I love actual physical books. My Doctor Who collection is all physical, and in as pristine condition as possible, including making sure I don't crease the spine or get fingerprints on the covers.
They are the only ones I collect though, other "normal" novels, autobiographies and factual books I'm still careful with but not obsessive, and I'm happy to pass them on to someone afterwards.

Crack the spine, dog ear the page, spill a drop of coffee. Wear it in. Get absorbed in the story. To me that's how I love a good book. Otherwise to me it's a bit like putting a plastic cover over your couch lol. :p
The worry I have is when you get food or worse, in library books. Years ago, without a word of a lie, when I opened a patient's history, there was a PUBIC hair in it. I continue to this day hope that it was a chest hair. Freaks me out every time the memory comes up.

Lol ewww. I'd be careful to return a library book the way I found it. I haven't visited a library in years though.
And pubic hairs would be nowhere near the pages lol.

How would you get a pubic hair in a book? I know people say they LOVED a book but I didn't think anyone took it that literally.
This was a patient's history in hospital. A mystery really as to how it got there. The thing with secondhand and library books is that we have no idea how much bacteria etc is on them. The same can be said for all sorts of things though.

Far Out! What a day I have had!

My Neighbours (who is my boss) dogs escaped and went on a 'little' adventure. 2 Blue Heelers!
Living in the country where there is a LOT of Livestock around, local farmers do not take to kindly to roaming Dogs!

Anyway, we were alerted early afternoon and we walked and drove around town for hours. No sign :(

So I ended up posting a message on the local community FB page, as a last ditch effort, thinking that there would be no response - but someone posted 1 hr later, that saw someone trying to get a dog out of a paddock, about 3klms down the Highway. So I got kicked into doogie save survivor mode, grabbed my Boss (like you do) and made him drive to the last know sighting.

The Ranger was there, (who I called earlier) the original Sighter (a lovely animal loving woman) and the property owner - I got out of the car and ran to the fence and yelled "MAX" and he came running to me like a fat 12 year old heeler would do (took a while, but he was coming to me!) They had been trying to catch and coax him for like, 1.5 hrs! He was by himself. His younger mate was not to be seen, nor responded to calls, by myself or the owner (bossman). I must add here, my bossman, does not speak English very well.

Max was so disorientated and was lying in an irrigation channel, when he was first sighted ....... I am so glad for that lovely lady cared enough to pull over and try and rescue Max and also the beauty of Social Media, even though my post was a last ditch effort, so to speak.

Still missing one puppy - he is really a naughty pup - he lead his mate on an adventure that could have been fatal for both, but at least we found Old Max .... I am praying young Mil is found very soon, 'cause there are some really cruel people out there that can find a dog and use it for fighting etc

Please Pray for Mil to be found safe and well and ready to have the wrath of Deb upon him, when he returns safely xxx

Excellent that Max is safe. Hopefully Mil will be found soon.

Geez I'm OCD when it comes to my books. They're kept in mint condition. I'd never ever dog-ear them or write in them. The horror. How hard is it to just remember the page number people!? I'm so particular in fact that I used swap my trade formats for b-formats when they'd come out because I couldn't stand my bookshelves having all these different sized books.

These days I mainly use my Kobo eReader but still can't seem to pass a bookstore without buying something.
Uggh the dreaded book collector!

I swear my bestie has every book she has ever read, she basically lives in a mausoleum of books, and to make matters worse, she also collects cd box sets of her favourite tv shows. It is a clutter pit of horror.

The only books I keep are nursing text books, and they stay in my study. Back when I used to buy books, once I read them, I couldn't get rid of them quick enough. I was a huge fan of the library back then.

I only go into a book store now to read blurbs and get book title ideas for my kindle downloads.

Sending a prayer to the mysterious higher power that restores dogs to their proper locations...

WOW WOW WOW

If it was not your prayer, something awesome might have not just happened 1 hr ago.

Bossman rings at 2am - someone is breaking in!!!

Bolt next door (with a sarong on) not pretty, but it was like fire drill, or something like that lol

He heard very large bangs, and he thought it was someone breaking in through his gates - we came and looked and searched and looked and in the end we found a very distressed Mil under his car!!!!!!

He was scared of his owner, because he knew he was in the shit for going off on an adventure ... and would only come out to me. I just spent 3/4 of a hour reassuring that dog it was OK ........ he was home and all is ok :(

I wish I had owned dogs earier in life, as I now have a huge understanding and well, we relate

I might be a bitch .........

I used to be like that with my books. Well not swapping books for sizes. But I never dog eared or wrote on my books and did my best to avoid creasing the spine. I'm glad all thats behind me now.
I am so glad you made it out the other side. Given your anti dog ear/non spine creasing attitude, the swapping for size madness was only going to be matter of time.
