So despite having a totally cushy head HM role, even with a luxury budget for the shopping, Lawson still messes it up and then he stirs against Katie. All the HMs were clearly shown as being annoyed with the shopping mistake not just Katie. We've never really been shown how Lawson has been during his head HM role either, all we get are little remarks of displeasure from others which doesn't make up for the gap. The show would be better I think if we were given a broader view in the house.

There was a strange bit with the dogs where it looked like they were trying to give David some HLs time, but it looked like scraping the barrel. The producers gave him the moment with Tim but he still hasn't come to life I guess.
 
So toying with whether it's worth catching up on this week. Tim highly recommends Thursdays episode which I'll probably watch over the weekend - not sure I can stomach half an hour of Skye moaning about someone stretching her pants though!

Things like this always happen early in the season. Someone is bound to go over, and they learn pretty quickly.

If the contents of the show is a BB fallout does that mean they are abandoning the banquet (fingers crossed!). How do they already have the footage if the show is based around a Friday-night? The other side of the coin is though, if it isn't from Friday night then why are they holding it over?

Actually I remember Tim making comments after in the DR maybe snarking on Drew for liking that Foxtel show.

Yeah, I remember they let Drew (and Tim) watch the season premier of Breaking Bad or something. Then they let Jade was Next Top Model because she came second in Showdown for a bunch of weeks in a row.

I was figuring at the time that if they're doing the cross promotion then why couldn't they essentially share some of the rights with Foxtel like they do the NRL or something? Imagine being able to watch a live feed on Foxtel all day - although I know that's a pipe dream given it wouldn't work with the highly edited show they want to give us.

The episodes produced earlier in the week don't seem like BB but Thursday was a good ep. Having said that, I hope Alex M never gets another job producing in television again!

Lawson had $750 to spend, but he ended up spending $1266. He should have basically gone through each item and reduced it by 40%, or eliminated the unnecessary items, such as biscuits. But that could have meant putting certain HMs offside as he took away their luxury items, and he did not want to do this. He did not want to make those decisions, so he left it up to BB to do the dirty work for him. So, when Lawson had to face his fellow HMs, he could blame BB. However, it seems that the HMs didn't buy this explanation, and were blaming Lawson for the cockup.

Another explanation is called for, and I think Leema may be onto something when she suggested that Lawson may have dyscalculia. The arithmetic calculations may have been too much for him.

I know a little about this as one of my brothers has acalculia. The difference between dyscalculia and acalculia is that dyscalculia appears to be a genetic disorder, while acalculia can come on as a result of brain damage later in life. In my brother's case, the brain damage has been caused by alcohol abuse.

We don't really have enough information to be able to tell, and this is typical of this show. What we need to know is, did Lawson know he was $500 over budget at the time, or did BB have to tell him afterwards.

Maybe there's a clue is the fact that when we see Lawson using the calculator, he turns it upside down and says "boobies." This is an old calculator joke - it appears on the Big Bang Theory, for example - but it may be a sign that Lawson does not know how to use a calculator. Hence, when lawson says the other HMs will just have to suck it up, he may be referring to the fact that he was incapable of doing the sums.

And another thing.... If he truly does have dyscalculia, what does that tell us about his decision to give Aisha the $20k? Did Lawson avoid that convo with Aisha because, like Rainman, his mind went blank when it came to talking about money?

And could his magic tricks have been developed to cover up his lack of budgeting skills?
 
I would love to know the reasons behind Lawson going over budget. Was it on purpose to create drama?

He seemed like he couldn't be bothered working out the costs properly. When talking to housemates in the lounge he said " the power has obviously gone to my head" so maybe he was just annoyed with everyone and thought stuff it.

I doubt Lawson has dyscalculia.

You don't have to be a maths genius to know you are over budget then you have filled a huge whiteboard with your shopping list.

Lawson knew he was over budget, as I think he said BB can sort it out.

Would Lawson have known the cost of each item? I agree with Silkworm that he must have some sort of disability if he blew the budget by over five hundred dollars.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the donkey. :) I saw it as a bit of both of these things. In relation to the ‘drama’ I also wondered if it was to get a reaction specifically from Katie. She does seem to be quite vocal about food, and Lawson gave her 5 nomination points so I thought it could be part of his strategy to stir the pot / kick things off leading up to the eviction.
 
Would you be able to tell how much $750 would get you if you didn't calculate it? Because I know I would have no idea. I think he just couldn't be bothered calculating it, and he figured he wasn't over by thatttt much and whatever he was, big brother could handle what to take out.
 
Just a few thoughts -

Viewers are voting for HOH right?

The storm coming/fight whatever, is likely about who won - or they may have a final battle for it.
If it is the battle, HMs are forming sides.
Or
Public may have voted for Lawson - thus the freak out. Or the HM chosen just shits them.Travis???

None of these people trust a single soul in there.
Katie actually believes they will steal her money, even with the camera surveillance .
I know she is an idiot, but that is the vibe in there for everyone.

They are all giving each other the side eye, the WTF are you up to looks, assessing each other, shifting alliances, the undercurrent is quite interesting and a shame we don't have proper access to watch.
they are all still sorting themselves out from pairs.
This pairs thing seems to have divided the usual boybanding shit, fantastic.
Pairs has confused them quite a bit.
EG Lisa kind of hates Skye, but she can't be sure skye didn't save her.
Ryan and Trav, well Ryan is busy distancing himself from his original pair

And note, there is no mediator happening - people are natural mediators in large groups and it is essential.
Otherwise everything splinters just as it is.
Priya, is clearly a natural mediator, and so are a few, NOBODY wants to do it.
TIM did it for a minute.
Intruders will have a mediator.
