Hands down, I think this year is my favourite countdown yet. Those visuals are 👌

Also, is BBAU one of the only shows that even does a countdown? It feels like a bit of a tradition now but, come to think of it, I can't recall (m)any other shows that go to the effort each year.

I know still images don't have the same effect, but here's some countdowns from BBAU past for a fun comparison:

Yeah, can we please not do Imgur any more? It's region blocked in the UK because of our dumb "won't somebody please think of the children" law, and it's making everything a massive pain in the arse. 🥺

I don’t mind Leon’s voice when it isn’t overly stressed and exaggerated. The clip posted recently of his hack dubbing job is an example. It sounded good in general DR chat and then sounded way too over the top when they dubbed him in.

Not remembering the clip but I get what you’re saying. I was actually going to say the voice he’s using in the advert sounds less exaggerated. I don’t mind his voice either but I do see where the criticisms are coming from. Leon’s BB sounds very distinct and while I think there is room for each BB voice to have its own unique qualities and traits (strict, funnier, even sexy) if we’re going back to basics or starting again from zero there is a “genericness” in the main voice that’s been lacking in the prior two eras.

Love it! Hopefully they take the same approach when it comes to copyright striking live feed clips etc. I can understand they obviously want official sources being used and that they’re not likely to allow for full episodes or significant blocks of live feeds to be uploaded anywhere but a few minutes here and there to highlight something noteworthy (especially given that we’re unlikely to be able to rewind or at least not significantly) goes back to what I said in the ratings thread about this show being built up on the grassroots.

There’s been talk of ITV canning the feeds after this season due to low viewership and I firmly believe that their iron fist copyright enforcement has a lot to do with it. Reading updates is one thing but actually seeing things is another. I think more people would be inclined to watch the feeds or at least turn them on in the background if they had a better idea of the role they play vs only watching the daily edited highlights.

As if I couldn’t love her even more. I can’t to see how she executes this strategy. She’s obviously going to have a much younger vibe I don’t necessarily see the way she envisions herself in the role as being too far off the energy Gretel had in those early series. Gretel was very much “large and in charge” while Mel I think is going to be “tiny but mighty”. No carbon copy but definitely “complimentary”?

So sounds like they're putting a massive sexist in the house to cause friction rather than just giving viewers a show to enjoy. Platforming right wing extremists never makes for a better show.

Also still no confirmation of where the live feeds will be hosted?

Giving fans some basic capabilities to edit and remix things from the live feeds would be imho the next logical step for the show.

Big Brother used to be really innovative with the live streaming. In a time when some people wouldn't even know how to access the internet, they had multiple streams running. And instead of taking this experience to the next level, they - BB channels around the world - actually took steps backwards... be it by cutting down features, live hours or gutting the live stream all together. Now we live in a time where everyman access the internet and platforms like YouTube and Twitch come with clipping and remixing capabilities. But broadcasters turn their BB feeds into nothing more than a FAST channel.

They should take some inspiration from Twitch. Let people clip scenes directly from the feeds. Host these clips on your website, let people link to these clips, let them embed them on their websites. You can monetise all of that. Use the monetisation features on YouTube when people share clips of your show. There are so many possibilities to make extra money from viewers doing the work for you.

It's probably the one thing that annoys me the most with BB these days... just how much they refuse to embrace the internet when they've done all that even before the internet was cool. So many missed opportunities :(
 
This isn’t necessarily making a lot of sense to me. Wasn’t one of Sara-Marie’s most iconic moments (cooking fish sticks) when there were only 3 people left in the house?

They’re definitely undercutting the fact that some of the most entertaining and real moments from this show come from monotony and boredom. If they’ve done their job and the cast is as strong as they say there shouldn’t be a worry about how many HM’s are left in the end or whether a handful of them will be entertaining.

Also don’t feed me the “modern audience tastes”/“short attention span” fallacy BS. The audience will make an investment if the investment is worth making.
