BB/CBB UK - Rewatch discussions

BBUK10 (2009) Started:
BBUK10 Launch:
  • The Eye logo is giving ‘Purple fingerprint’, and the entry walkway to the stage appears to have been lengthened to the right (we’ll see if it remains that way), with the screen outside the house moved adjacent to where it was actually on the house before to being along the fence in front.
  • There interestingly wasn’t much of a house tour with Davina this time as per the season’s opening twist, which is that they are not housemates yet, they will have to win their way into bonafide status or be voted in over the first week. Unsure how many will be given the boot or if there’ll still be an eviction of a ‘proper housemate’ as well after that.
  • Anyways the immediate point is that the entryway and Diary room placement is pretty much carbon copy from BB9 with some aesthetic changes, which is something we haven’t really seen them do so blatantly I guess since maybe BB1 into BB2. At least from what we’ve seen of the rest of the house there’s still some shake ups and changes. The main central area is barren, with a lone barbers chair, some crates, a screen and off to where the kitchen area was in BB9, and shipping container looking door. Also some locked doors. Theres also a telephone near the Garden door. There was a quick look at the Garden as well, there appears to be another section of the house off to the side.
  • 16 (notyet!)housemates, some that stood out to me included Angel, the kooky Russian boxer lady, Rodrigo and Charlie are cute, The crowd also responded well to Sophia (btw we’ve got a bit of samey name going on with Sophie, Sophia AND ‘Saffia’ which seems to be pronounced a bit like ‘Sapphire’). Another 40 something Lisa, she has a bit of a stark kinda look with the mohawk and everything but she seems pretty laid back we’ll see. Kris kinda reminds me looks wise of maybe bit of Joe Jonas mixed with like perhaps Charlie Pickering? lol (also if I didn’t mention it before last season Rachel kinda gave me slight Samantha Jade kinda vibes at times haha). Siavash seemed a bit eccentric as well and Benavhir seems fun to name a couple. Interesting mix.
  • Diary room chair seems a bit more compact than last season, also bit of a green kinda hue going on. Anyways BB calls any housemate to the diary room, It’s Rodrigo. BB explains the twist, theres a shaver and marker in friont of him and also a diagram of glasses and moutchache drawn on a stick figure face to the side. At first I thought oh here we go, poor Rodigo given the choice if to shave something off himself to gain housemate status but no its 4 minutes to get someone else to agree to not only shave off their eyebrows, but allow him to draw the glasses and moutchae on which they will have to wear for a while. He can tell the rest of them what the task is. Noirin is up for it which was a smart thinking move actually because She had already gone over them with eyebow pencil and can repaint them on well, so much so that BB didn’t immediately stop the timer and had to double check Rodrigo had actually shaved them off. LOL crazy scenes.
  • Anyway they both gain housemate status and gain access to the bedroom, which only has two beds in it at the moment so it seems pretty spacious.
  • Here’s where I’m going to make a few guesses, since the opening this season raises a few questiuons since we havent been shown everything so far. Davina mentioned the rest might be living out of crates for the first part, So I’m thinking the Shipping Container might be the storeroom, or the part of the house across from the garden might be the kitchen? and they’ll add or win more furniture soon enough perhaps. They might be sleeping on camp beds in that main area or something until this twist is over. We shall see.
  • Big Mouth set has some column like structures around the edges and has some Deep purple and red kinda hues, the guests (Pete Burns and Mat Horne on this opening episode) have two seats along with Davina the host on a bit more of a raised platform to the side of the screen.
  • BBLB set kinda reminds me a little bit of a combo of some of the vibes from BB7 with the aqua and purple, and BB8 with the open longways set with walls and audience on the one side and blue aesthetic but with also background a little darker and stuff. Housemate moving profiles are along the opposite wall to BB8 on a kindof cylindrical half pipe formation you can see what looks like the new eviction stage in that Purple and Aqua blue kindof lighting behind it over the way. Aisleyne was one of the guests on the opener episode.
  • So yeah that’ll do for now, it’ll be interesting to see what other challenges they do for a slot to become housemates and there’s also a vote in special on Sunday’s episode.

    Onto the next few episodes!

Worst launch twist ever - dread to think how many high level execs signed off on shaving off someones etebrows being the hook to get people watching. The only C4 series I gave up on - found it so badly cast with people it was difficult to relate to.

The whole launch week and how people earned housemate status was extremely weak.

This series had quite a few people in Germany that spoke fondly of the series. I always contributed it to the fact that for many people, it was the first British season and thus gave them some excitement from the fact that it was different and thus fresher than what the German season had been at point.

Just the other day, I read one comment that said that the BB10 ad campaign (for the series itself, not the 10th anniversary campaigns) was the best campaign for any UK series. I'm still thinking about that because I thought the ad campaign became quite lacklustre at that point. They were more excited for the anniversary programs than the series itself.

Even during the series, it became quite evident that BB10 was when they were not just hit with budget cuts but also just gave up. Might add more to it once @Affiliate progressed a little bit further into the series. But I think the BB10 house might have been one of the worst houses in the UK.

Ok time for another little update as I'm up to the rest of Week 1 proper now the nons and housemates opening few days thing is done.

But yeah the other rooms have now been revealed over the past 3 days, Grey door is a toilet, Yellow door is the Kitchen which is longways with the storeroom at the back; and the Blue Shipping crate is the bathroom, which is visually very stripped down and kinda basic (then again tbf though some of the bathrooms in the past werent all that elaborate as say the BB8 or BB9 ones were aesthetically, like BB7's for example) but also it looks like we are back to no privacy partition/frosting for the shower, nup its a cubed transparent block in the corner.

Now all the beds have been brought in its a bit crowded in the bedroom, you've got the wooden style bed bases some just slotted in lengthways along the foot of two other beds in the middle of the room haha.

I think the white wall on the far side of the garden is just that and not an extra room as I first thought, I thought I could make out some sort of door handle near the pool area where it cuts in to a little side area, and I think the big door along the back wall could perhaps be the big task room if they have one this season.

The Bus Stop is a fun little add on that was used for the Special eviction on Sunday, The Non Housemate being evicted got their mini interview on a double decker bus before being driven off set.

Up next bit more of an update on first few days of BB10. ;)

BBUK10 Week 1 part 1 (up to Mon daily show covering Sunday’s Special):

  • The rest of the Big Mouth episode, had the ‘Rebel Bingo’ girls reading out which numbered housemte to discuss ‘Magic or Tragic’ cards from the audience next, with some innuendo. Also cross to Matt Edmonson at a Launch party Brian Belo was having with some other former housemates Billi, Samanda (BB8), Maxwell (BB6), and Kathreya & Luke (BB9)…. in the Caravan from BB8! lol. an Mc also did a singing intro and outro.
  • On Launch night the Nons have to change into uniformed clothes or yellow/beige tank tops and underwear and get a jacket and pants kinda outfits to wear. Lisa is the first to pick up the ringing phone and gets 15 mins to think about who she will pick to become a housemate with her. She picks Kris. The non’s allget a blanket and pillow to sleep on the floor.
  • In the morning the Housemates get breakfast delivered by BB in the diary room, whilst the Non’s get ambushed by SAS and put through some drills. Saffia is first to the Diary room when called and the non’s get 2 minutes to discuss who wants to do a) a walking on glass challenge and b) a mystery 30 second endurance challenge. Saffia chooses herself and Charlie for glass walking (which they pass but unbeknownst to them its only Sugar glass which can still cut you but not as severely as real glass as demonstrated by SAS man Martyn on BBLB) and Karly for the secret challenge.
  • She is blindfolded and the shutters prevent the others from seeing that its not the real motorbike revving thats got its tire against her stomach, but the SAS guys rolling a spare tyre on her and trying to get her to say the safe word Safeguard. she passes and becomes a housemate.
  • The way Saffia was assertive enough to go for picking herself gets Sophia offside, and its created a bit of a sore point between them over the next few days.
  • The non housemates gets their meals delivered through the hatch while the housemates get the kitchen opened for them.

  • Freddie and Sophie are next first to the diary room when BB announces and change their names via Deed Poll to… ‘Halfwit’ and ‘Dogface’ to become housemates. They have been referred to as such by Marcus Bentley, Davina, George Lamb etc since then. They had Neil Hamilton on BBLB to confirm that the Deed Poll is legit and they would need to do it again to change it back, I’m thinking surely they’ll only milk this for a week or two at best or give them a chance to win their names back or something, watch this space.
  • The Last Challenge is a ‘biscuit dunking’ competition in the diary room one by one. Cairon narrowly beats out Siavash for the longest ‘legal’ dunk attempt where the biscuit holds it shape 5 seconds after being removed from the cup of tea (and theres some major Bromance developing between these two), meaning the remaining six non’s will be put up for a public vote in which one will be evicted. Sree gets a bit downcast about it but gets some words of encouragement from the others. The bathroom gets opened up.
  • Lisa leads the housemates in a bit of dress up and singalong/catwalk outside. Saffia and Sophie have some words with each other trying to have it out in front of everyone when Saffia walks in on Sophie bitching about Saffia doing what any of them most likely would have and put herself up for the housemate task. Karly is telling Freddie (Halfwit) about it outside but at first he seems a bit oblivious to it. Marcus tells Sophie (Dogface) he might be getting a slight attention seeking vibe from Sree.

  • Later on everyone draws on their face in solidarity and Davina reads out the non-housemates that made it one by one from the eviction set (kinda like BB7’s with Audience stands and a wide stage that kinda has a bit of the half pipe thing going on this season lit up in Purple and aqua kinda theme.
  • In no particular order it’s down to Siavash and Bienazir after Sree makes it through, and its Bienazir evicted. Siavash may not have actually been bottom 2 as it was no particular order, however I did make a guess it couldve been down to Bien and Sree, Sree kindof came out of himself a bit more whilst Bien didnt really feature much to get in the edit (although she did say she had started to find her groove more on the last day) iykwim, plus she was fine with going and took it in her stride so it turned out well considering. She exits in a big blanket and has her short interview with Davina on the Double decker bus waiting outside to drive her off, no crowds. She did get a very brief best bits on BBLB the following day though, and for a gag driven off in a buggy at the end of the episode.
  • I think Sree has a kinda adorkable quality, as does Freddie- I mean ‘Halfwit’ haha (btw another lookalike hes kinda giving me slight Ryan Gosling vibes?). Freddie was randomly singing in the dark in the bedroom to the others one night this week. He also revealed He’s a little bit Bi (as Rodrigo is too iirc) and theres been some interesting discussions such as the crowd booing him perhaps from his upper class background so they might percieve him to be a bit up himself or something.
  • After the eviction the suitcases are delivered and Charlie, Saffia etc have a grand time looking at some of Siavash’s outlandish outfits. They also get Pizzas and drinks as a reward. Sophie and Charlie prank Sophia hiding her wine glass, and Sophia is bitching about Saffia again in the diary room thinking she might be starting a bit of a clique.

  • On BBLB, Aisleyne shaved the eyebrows of one of the crew and drew on their face as in the task-similarly to Noirin though, he had very faint kinda brows anyway so it wasn’t that huge of a visual difference imo; she also went through some of the housemates intros in the mentalist segment analysing their body language etc.
  • Theres a comp ‘Quiz of the decade’ where the prize is to attend the 10th anniversary celebrations on the 17th July. The first heat had Makosi and Brian Belo as guests helping the contestants. Iain Lee had some segment about looking at BBGermany, and Makosi and the band played out the episode singing ‘These Boots Were made for walkin’ with a band. Some phone in questions and Big Answer is also back.
  • I’m thinking nominations will be in the next episode with another eviction set for Friday.

    Onto the next few episodes!

It's even worse than I remember - and the worst change is yet to come. I think that was the night I quit the series.

I remember this week quite vividly - it was a rough time to be a Big Brother fan. Even though 8 and 9 were less popular that what came before, there was still a bit of pomp and ceremony around them starting.

But BB10 was just graveyard silence, both in the press and with the general public. There was no live feed so there was nothing for the press to report on in the day, the launch was weak and felt empty, the twist was dreadful, and it was absolutely tanking in the ratings.

It really did feel like everyone involved had given up on the show - it was just… hollow.

Exactly - and the problem with axing the live feed is not that the majority of fans watch the show 24/7 but that the live feed creates the content 24/7 which builds the hype around the show, so even if you don't watch directly yourself it's likely you get information from those who are, whether other fans on forums etc. or the press.

Format wise I guess the non-housemate twist was really a rehashing of the "Big Brotherhood" twist that BB7 launched with - and that itself somewhat flopped but was quickly forgotten because of how good the rest of the series was.

It might not be something that the average UK viewer felt, but the contrast between the UK's BB10 and Germany's BB9, which aired the same year was quite interesting and just underlined how the UK producers just gave up on the show. When BB9 launched to disastrous ratings, the German production started a huge rescue plan and tried everything to save the show: change the house, introduce former houseguests, get more interesting housemates, get half-celebrities, throw in some very big boobs.. not that I think that everything they've done was great but they've obviously tried and definitely been successful with turning the season around.

But with the UK one, you just watched it dying... although I do think that BB10 might have been the first season where the producers had to do some heavy lifting to influence the course of the series. I'm aware that these accusations are as old as the show itself but it never felt as bad as it was during BB10. But more about that later in order not to spoil anything.

Also, not really C4's or Endemol's fault.. but BB10 was the first season where I lost some love for the BB fan community, at least parts of it. When you criticise something on the internet, you have to expect people coming for you and argue with you and that's okay. But until that point, I've never seen people being so toxic about it. Some acted like the criticism killed the show. That might have also soured my perception of this season in particular.

Ah, BB9 Reloaded - remember that well. Indeed if these forums go back far enough I'm sure I probably suggested something similar for BB10 at the time.

I think the white wall on the far side of the garden is just that and not an extra room as I first thought, I thought I could make out some sort of door handle near the pool area where it cuts in to a little side area,
Well Actually turns out I was right! Day 5 opens with them waking up to the main corridor being furnished with a table and seats, The pool cover removed, The ashtray is a mini replica of the bus... and, that entire wall has been revamped to reveal window panelling, and a big sitting/lounge area with in a somewhat circular formation dark purple couches. It's kinda similar to BB6's outside lounge room, separate to the main house. We hadn't yet seen the hexagonal wall design teased in the interstitial scene transitions yet, so figures.
Exactly - and the problem with axing the live feed is not that the majority of fans watch the show 24/7 but that the live feed creates the content 24/7 which builds the hype around the show, so even if you don't watch directly yourself it's likely you get information from those who are, whether other fans on forums etc. or the press.
This was addressed in one of the Big Answers at the end of one of the BBLB's, George reading out some Ch 4 statement something along the lines of like 'we noticed theres more traffic on the website for the little short updates and clips so weve focused more on that, but there's still going to be a late night live stream block played on E4' or something iirc.

That being said this whole episode was a bit breather and not much going on, I guess maybe to give them a day's grace to properly re-integrate themselves and settle in after the whole becoming housemates thing and the rest of house being opened up. No tasks as yet, and no nominations yet for Friday's eviction, although theres been a few divides and issues appear to be forming (more in my next update point), I'm expecting maybe Freddie, Sree and Lisa perhaps to cop some nominations we'll see.

BBUK10 Week 1 part 2 (Monday to Saturday Eps):
  • The rest of the house opens up as I mentioned after everyone has now become a housemate. That first day is a bit of a breather as it’s mainly them settling in. Halfwit (Freddie) causes a bit of gossip by making a whole lot of Egg salad and Siavash tries taking him aside later that that might cause friction with soem of the others maybe ask who wants some first before making a big batch of whatever. Later Halfwit is singing for Rodrigo, Dogface (Sophie) etc and it feels a bit X Factor Auditions episode for a moment.
  • The girls decide to make some entertainment for themselves by swapping a token for some treats, however Sophie and Karly get Lisa a bit huffy after they come into the Diary room and swap the token for alcohol without first asking everyone else what they actually wanted to swap it for. Sree is flitting around some of the girls and having D&M conversations, although he also expresses uncomfortable with how Karly and Sophie are dressing as they did Moulin Rouge theme (which gets Karly a bit paranoid and second guessing herself for a moment) and also Sophia was showing him some ‘drop it like its hot’ (which was recreated with some ‘proto Twerking’ by Terry Christian and Michelle Heaton on BBLB this week lol). Although he’s also seen getting quite close to some of the girls so it may seem like he might be coming off a bit of a flirt also.
  • speaking of flirting, theres quite a few lingering shots in the edit of Freddie rubbing Sophie’s neck, or Sophie drawing on Kris’ back or playing with his hair. The Bromance between Cairon and Siavash is also going on, with Cairon washing Siavash’s hair in the tub.
  • Nominations take place, Lisa was funny ‘whats his name again? Dipshit? (Halfwit). It’s Halfwit and Sophia up for Friday’s eviction. Halfwit isn’t that keen on Sree, and Sree also gets into a bit of a shut up match with Sophia during a mini task where Lisa is the patient housemate, sitting outside, Halfwit takes a quiz as the most intelligent, Angel tries being musical and Marcus tries strength ripping a phonebook. Again Siavash tells Sree he might be better to tone it down for a bit.
  • Angel also gets a bit upset at Rodrigo hitting a nerve and getting a bit fed up with her seeming to focus on negativity a lot. She has a moment in the bathroom, but makes up with Rodrigo after getting a talk from Lisa. Later she also gets a special little Russian themed party for one in the Diary room for her BDay.
  • Angel also dyes Halfwits hair and beard dark brown, we’re getting a bit of an early bit of a makeover this season.

  • Shopping task is a mission impossible style task in the task room, they chose Kris to navigate a laser room to retrieve an Emerald jewel. The Others are hooked up outside to custard filled balloons which expand and pop every time Kris trips a laser, which he’s allowed 6 fails. He also has googles on which he cant see the lasers, but can spray them to see them with a spraybottle. He passes the task and all the balloons pop.
  • Nominations are announced, Marcus trips up and so does Sree saying they didn’t nominate Halfwit. Later Halfwit is getting annoyed with the others talking in the bedroom and keeping him awake. Whilst he’s in the Diary room whining about it to BB, Cairon and Marcus(?) attempt to prank move his mattress to the toilet room. Some of the others think thats a bit immature and mean and bring it back out. Sree also comes to Halfwits defence (after earlier in the day sorting out their dramas with each other for now it seems) and talks to BB about how he thinks Cairon is immature.
  • BB calls all housemates to the table and doubles the prices on the shopping list for the noms talk breaches, including reading out Sophia kindof slagging off Saffia as trying to get in with the entertaining ones like Charlie to get further in the game kinda thing. Saffia is fed up and tells BB she wants to leave. After Saffia interrupts Sophia and Lisa’s conversation at the Bus Stop and it turns into a bit of an ugly argument, Saffia confirms she wants to leave and walks.
  • A Bit later Sree also gets into a bit of a shouting match with Cairon after he brings up he doesn’t like Siavash’s swearing and how they refer to women sometimes. BB calls Cairon to the diary room to caution him about seeming aggressive and getting out of hand and to calm down.
  • The next day Sree gets a bit of a talk from some of the others to prop him up, including Siavash, (and later Sree and Cairon shake hands) but Siavash also mentions if Sree really wants to go, let them nominate him, which earns him a very tall dunces cap and placard to wear during the eviction and rest of day.
  • Kris and Dogface (Sophie) seem to be really going for it now and stealing a few smooches and stuff during the day. BB calls them into the diary room and relays them things they both said earlier about not being really each others type that much and reminds them of the ‘no fake relationships’ house rul, if they wish to continue with whatever is going on. LOL.
  • Sophia is evicted, but before she leaves, Halfwit and Lisa get a bit huffy with each other after Halfwit has a frustrated moment with the way Lisa is whining about having to stay at the sitting room when Sophia leaves (hello, its the same as they did in BB6, which actually allows for the evictee to get out without delay from the others holding the door open, so Freddie had a point in just make it a good sendoff in the sitting room then, sheesh, haha). I think it was just the abrupt tone he had with her that got Lisa more annoyed too but they ended up smoothing it out.
  • Karly also had a big eye roll moment and bitch to BB in the diary room over Marcus talking about what the possible role casting could be for some of them, like Sophie and Karly were ‘pieces of meat’ which fair enough comes off as tactless, also trying to explain how ‘underdog’ doesn’t usually come as an insult rather its someone to root for kinda thing.

  • Other guests on BBLB included Boyz II Men, a pregnant Emma Willis, Lil Chris, Dr Tomas Chammoro-Premuzic was back with a segment on IQ, Dr Funke. Lee Kern had a few more roving reporter VT’s including visiting a wax museum and a day out with Rachel (BB9). The Quiz of the Decade had Science (BB6) and Michelle (BB5). They also had ‘Johnny Blue Eyes’ a fashion expert go and do a VT at Siavash’s wardrobe.
  • A bit of a change for the Eviction interview this season is that its done as a panel with two guests that can question the Evictee after Davina gets the first little segment. This week it was Dom Jolly and Judy James, and they didn’t hold back. I wasn’t sure about how it’d go at first, but its something a little different and it flowed fairly well I thought.
  • One thing was that as Davina now also hosts Big Mouth straight after (guests this week John Bishop and Tina Malone, with intro/outro musical number by Kid British ‘Our House is Dadless’ which samples Madness’ Our House. Brian Belo also did some short VT appearances) Sophia got shown the nominations on there. It was also a bit awkward TV as they brought out Saffia to sit by Sophia, but I also get the feeling perhaps they could’ve been told to play it up a bit as later did I see they shared a hug in the outro? haha. It’s also speculated that Not being up for Kris playing the field etc etc might’ve factored into Saffia wanting to leave and leave him to it with Sophie apart from the stoush with Sophia but she denied it. (although it does seem a bit like why not stick it out to see if Sophia got evicted? hmm oh well that was her choice).
  • It’ll be interesting to see if they have something in mind for Saffia’s potential replacement or they’ll hold off for now.

    Onto the next few episodes!

I had completely forgotten that in BB10 there was a panel of interviewers - it definitely wasn’t to my taste at the time.

Big Mouth and Little Brother had ample opportunity for other people to ask the housemates questions. When they are fresh out of the house, it should have been one-on-one time with Davina.

So much creative renewal was required for BB10, but the only thing that didn’t need meddling with seemed to be the only thing they chose to.

Yeah I'm kinda in two minds about it atm, It's cool that they're trying to jazz it up a bit, but also depending on who is on I guess and what kindof value they add if the immediate post eviction interview is the best place for it we shall see as it goes on.

As mentioned some of this might have been better off as part of BBLB or Big Mouth directly after. Maybe even just having them in the Eviction audience for some brief questions at the very end of the interview (like they did during Celebrity Hijack for example as questions from the audience) might have worked better and still allowed Davina much more direct focus as per usual instead of having the guests awkwardly off to the side looking on for the first little segment I dunno.

BBUK10 Week 2 Done:
  • Theres a token task which had 2 Housemates (Charlie and Cairon) in a 2 part bull suit blindfolded in the task room being directed by Siavash from the main house watching with the others, to knock over racks of plates. They had to smash at least a certain number of red plates to pass, which they did. On BBLB Charley (BB8) had a go at this guiding Zoe Salmon around a course set up outside.
  • Noirin is getting fed up with having to reapply her glasses and moustache drawing on her face. Marcus attempts to bring her to the Diary room to bargain with BB but no success. Noirin raises the idea of a hunger strike. Halfwit chimes in wanting to be naked and just wearing a towel around in solidarity. Lisa thinks its stupid and urges Noirin not to do it, which stirs up a bit of an argument in the bedroom as Lisa chides Halfwit and Angel for encouraging Noirin while Marcus tries to talk Lisa down saying its playing into conflict for the show that they’re clashing over the whole Noirin having to draw on herself. BB calls Lisa to Diary room to calm down while Marcus tells the room he thinks the world of each of them. He and Lisa make up the following day.
  • Sunday’s token task was a marathon dancing task for six of them (Marcus, Noirin, Karly, Rodrigo, Sree, Dogface) dressed as flowers in pots. They had no idea how long the expected time was (it was put in. a closed Venus fly trap for them to read after they agreed to stop. They ended up passing having stopped 2 hours past the expected time.

  • Kris and Charlie play a prank on Halfwit, hide and seek but they dont look for him. He ends up getting a nap hiding half behind his bed in the bedroom though. Karly chats with both Kris and Dogface and tells them both that she thinks the other seems pretty genuine. She also tells Cairon not to make himself look bad by snapping at Sree a bit this week.
  • Angel takes it upon herself to ‘prove it can be done’ by doing the fasting strike herself, intending for 3 days of only liquids and glucose. She clashes with Rodrigo again though as he points out that she shouldn’t keep going on about how it’s ‘healthy’ and sending the wrong message to impressionable viewers of the show. Angel might just mean something like intermittent fasting, or remember how you used to hear about the charity event 40 Hour Famine all the time back in the day (and IIRC didn’t the BBAU 2001 & 2002 housemates do it as a mini task?) but also Rodrigo has a point that some people watching don’t have the knowledge about doing it the ‘right way’ or about glucose whatever so they get the wrong idea and it could exacerbate problems like body image/anorexia etc.
  • Angel also was doing morning nude swims, and the others worry about her having enough energy for the shopping task, and/or collapsing and needing to be taken out of the house and the game. Although Siavash questions whether ’soup’ is still eating, and she’s been drinking things like mayonnaise mixed with water and crushed up lentils, the cooked pasta water leftover that Charlie was making, etc. Nevertheless, as her fast stretches into a 4th day, BB calls her in to check up and tell her she’s being monitored and that BB will only end Noirin’s face markings when BB sees fit, and not as response to any other action from the housemates. Later on though Angel comes in to tell BB she’s made her point and will resume eating solids the next day.
  • Nominations: Theres a big tie at second (Halfwit is way out in front); but Sree’s vote for Cairon pushes him ahead and its Halfwit and Cairon up (when noms are announced its a bit of a shock to the hm’s that Cairon’s up). Karly and Dogface were funny imitating a few of Halfwit’s mannerisms. Later he;’s singing ‘Foggy Day (in London) to Angel. Also having some political discussions with Charlie and Rodrigo.

  • The shopping task is another ‘learn a choreographed routine’ task - this time its an abridged version of ‘Me ‘Ol Bam-Boo’ from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), They choose a lead dancer (Charlie, maybe as he was teaching Kris some Girls Aloud routines earlier) and the rest are in 3 coloured sections of 4 doing different parts of the routine with hats and bamboo staffs. Sree and Marcus arc up at each other over Marcus telling Sree not to start fucking around while they are practicing (as the task is also judged on rehearsal efforts, and Sree was fluffing around a bit during the flower pot task). Later when they are rehearsing lookie who we have in the Yellow team - Marcus and Sree together with Halfwit and Angel, and Sree’s throwing off Marcus trying to count them in. He also later walks off to lounge with the blue team whilst the others are rewatching the DVD, which annoys Rodrigo and Marcus again.
  • They end up passing the task, Charlie made a few slight errors being part of al the sections mainly, but they practiced well and it wasn’t substantial. They order several disposable cameras in the shopping list, and Cairon/Siavash draw smiley faces on each others asses and take a photo with Kris face between them (between them mooning, not … you know what I mean LOL).

  • Another major storyline this week was Sree and Noirin. He’s been getting pretty smothering and confessed to her early in the week that he fancies her but also really values her friendship. Noirin has chats with the others and tells him she just wants to keep it as friends between them and avoid leading him on, but then again its still not really assertive enough in some peoples eyes and it’s like she dosent want to appear too harsh/forceful and come off looking like an asshole. (it’s kinda giving similar vibes to Craig and Anthony in BB6 in some ways, whilst the friendship between Charlie and Kris this season is not. Furthermore in the way that Sree has been spending a lot of time exclusively with Noirin lately and feeling the need to stick up for her when it came to Marcus seeming to come across a bit sleazy and lecherous like Karly has been pointing out, trying to pressure Noirin into flashing him a bit of tit in exchange for a can of cider.
  • I think Marcus is also sometimes a bit hard to read like sometimes he comes across mature, other times theres what Karly appears to be seeing, not sure how to take IYKWIM. Anyways as the week goes on, Noirin gets a bit over Sree being clingy and attempts to explain to him she needs her space. She’s also been hanging around with Marcus and they’ve been kindof stirring up Sree (as have Siavash and Cairon) over his crush on Noirin.
  • It comes to a bit of a head on the Friday during the eviction, after they’ve tried having a ‘leave each other alone day’ when Sree attempts to dish it out to Marcus sitting with Noirin but cant take them stirring him up back. After the eviction, (It’s Cairon out, Vanessa Feltz and Iain Lee were on the panel this week) Sree wants to try and talk to Noirin again but gets Lisa to act as Intermediary to get Noirin to come outside, which she finds high school and like Lisa’s mollycoddling Sree (although tbf Lisa’s also told him to lay off and let her do her own thing/stand up for herself) and he should come to Noirin himself as she’s not going to talk to him until she’s good and ready. It’s getting a bit ridiculous now. hmmmmm.
  • The others also get Angel a bit upset again by insinuating that Angel may have hidden/drank 5 cans of cider but Halfwit finds they’ve overlooked them already in the fridge. Later Chalie is a bit tipsy and mucking around with the others in the bedroom.

  • BBLB: for Quiz of the Decade they had ex hm’s including Saskia (BB6), Lisa (BB7), Gerry (BB8) and Bubble (BB2, who also played out the Sunday ep singing ‘You spin me round’ with the band). Sylvia (BB9) also popped up as did Craig (BB1) who was also in a VT at a BB9 themed party featuring other ex hms that Sophia was sent to.
  • Iain Lee took a look at BB Albania (also had the host of the Albanian BBLB equivalent on the phone) and They had Kate Quilton doing an internet meme round up. More talk about Twitter and Davina getting a lot of followers, I recall 2009 being when Twitter really started taking off in the celebrity sphere.
  • They did a ‘Heli Cam’ flyover with a drone/mini helicopter twice this week, one time with Davina coming out to watch the housemates notice and wave. Surely they wont do it again for a while I’m guessing because unlike Bunny/Gnome etc cam its totally obvious and the housemates must think its strange they’re not asked to come inside and not interact with it.
  • Caprice (CBB3) was on alongside Richard La Ruina a kindof dating expert, also had Australian singer Lenka who had a song ‘The Show’ that did quite decently although I probably couldn’t call to mind any of her other songs readily I’d say. They also had Mario & Lisa (BB9) on doing a push up challenge and they’re still not married. They had Victoria Hollingsworth about the evolution of the BB House, and Rav Wilding back on from Crimewatch playing a ‘criminal records’ game with some surprising answers!
  • Big Mouth had Terry Christian (CBB6) and Jamelia on. They made up Brian Belo in a Siaveash-esque outfit by his styling team, and sent Saffia and Sophia on a VT out in the field for mediation style ‘Bair Bitch’ project which was funny but also again I think it could possibly have been a bit put on. Rapper Lethal Bizzle was the intro/outro act and Cairon even got a few freestyle bars out otherwise he came across a little hard to get much out of and a bit wet blanket I thought. Lets see if he’s a bit more back in his groove by Sunday’s BBLB interview appearance.

    Onto the next few episodes!

Side note Channel 4's scheduling blocks this season, I noticed that in CBB6 they started bumper sizing Tuesday's BBLB episode length to 45 ish minutes to match Sunday. now in BB10 it seems Sunday, Tuesdays and Friday's are all bumper sized. Interesting Wonder what was usually in the schedule after it those days they've got some extra slot time to allocate. Hmm.

The shopping task is another ‘learn a choreographed routine’ task - this time its an abridged version of ‘Me ‘Ol Bam-Boo’ from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)

I think producers around the world were loving the choreography tasks at that point. I think it was Argentina that has set a trend with their "Ok, Go"-recreation and then multiple other Big Brothers did it as well (like the UK in the previous season). And all of these were received so well that there was increase in these kind of tasks all over the world. Germany even went a step further and got rid of the weekly tasks for the 9th season and would only do semi-regular choreography tasks.

I'm not sure but think the UK has more coming up as well but none of them are as memorable and iconic as the "Ok Go"-one.

It was probably Friends repeats. BBLB moved from 7.30pm to 6pm at some point in the George Lamb era. I remember the eviction shows being extended but didn’t realise the nomination night ones were as well. Wonder if they were to make up for the hour a week of Big Mouth that was lost.
