Maybe we were just used to it in 2012 but my goodness I do not remember those promos being that cringe at the timeNine marketing was a room full of boomers that thought Millennials loved flash mobs. The second hand embarrassment is very real.
This screams “The twist is this >insert food type< is actually fat and sugar free” or “The twist is this >insert service< is cheaper and more reliable” type of ad. Not Big Brother. The worst promo - and definitely also one of the worst if not the worst worldwide - is the one 9 used the year afterwards... the Twist.
I'd forgotten how kid focused it becameWhile we’re on that topic, I went back and watched the opening intro of the Launch in 2012, 2013, and 2014. If you wanna see cringe, look no further. I completely forgot Sonia entered the stage each season on Nine with a full choreographed dance routine.
The 2013 one in particular literally made me laugh aloud. Shocking.
lol it certainly isn’t. It would get more ratings (and more controversy - big brother fuel) if it was on later with an M rating.I

I just remembered the talking fish.
Big Brother is not meant for children.
I'm a Sonia fan (bite me), but I do admit that the dance routines in the openings were cringe asf. While we’re on that topic, I went back and watched the opening intro of the Launch in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Oh god, I forgot about that.I just remembered the talking fish.
In all fairness though, Sonia was a dancer in her heyday. Dancing was not Gretel's forte. All I keep thinking (and laughing at) is imagine this but with Davina, Julie or Gretel.![]()
These openings had to have been a new low in BB lore!

And let's not forget about Sonia's magic powers...

He wasn't struggling thoughNot just someone making dumb fish puns and struggling to do a British accent.
Huh. Does he have *that* British accent? Or just *a* British accent? Because it sounded awful. He wasn't struggling thoughThat was Alex Mavroidakis, the ÈP at the time, who does have a British accent.
Sighs in Miriam teaching the BB 2004 housemates how to dance. In all fairness, dancing should not be Big Brother's forte either.![]()
If I remember it right, Surly had a scouse accent, which I'm pretty sure Alex doesn't.Huh. Does he have *that* British accent? Or just *a* British accent? Because it sounded awful.![]()
I think he just exaggerated it, but was definitely him.Huh. Does he have *that* British accent? Or just *a* British accent? Because it sounded awful.![]()
Slightly OT: On Monday, 3rd November Mel will be on Deal or No Deal (7pm on 10).
Ohh is it strange that promo feels weirdly nostalgic to me? The underscore is almost exactly what Ten used in all the 2001 promos to promote the Daily Show/Eviction episodes, particularly the bit at the very end.
EPG Description:
Mel Tracina the new host of Big Brother is here to win money for her charity - Lighthouse Foundation. But first she'll have to beat The Banker who is The Deal's unseen puppet master
BTW: Old/better BB eye makes a cameo appearance! Guessing this promo was created prior to the eye change.
