Doctor Who

I saw a bit of the Foxtel episodes today too, particularly the rousing of the Doctor's friends in "A Good Man Goes To War" and the amazing "Wedding Of River Song" events.

One tiny criticism of the new episode - the kiss. Must every female the Doctor ever meets have a crush on him? I loved the Catherine Tate "mates" relationship.

...totally agree upon that one Meglos... I'm glad somebody else thinks the same as I do... in regards to my criticism of the new Tardis interior... here are a few shots of it...

...it looks to me so 1950's low budget type of interior...

...perhaps I'm just being too critical... my honest opinion?... I think that Steve Moffatt is trying to distance the current Dr Who series as far away from Russel T Davis's original concept for the revived Dr Who as far as he can take it... he has systematically changed every aspect of the Tardis from it's original concept as envisioned since Christopher Eccleston became the new Dr Who... I don't think that he likes living in the shadow of Russell T Davis... as I say... just my opinion... cheers.

Absolutely awesome episode. Best Christmas special since the first one, when Tennant's Doctor was introduced. The writing was top-notch, and the acting by the two leads was perfect. Great chemistry between them. And I liked the whole mystery about Clara aswell. Good ending to lead into the next series.

Loved the opening titles and LOVED the new theme song, both of which I think drew inspiration from all the previous ones as part of a 50th anniversary thing (plus the Doctor's face!!).

And yeah I was a bit let down by the new Tardis, I've deliberately avoided any photos so I could see it for the first time when it was revealed on the show. The lights coming on were cool, as were all the moving parts when it took off, but the overall look seemed cold and sterile, it reminded me almost of a hospital morgue. Especially in comparison to the last one, which was all lovely warm colours.

edit: also, I'm still sick of Moffat's obsession with using the words "doctor who" within the show. It was cheesy and annoying the first time, now they do it nearly every episode.

New TARDIS does look very 1950s low budget with a bit of 80s TARDIS for the console. Not sure why they need an extra console on that handrail. The interior where the doors are and the entry looks kind of Star Trek..... It's all a bit of a mish mash.

I hope the Clara thing isn't wibbly wobbly gobbledygooky....... We had enough of that with Amy Pond.

I don't quite understand why the re-did the tardis. Doesn't the tardis only re-build itself when the doctor regenerates? That was my understanding, it seems like a random thing to do with no reason for doing it.

Good episode though. I quite enjoyed it. Anyone know when the second part of the series starts? Is it on next week or do we have to wait a few weeks/months for it?

The Doctor can change the "desktop theme" whenever he wants (in the new series at least).
In the classic series the TARDIS interior changed very rarely, sometimes with no explanation, sometimes described as a secondary/backup console/control room.

Oooo there was so much to love, loved the mary poppinsish bit of Oswin, and she also had a my fair lady thing with her 2 voices, and matts sherlock.

And yuck, new TARDIS inner is double yuck - but I expect it symbolises DW distances and simplifies his world, and I expect it to gather souvineers and clutter as he travels???
I loved RTD interior, it was warm and glowing - this is cold and lab like the 60s

...to quote myself previously...

...to continue with what I was saying before about Steve Moffatt... what was wrong with the previous version of the Daleks?... we've gone from this...

...where they looked quite menacing to this...

...where they are big... fat... foppish... and barely recognisable as the original Daleks... seriously they look as scary as a wheelie bin on steroids... they are terrible...

...I'm terrified of what Moffatt's going to do to the Cybermen next?... these were my favourite Daleks...

...again... just my opinion... I think that since Steve Moffatt has taken over Dr Who that he is changing it so much that people will lose interest in the show eventually because of such big changes...

...as a side note that has nothing to do with Steve Moffatt... (since Torchwood went to the USA that show has gone downhill in good story lines IMHO... I hope that it returns to the UK once again)...

...I sure hope that Moffatt wakes up to himself and slowly reverts things back to the way they were before his meddling... it's not going to happen obviously... but I can only hope... sorry about the rant but he does get up my nose... bring back Russell T Davis... the man is a legend... cheers.

It's back in April. So a bit of a wait :(

Bugger! I was hoping there wasn't going to be a big gap again. It feels like we just started getting back into it and it stopped. Thanks Will.

Oh ok. I didn't know that. I haven't watched much with the first seven doctors. I'm not a fan of the new interior either. He's gone a bit too minimalist. The tardis has always been steampunk-ish, even back with the first doctors, well before steampunk was a recognised style with a name. I love steampunk and I want the steampunk tardis back.

I forgot to mention, I bought these along with a few other DW things for my twins for Christmas. It scored a few million brownie points, they thought they were hysterical and wore them most of the day. Best $20 each I spent all Christmas. So many people asked them why they were wearing a fez..of which they got to reply....well you know what they replied..lol

I saw those wastepaper bins, they are pretty cool. The boys got the cookie jars - the plastic ones that make the noise, not the ceramic ones - that look like a smaller version of the bins for their birthdays in October. They are on the bookshelves in their room filled with all of their christmas chocolate stash at the moment. It's funny, you can hear the tardis noise in the kitchen everytime they start snacking.

In a way that's good. You will know they are overdoing it by the sounds....and location.

Ooo wouldn't it be cool if you could rigg the front door to make TARDIS sounds, could have DW theme doorbell then TARDIS noise when you open the door:)

Your boys must look terribly cute in those fez hats.

Snowmen is repeated tonight 9.30pm......for anyone that missed it, or needs a 2nd helping like me, nice ABC, especially since it's TV wasteland otherwise
