Episode DAY 50: Live Eviction # 6 (95m)

I would half believe this if he hadn't been a flight attendant though. You have to go through some pretty serious training to get a job like that, and Ben has hardly shown any of those traits whilst in the house.

As someone on the BB Facebook posted the other day, a flight attendant needs to have, first and foremost, leadership and strength qualities, in addition to his already welcoming personality. If there's an emergency on board, a flight attendant should be able to take charge, remain calm and confidently have the ability to keep others at rest whilst executing an evacuation plan or whatever. When has Ben shown that he can "think for himself" in decision making circumstances so far?

Regardless of whether you're a fan or not, I do think Ben is acting dumber whilst in the house than he really is. He is yet to show us any kind of leadership skills nor prove that is capable of making decisions or that he can think for himself - at least not externally. There have been several discrepancies in his persona during his time on BB so far that, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, I've noticed. He slightly changes how he talks and acts when speaking to different HM's (such as Drew and Tim), and also when he is in the Diary Room. For somebody who has shown that he can be quite modest most of the time, he somehow suddenly cranks out this false modesty and confidence as soon as he knows he's live on TV (although similar to other HM's in that sense) but also during his "save me" speeches and, on occasion, in his day-to-day Diary Room entries. We see flickers of various Ben's at different points in the show and it doesn't add up to me.

With this in mind, I'm starting to observe a lot of similarities between him and how Tim "played the game" back in 2005. Obviously it's a completely different circumstance and it's something that was obviously totally unknown back in '05, but Tim did an AMAZING job at what he did. I see reflections of this in (this year's) Tim's way of playing Big Brother too. Since (BB05's) Tim revealed his game playing "tactics", I've realised that, in all honesty, it's not that hard to put this gameplay into effect if you really wanted to achieve it. Read more about it here: http://www.acma.gov.au/webwr/_assets/main/lib101055/179brunerot.pdf

In tonight's episode when Ben "interrupted" Tully and Drew twice, all I kept thinking of was what Tim mentions in that above article about trying to get "involved in at least some of the sub-plots the producers use to keep the whole thing running". Combine that with a few one-liners and you've got yourself further affection by the general public alongside the whole persona he's got going on.

I dunno. There's just something inconsistent about Ben that confuses me.

Look, in the beginning, I was just a bit iffy, especially with his cooky intro video, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. But as the days go on, I am starting to become more and more convinced that Ben is not all he seems - and I will stand by that, whether I'm alone on this theory or not. Just my analysis. Just my opinion.

Great post buddy, and I had actually considered basically all of this throughout the season, I guess I have just come to the point where I thought I might be giving him too much credit. So as the days have gone by, for me, I have become more and more convinced this is just Ben.

Oh on the flight attendant thing, I take your point about the training, but about the actual job, his deficiencies might be the exact reason why he isn't in that field any longer. Perhaps he didn't have what it took and was fired?!? Do we know how long he actually was a flight attendant? Also I guess there would be large discrepancies between airlines. I'm sure QANTAS has different standards to some of the budget airlines (prior to them all being bought out BY QANTAS lol haha)

and thanks for posting that miley cyrus parody...it looked funny so i actually you tubed the real miley video before i watched so i could see what they were sending up......and i've never been more disturbed in my life!!!!!! waaaahhhhh stop licking tools, close your legs and put on a bra woman! the song was actually quite a good one but i'll never be able to hear it again without that damn visual popping into my head. I hope someone broke out the bleach when filming stopped...*shudder*

This bleach aint goin' anywhere near that train wreck(ing ball...) :P

All of the above is what makes him so perfect for this show. He remains unaffected by so much of the drama.

Yes he's a bit of an 'actress' but aren't they all to some extent? He is doing things we haven't seen before... The photo-chat, the random, witty humour without being loud and obnoxious about it. He's not a scene stealer nor is he necessarily a wallflower.

Amongst all of the toxic, one-sided or unrequiited lusty relationships, there is Ben...in his PJ's just 'being himself'. Kid's a genius, playing the perfect role and maintaining his sense of self while others implode. I applaud him for having the guts to play this game!

Not sure if anyone has already said it, but Tim was already sus that one of the evictees would come back... Now he will have it confirmed. Tim KNOWS Ben wouldn't go before the others!! This is going to be GOOD!

Yep, if he was smart he would keep it to himself

If the number of nominees is being reduced as of tomorrow, I hope it's still at least four. It's better having more choice this year. Last year was ridiculous when Estelle and Angie kept getting put up week after week, leaving only one more possible housemate to boot >_<

This is why they need to air some more "real" conversations between HM's, like they used to. Knowing a bit about their lives and their past on the outside is partly what made this show so great. We hardly hear much about the HM's lives anymore (at least not to the extent that we used to), even though we know they discuss it at length at various points to different HM's whilst in the house.

Not knowing some more aspects about Ben's life, in particular, doesn't help.

well your tweet could have been elaborated on a bit before tweeting him. I think I saw you write to someone on here tonight that they should reconsider before using shallow and mindless words, or something to that effect? my my, how ironic. :):):)

What I tweeted to Alex wasn't a reply to something he tweeted. I think if you bother replying to someone's post, then yes, I stand by what I said.

Yep. This! I'd be hoping for 4, still allowing for the nominee mid-week swap.

I really wasn't meaning to be bitchy, just thought it a little ironic and funny. However, my point still stands, don't complain about his response. You weren't articulate enough to tweet him directly (as you did) and get a response more than what he gave.
Just my 2c :)

Just watched the eviction who and foster did not record all of it

What happens after while bb talks to Ben? Do they give the percentages? What is bens advantage?

I hope whoever decides to reduce the number of nominees realises that without more housemates to choose from, the meatheads and the boring ones would still be there...

Ben gets to watch the housemates tomorrow and also gets to give them orders (through Big Brother). He won't be present when the others nominate and so will be immune from nominations. I'm guessing he still gets to nominate though...

I can't completely say I think you've hit the nail on the head, but certainly hit the nail in a comfortable middle ground I'd be happy to accept. if that makes any sense whatsoever. If it is an act, good on him. He is playing it well

Preach it, brother! more natural conversations would be ideal!

Oh ok. Interesting. Thank you

Did anyone else notice the ecstatic face that Tully had on her when the final 2 were left as Ben and Mikkayla? Then she bawls her eyes out and runs to be the first to hug Ben as if he was her best friend in the house. So fake.

yes there were a few smirks, i noticed this, because they all thought mikkayla was going and couldn't hide their glee!

surely by now they;d have some decent footage to be sharing with us from the house! There would have to be SOME reactions worth showing! And maybe even Tim reiterating that he thinks one will be coming back!

Has Tim actually said he thinks Ben will be coming back?

Whilst I agree, I have to say that they could legitimately say the extended number of nominees has served it's purpose, don it's job etc. and is no longer needed. We have a good mix of fairly strong HMs remaining now. Love them or loathe them, the remaining HMs have all been involved in fairly pivotal story arcs now. Almost all of them, anyway ;)

Ed isn't needed though.

so Matthew calls Tully & Drew out in his goodbye message and Ed's response is to say "Can I say ... Awkward"

Wtf Ed - Matt said exactly what you have sat there and agreed with him about ... and you sit there and call it Awkward?

Guess you're not going to rock the boat now until after nominations tomorrow night ... not going to man up and drop your bombshell ...

at least Matt stood up and said his piece - whether anyone agrees with it or not - at least he had the guts and the conviction to do so.

All kudos to him for doing it.
