Awwwww he was a good guy - also the original Maverick on TV, and he did a cameo on the movie.
He was one of those witty, don't take yourself too seriously nice types. It was quite lovely seeing him in the Notebook.

Funny isn't it how some were around so long and you kind of only know about the TV career, and there is so much more.
Like William Shattner - far out when they very cleverly used old movie footage Shattner interspersed with now fat Shattner on Boston Legal.
Scenes when he was in his 20s and OMG he was beautiful.
I liked Garner as a kid, watching his old shows, he was always cheeky and sort of naughty or something.
What he was is sexy and charming, that came across as cheeky to a kid

...I was quite upset to hear about his death... he was one of my favourite actors...my favourite movies that James Garner was in were 'Support your local Sherriff' with Bruce Dern and Joan Hackett.. and also '36 hours' with Rod Taylor and Eva Marie Saint... he was one of those actors that you always felt at ease with when you watched him in movies... ... R.I.P James Garner.

Wow. I watched Michael John's season of idol. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy.
