don't think they really had the room to pull off the design they were going for.

Carole and Russell's zone was a mess - but that was thanks to producers as much as them. I think with a wallpaper complementing the one in the lounge the dining room would have looked far better. Considering the work that went into building the deck the space it provided hardly made it seem worth it. The bathroom design was just compromised by that separate toilet - if that had been a shower and the toilet over where the shower was would be a much better layout.

Brooke and Grant had it a bit tough really this week - nothing particularly stood out but with a cupboard laundry and second bedroom it probably never was going too. As annoying as they are though really looking forward to seeing their house renovated - and we might have a reno which puts function over design for once.

P.S. Can't believe we're half way through the renos already.

I half presume the Tassies will score everyone on the lower end of the scale for strategy sake.

Not a big fan of Brooke an Grant, but I can't wait to see what the teams come up with this week, and I'm sure they will all make me a blubbering fool when I see the end product.

Only half presume. Although in the end the scores didn't count for much last year it would be fairer if they just ranked the zones from 1-5, then there can be no tactical scoring.

The split zones annoying again this week though I can understand the logic of giving all teams part of the extension. Some zones seem massive compared to others though - Adam and Lisa seem to have the smallest bedroom and a laundry while others have 3-4 spaces to think about. Really looking forward to this one and it's quite nice the kids are at the heart of it. I think though for 7 kids I'd have got an extra bathroom in there - only seems to be one and a shower room from what I can see.

Also would actually be interesting to see a full behind the scenes episode which details how they get these done in 7 days. Must be massive of pre-production and consultation with local planning / building control etc. to allow it to even happen (it's the reason I think a UK version is unlikely - takes you 7 months to get permission to put a nail in a wall!). Also wonder if it's 7 consecutive days or whether they have a day off site each week.

There's a full bathroom, a shower room, and a second toilet (oppposite the shower room). But they probably should have got two full bathrooms and an ensuite.

Behind the scenes would be very interesting. As for whether they get a "day off", how would you stop them going shopping for their rooms etc, unless you kept them bailed up at the hotel? Even if they did, it would be a good chance to take stock and plan out the other part of your "week".
