Episode Day 64 (10/11/14) Daily show

There is an unflattering perception of Mexicans/'Latinos' in Australia but none of it that originates from here, it's all imported from the mass producer of World Popular Culture, the States.

Unfortunately shows from the US regularly mock and/or portray latinos in an unflattering light (ie. Simpsons 'el cheapo' etc..., hispanics cast as crooks, shifty neighbours, gangbangers, etc.. in films and rarely as 'neutral' characters) and dolts who find it to hard to engage their brains here in Australia go on to unquestionably parrot that idiocy.

For example Jason was channeling his inner incompetent Manuel (a Catalan/Spanish character from Fawly Towers, an English comedy) for the hotel task and there were posters here who immediately assumed he was going for a blue-collar minimum wage Mexican character. *sigh*
Thank you for the perspective.

Proviso being that the appliance purchase includes one set barber's clippers for Tom's trainwreck hairdo & anti albino pigmentation kit for dick the brain

I think he already shaved that horrific hairdo off, at the end of last nights episode he had completely shaved hair. But maybe that was because the editing was doing another thingymajig. Would be funny if he's evicted with that hairdo lol.

Priya has a Masters of Teaching from the Uni of South Australia. So you're saying a three year Medical Imaging Degree program to become a RadioGRAPHER not a RadioLOGIST is considered "more brainiac" than someone completing first their Uni degree and then their Masters.

Please don't tell my boss that or the extra $ we pay for people with their Masters - including myself - will be pissed away in favour of three year programs lol
"Masters" doesn't mean shite. I've just finished a masters and some of my fellow students wouldn't have a triple figure IQ. And this was a science-based masters. Equating uni degrees to intelligence is simplistic and incorrect.

You know a masters in teaching is the base minimum to become a teacher, you only need a cred average to get

As a fan of both shows, but a fan of Survivor first, I feel like they're very different games. Big Brother is essentially a game of politics, with the viewers as your voting public. It's about baiting people into conversations that make them look bad to the viewers, about making them commit to attitudes that you know won't be sustainable for 80 days, about crafting a persona for yourself that appeals to the broadest audience while picking holes in everybody else's. Like politics, it's about flinging shit without getting any on yourself. There's a small amount of alliance making I suppose but I don't think it takes you very far, because you don't need numbers. At best it stops you from being a nominee enough that it buys you time to work some magic (and stops you from financially tapping out your fan base too early).

In fact, while I used to think Big Brother was just a popularity contest and Survivor was a better game show, I've come around to the idea that Big Brother is actually a harder game to play, because there's just so little under your control and so few ways to win. There is no blind sides in Big Brother. If someone is a threat to you (because you suspect they have massive outside support), there's no manoeuvring that can get them out, if they're number one in popularity it doesn't matter who they're up against. All you can do is bait them into controversial arguments to divide their support. Hey Skye, what's your opinion on abortion? She's pro-choice, the anti-abortion part of her fanbase falls away. She's anti-abortion, the pro-choice part of her fanbase falls away. She doesn't go strongly either way, she's a fence-sitter. She avoids the question, she appears weak for dodging the question. She criticises the question for being too serious, she's naive and immature. You're winning no matter the outcome.

One thing I think people underestimate is how much of the game is played in the diary room. It's not like Survivor where confessionals come out when the game is over, the diary room entries are part of the game too, so whatever your plan is, you can't tell Big Brother about it either or else your voters find out too (especially in a game where you have to pretend not to play).

Sorry for my long posts, need an editor ;)

I think that post needed to be long.

David's sister confirmed he has two degrees/qualifications, one in Nursing and one in Radiology. More interesting is that he can deliver a baby. Not something you'd expect from such a woman hater. ;) It doesn't sound like he has a Masters degree, so in that regard Priya "wins". David's earning potential over a career would be much higher I'd imagine. Teachers aren't exactly rolling in it, they should get paid more for what they do.

Are people here confusing Masters with Honours?

Because people generally don't realise that they are doctors first and interpret the image, pun intended. They see the radiographer and that's as far as it goes.
The radiographer always told me to wait for the report from the neurologist or whatever, so I assumed the radiographer couldn't comment (even if they saw something). Are radiographers the same as stenographers and who does MRIs?

My daughter was delivered by 2 midwives, one male and one female. I wouldn't know if the man was sexist; can't infer anything from his profession.

(Not singling you out in my previous post, dftw. I've read lots of similar posts this afternoon.)

Oh God, Travis was incredibly ignorant about dinosaurs. Dunno if he played dumb or was he in fact that oblivious.

Even the simpleminded would know that dinosaurs weren't the only animals 75 million years ago, AND, that they weren't the only animals to go extinct in the asteroid-impact event. He should also be noted that there were other mass extinction events before and after the one that involved dinosaurs.

Oh, dinosaurs aren't really extinct. Birds are a group of dinosaurs, and they are among us these days.

Was it really an astroid?

Well his message was another extinction event. Most large animals that couldn't get around efficiently to survive where killed in the permian.

I was more shocked at his mention of "TOKYO" at the introduction of the chinese dinner thing. Is it just me who was a bit surprised by this or maybe there is something I'm not aware of ?

i just watched this http://www.history.com/topics/why-did-the-dinosaurs-die-out and appears that theres no real evidence to pin it down on asteroid, i think Travis question was quite legitimate since all we have are theories
He did start it out well - "there were dinosaurs on this planet before humans....what happened to the dinosaurs?"... A reasonable statement. Then he had to ruin it by saying "if there is a God, he started this planet with dinosaurs and they were his kids". Really? Didn't his school teach him that there were fish, insects, amphibians and other reptiles before the dinosaurs?

Nice video btw. :)

stenographers are audio typists, sonographers are radiographers with specialised skills. best to google it.
