Doctor Who

Forgot to watch last week - just caught up in time for next ep.

Wow - spectacular.
Although I agree with everyone's criticisms:
Somewhat derivative.
The sonic screwdriver is not a cure-all.
Aliens were detailed but unimaginative.
And the plot was a bit thin.

BUT ...
Visually spectacular.
Musically emotive.
Played well on the DW theme that us ordinary humans are powerful.
Used the young girl well - considering it is essentially a kid's show.
And I really like Clara, and her interaction with this DW - she might end up being my favourite New Who companion, and possibly fav companion ever. Here's hoping!

On a tangent: Mud Cake, unless your octopus-owning friends have an awesome tank setup, you should try to convince them to donate their octopus to a marine park. I have no idea, but it doesn't sound ideal to confine seemingly smart creatures to a domestic fish tank.

Yeah I know...... But it's their pet I'm not going to intrude on what they do.

^I just set the tape and reminded my mini-whovians to make sure they've had their showers by 7.30.

I save it for later, this early in the evening I just watch something that doesn't demand my full attention, then I save the best for last.

...there are many things that I love in this world... Dr Who and the art of MC Escher are but two of those things... I decided to mix the two together to create Dr Whoescherism... it was a labour of love that I thoroughly enjoyed doing... it is based on the original drawing done by the master himself... MC Escher...

...I did it in January but my computer has been playing up and I couldn't post it before but my computer has been overhauled and is all good again... here is Eschers original image...

Escher-Big.jpg

...on the 'Deviant Art' website an artist by the name of ICPJuggalo1988 created this great piece of artwork...

...his artwork can be found on this link below...

...I put together (I think) 50 bits and pieces of Dr Who within this artwork and 4 references to MC Escher to make up the final image... I even managed to put Clara into it too... (I'm going to get it blown up into a small poster size to put in my computer room)... here it is...

...here is a Hi Res version to look at it even closer... just click on the link to take you to the image and then click on the image itself to see it enlarged into a Hi Res image...

...I hope that you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed doing it... I'm actually watching Dr Who as I'm posting this... long live The Doctor!... cheers.

Hey Sticky. The first picture that you posted, which was based on the work of MC Escher. Well did you know that the original piece was the inspiration for the episode Castrovalva with Peter Davison?

Hey is that River song in brown dress just under the TARDIS to the left holding a gun?

...wow!... I didn't know that Mud... thanks for telling me... yes that is River Song... if you want to check it out in closer detail just click that last link and then click the image itself... you will see her easier... cheers.

Mr Stickyfingers, that is awesome. I especially like the framed pics of past docs etc on the walls.
And I am assuming that the sunflowers are a nod to the Van Gogh episode. Nice work.
And I LOVED K9 as a kid. And as an adult, if I'm honest.
But who is hiding above David Tennant on the balcony with Capt Jack?
And who is in the circular frame next to Amy?
Damn I need a larger resolution.

Castrovala was one of my favourite DW story lines. This pic fits crazy well with that.

It looks like River. From Let's kill Hitler? and did she wear the same outfit in Demon's Run? Not sure, but it is at least similar.

Re tonights ep:
I love it when they play with history.
BUT it was another one of those eps that resolve themselves without much intervention.
Ok, they pushed the compassion factor, but apart from that, the Doc and Clara didn't really do much.

Loved it anyways!!

Castrovalva is one of my favourite stories too. Well done on the artwork, very creative.

Loved tonight's episode.
Some important additions to Who history -
First time we've seen inside an Ice Warrior shell suit (a great tribute to the NA novels where such a thing was described. Mark Gatiss who wrote this episode also contributed to that range).
It was also reminiscent of the Davison story Warriors Of The Deep, (also featuring green monsters against human power blocs in an underwater seabase), but much, MUCH better.
And Duran Duran is now canonical in DW.

...thanks nutmeg... it was fun to do... if you want to check it out in closer detail just click that last link and then click the image itself... you will see it a lot larger... ...

...the person just above David Tennant and Cpt Jack is the current Master played by John Simm... (I hope that he comes back to Dr Who in some future episodes... he was great)... the person in the circular frame next to Amy is the artist MC Escher who did the original drawing that this is based on... I put him there next to some of his other artworks as a non-Dr Who tribute type of thing...

...the sunflowers were already in the image but fit in snugly with the whole thing... (great find there nutmeg)... I put the past Dr Who's into the frames because the image would've been a lot more cluttered with so many people otherwise... (if you notice just above River Songs head I also included Elisabeth Sladen aka Sarah Jane Smith as a tribute to her)

Castrovala was one of my favourite DW story lines. This pic fits crazy well with that.

...I never actually realised the connection with Castrolava until Mudcake told me...

...yeah I think it is her from 'Let's kill Hitler' I'm sure of it... I'll have to check that out methinks...

...K9 will probably never be seen again on Dr Who with the passing of Elisabeth Sladen but at least they revived him within the new series a few seasons back...

...I'm glad that you liked it... cheers.

...thanks Meglos... I liked last nights episode too... particularly in seeing David Warner as Professor Grisenko... he's one of my favourite actors as of past... one question... do you think that the Ice Warrior (when he took his helmet off) was done with computer graphics instead of the usual latex masks?... or is it just me?...

...it just seemed to me to be a deviation from their normal practice of donning the main actors in latex... I thought that it may have been done that way because the creatures face was pretty complex and they may have thought it'd be a lot easier to do it on the computer... by the way the opening sequence of flying over the icebrgs etc and then diving to below the surface was great special effects I thought... cheers.

...apparently there is an up and coming episode called 'Journey to the centre of the Tardis'... now that sounds really interesting... **spoiler** Clara apparently gets lost in the depths of the Tardis... **end of spoiler**... (highlight to read)... I can't wait for it... cheers.

Loved last night's episode.. Clara just gets cuter and cuter.

And YES let us have more of the professor please.

OMG OMG OMG I LOVE TIME TUNNEL...

I'm pinching this for my Time Tunnel facebook site

...glad you liked it Mud... you're more than welcome to use it... what's the link?... it sounds good... I always loved the 'Time Tunnel' and the 'Land of the Giants' when I was a lot younger lol!... cheers.
