Deaths of Minor Celebrities

That's horrible, the ferocity of pancreatic cancer is just awful. It does seem a bit morose to have a tribute reel planned, but everyone knew this was coming and no doubt they were advised that it was imminent, so it makes sense that they would be prepared.

My question is why are so many media outlets reporting it as "gay newsreader dies" - is that really necessary to include in the headline? Or in fact to mention at all?

It's not necessary, but I wonder if there is possibly a small amount of goodwill in that mention? a further DE stigmatising, rather than RE stigmatising for the benefit of those still struggling with the concept of 'gay'. Could he have even endorsed the idea?

That is just so wrong (re gay newsreader dies) .... I watched him for years and never even crossed my mind, to question what his sexuality would be, nor did I care.

You never know - sounds like something he might have endorsed. Just IMHO.

I never thought of that, but that's totally possible. I guess being someone in the media with with foresight of his own passing he is able to control to an extent how it is reported, so maybe you're right.

I have seen certain LGBT publications report this way which I suppose makes sense, but your reasoning is the most logical for mainstream media. I'm sure it was an issue close to his heart and perhaps he felt little things like this can make a difference.

Any other explanation, however, is totally wrongtown!

well, i for one have never heard of him let alone who he chose to have sex with. i guess that is the main advantage of getting my "news" from google and the weekly free local paper rather than inflicting dumbed down irrelevancies and propaganda (all designed to sell me something ) from tv upon myself.

...Oh no... so sad!... he was my most favourite living artist since the first time that I became aware of him in the 70's... I so loved his erotic bio mechanical art... absolutely incredible work... the Alien 'monster' that he initially created was the most incredibly original design for an alien creature from any movie before that time... he was one weird man but incredibly talented with it too... such a loss from the art scene...

...many people consider his art to be 'filth' or 'rubbish'... he was definitely not everyone's cup of tea... I guess that you either loved him or hated him... I for one loved his artwork... R.I.P. H.R.Giger... some photos of the great man himself and some examples of his wonderous art...

... just a side note... the smallest image is of Debbie Harry done as one of many images of her for one of her record albums at the time if she looks familiar to you... cheers.

Wow sticky, just wow - and maybe you should PM Medusa with some of these images!

I loved that Debbie Harry cover, groundbreaking image.

So, racing legend Jack Brabham died.
Nice gentleman, we ran into him in our local milk bar as wee kids, my older sisters got his autograph. I just remember they were pretty excited and he just looked like somebody's dad to me.
