Alone Australia

That is so true. I thought they had to go to have 2 weeks preparation before starting.
I think it will be more interesting when they are 3 people left, usually they try harder
I haven’t watched ep 6 yet but yeh, they seem to be having a lot of difficulty this year. That hunter with the bow seemed too eager. Easy for me to say though, but yknow If you know enough about deers etc they have super sensitive smell. If they smell you they’re not coming within 500m of you. You have to be prepared to spend a whole day in a ditch covered in mud to reduce any scent to get that close to them. Wet droopings just means they passed by, not necessarily an indication they’re coming back soon. I think the most effective (but sad) way is to setup some kind of trap in that environment. The woods there are impossible to traverse quietly.

The fishing side is also so difficult with having to be watching the rod at all times in case you catch an eel. Also Really makes it hard on them to lose so many hooks when there are so many eels there. I guess you gotta try go with floats as eels tend to stick to the bottom (don’t they?)

Traps are out because they might accidentally catch/kill native birds, so that's why nobody has set snares. Considering the potential bounty of food, the restrictions are making it much more difficult than I thought. Hope somebody bops another possum (or better, a deer or pig or something) soon. And if they need to get their fishing lines further out, ping them out attached to an arrow. Make a boat. Anything!

Yeah, I been waiting for a boat to appear. Or at the very least, an expression or thought of building one!!

Do you think they’re restricted from building one?

Might be tricky because they can only use dead fall or driftwood, and can't cut nice straight branches etc of trees. The rules are set by the local iwi (tribe) who oversee conservation in the area. e.g. I don't think catching eels is against the law in NZ (was a common activity when I was a kid)... but the iwi don't permit it in this area.

Yes the restrictions are too many. How can they survive?
It is true that they are loosing many hooks with the eels they catch. Wouldn't the eels die with the hooks tearing their inside anyway?
Not being able to cut branches (sigh) Life is hard for them that is for sure

My winners pick right now is Andreas, with Tamika coming in second. Rick hasn’t been successful enough in catching food, but if he does become successful and his shoe problem gets sorted out, that could change.

I like Krzysztof message in the last episode re neuro diverse. But I feel like making rope might be not such a useful thing.

Sucks that they are losing hooks so much. By the way, @l.a.r.a I think someone said the hooks are biodegradable, but I personally can’t imagine how that hook stuck in its mouth is going to dissolve in a time that doesn’t cause any eels distress, if that’s the case that’s amazing!

I hope it is, but people don't seem to think about the pain they inflict when fishing, because fish don't scream :(

I just took down notes to reflect on who was shown etc in each episode on what day as well as major events..

Episode 7
Day 23
tamika
kryzstof
rick
andreas

day 24
tamika (catches trout)
suzan (finds long dead possum)
kryzystof (catches eel)

day 25
suzan

day 26
tamika
andreas (catches trout)

day 29
(storm)
rick
andreas
rick
andreas
tamika
kryz
suzan
tamika
[etc]

Ok so that was fun, some rough weather! Now all those open air shelters are not so great after all. They seem so unprepared for bad weather!

Also interesting that many seem on the verge of asking to tap out during that storm . They don’t see the risks that the rescue team would need to put themselves under in such weather.. Do they just think the rescue team is like from in the movies or what?

Actually those storms are really pretty darn risky for everyone involved.

I'm enjoying Tamika catching so many trout! Also love her driftwood shelter with its internal firepit. Strange to see so many with just tarps, more or less, before that enormous storm and cold change. I kind of wish the show was edited differently. I don't like having all the early episodes focus on a few contestants, and the rest dribbled in over the following episodes - so we never see the location picking, setup of camp, and thoughts around such of some contestants, and see more of those who end up tapping out early. I want a bit of everyone's first days making camp in ep one.

I completely agree with you Melore. I don’t know how later US seasons edit it but from the first two seasons I saw i sorta got the impression that it was more balanced, not 100% coverage , but in season two I didn’t feel like we were seeing too little of someone important that would be a focus later on.

It’s a bit annoying that Im there wondering how and why they setup the way they did. And those people are now pivotal to the footage as at episodes 6-8.

Another little gripe I have is that they don’t show you their individual locations on a map. I like to have that put into perspective rather than a pixilated google earth zoom into the general vicinity of a large lake. Maybe they have reasons for not showing? I figured that if anyone could be bothered enough they could start to work out their locations relative to one another just by noting the distance between each contestant being X km away, and then triangulating all that lol.

To be fair, if, like in the first Aus season, several people tap in quick succession within the first few days, they have no choice but to show content from them as a priority in the first couple of episodes. And if they showed all 10 contestants in the first episode they'd each get four minutes of footage, and it would be confusing learning who is who. It'd be a dog's breakfast. There's always going to be a degree of 'X will probably tap tonight' because of the focus on them. Perhaps if the episodes were longer they could mitigate that.

I was so disappointed with this season, and it limped to the finish line last night. I'd held high hopes for the hunting in NZ but instead it was the opposite. Bugger all good content from the contestants, just starving until their bodies gave out. Just sad to watch people wasting away, too weak to even leave their shelters.

Shame :( What could they do there? Nothing to eat, they couldn't last and we didn't get to see what they were capable of doing. What's the point if all they can do is lie down to save energy, it is just how long can you survive without eating. Very disappointing. They were admirable to be able to last that long. The least the show could provide is that they can eat, ok maybe difficult but a possibility to eat at least. Maybe next one they will get it right :)

Great to see the winner's shelter properly in the final. I really enjoyed the reunion.
Yes the reunion was good but sad to know that they were is such bad health they needed hospitalisation and to recover. Where were the medical team to allow such deterioration of their bodies?

They get medical checkups more regularly as time progresses. They should have been aware of the condition of the final two, but it seems like it caught them off guard, not being able to get the winner's loved one on site to deliver the good news. In the US show it's normal for it to be 2-3 days after the second place person taps... but in this case the winner was clearly too sick to wait that long. So they (and the viewers) got robbed of that moment. Which pretty much summed up the season really.

Just finished the reunion show tonight… Hamish Blake is a great host, Im so proud of him, honestly he is one of the best hosts in the country at the moment.

Yes the season really did drag. They all had such a hard time with so many rules out there. Honestly to make it 63 days out there in those conditions is an incredible achievement. We should not underestimate how immensely difficult that is.

I was happy with the winner as well. That top 5 or 6 have incredible power of the mind. Such inspiring people. Enjoyed hearing Kryzystof’s stories and how those things all helped him to get where he did. I enjoyed the cast in the end this year much more than the first season.

I liked that he has a genuine enthusiasm for the show. He's like a little eager beaver lol. Much better than Amanda Keller last year. I don't know what they were thinking.
