Was it the first or are we part way through season 7?

It's so disjointed with the short seasons, and that episode didn't really enthuse me.

Hated the new TARDIS interior. What the hell is that crap at the top spinning around?

I like a minimalist console room, I think the set team gets too carried away usually.
But first impression of this one is that it is a bit too minimalist. Kinda empty.
And the spinning top is just weird. And the room is too dark.

I don't know why they bother to keep changing it.
Recent Doctor's don't seem like the home decorating types.

Here's an idea I pinched off another forum. Fits with the whole Library planet ..

Maybe Clara is a "digital" person and the world the Doctor is in is still inside the Library computer. Clara inserts herself to get him out, in that the world Doctor Who is in right now is the digital one (or somehow phony) and Clara's real — and inserting herself into that world trying to get him out? (But like with the Library the "downloaded" people don't always know that's what they are.)

The baddy was a living sun. How original
Not much happens

Meh to the director's (et al) ever continuing rage against our Creator.

Meh to virtually all the aliens being bipedal.

Still, good have a new season to alternate with Game of Thrones season 3, I reckon.

It felt like a tribute to the Star Wars cantina scenes, the aliens all had that stylised look to them.

I quite liked it, nothing amazing but it was as watchable as ever.

Yeah, I gotta agree with that and most of the costuming etc wasn't half bad. Liked the "bucket of stars" sparkly faced aliens as well as the one with strange looking re-breather/hooker/filters attached to its face. Talk about taking CO2 capture (and avoidance of the CO2 tax) to ridiculous degrees ! :D :D

I merely found it annoying that near all the aliens were two arms, two legs, head/eyes on top of body, and of average human height and build.

That strains the land of suspension of disbelief for me, especially when I'm used to reading about / imagining / seeing far more variety of species and kinds, etc, down Alice's rabbit hole with no tardis required.

Anyhoo, I also noticed that they slipped in yet another Star Wars sound effect or two (if memory serves me correctly, it happened at least a couple of times last season).

This time it was towards the end when the Dr is fiddling around in the Tardis and talking back out towards the door. An annoyed R2D2 fart type sound seemed to have been used.

... or maybe that was just me. :D

Episode is up on iView so, if I get the time later, I'll scan through and located the minute:second my studio ears reckon they heard it.

Oh that was fucking awesome.

2 brains and 3 hearts. Amazing. And they really do have problem solving skills. Friend has to put stuff on their fishtank lid because theirs got out ...

Forgot to watch last week - just caught up in time for next ep.

Wow - spectacular.
Although I agree with everyone's criticisms:
Somewhat derivative.
The sonic screwdriver is not a cure-all.
Aliens were detailed but unimaginative.
And the plot was a bit thin.

BUT ...
Visually spectacular.
Musically emotive.
Played well on the DW theme that us ordinary humans are powerful.
Used the young girl well - considering it is essentially a kid's show.
And I really like Clara, and her interaction with this DW - she might end up being my favourite New Who companion, and possibly fav companion ever. Here's hoping!

On a tangent: Mud Cake, unless your octopus-owning friends have an awesome tank setup, you should try to convince them to donate their octopus to a marine park. I have no idea, but it doesn't sound ideal to confine seemingly smart creatures to a domestic fish tank.
