2016 Today I...

%€$&@?#% Mazda Australia!!!

So a few weeks ago my 7 month old Mazda 6 got rear ended by some teapot in his 03 Suzuki Vitara 4wd. Not a huge crash as you can see, everything still perfectly driveable but the bumper is trashed as is the beaver panel behind it, plus the boot lid is bent a bit.

I get it assessed and booked into my insurers recommended repairer. I have to wait 2 weeks for them to have time to do work on it and in order to drop it off in the morning actually have to take a half day leave from work as I couldn't make it to my school before the first bell!

All seems good and the car should be ready in 5 days... But halfway through the day, I get a call from the smash repairers and they tell me that Mazda Australia have sent over the wrong model bumper (from Melbourne). It's for a 2013/14 Mazda 6 not the 2015 which is slightly different due to some mid-model changes. So... It doesn't fit

Ok, so how long to get the right bumper sent over? I'm figuring a day or so on overnight courier... No. Apparently there is only ONE Mazda parts import supplier for the ENTIRE OF AUSTRALIA (a country only 2% smaller than the lower 48 States of the USA) and there isn't another 2015 Mazda 6 rear bumper in the entire country at the moment. We've had 3 drops of rain in the last weeks and there's been a rash of rear-enders nationwide.

So it has to be ordered in from Japan and will take between 2 - 4 weeks!!! So I'm looking at mid-May now before I can get my car fixed. It was going to get repaired nice and conveniently during my 2 term break from work (school teacher), but now it's going to be getting fixed mid term with all the inconvenience that entails.

Well, as I said, at least it's driveable and I still have 96% of a new car, but really, for crying out loud Mazda Australia! With winter coming it doesn't occur to you to stock up on spare body parts??..?!

*goes off muttering further dark and nasty words about Mazda's service and parts division*

@Mr Stickyfingers I am so thrilled for you. As I read your post I got more and more excited for you. I never realized how much I took the colours around me for granted. Hearing your story makes me appreciate them all over again. I reckon you've just got the best value for $500 of your whole life.

Enjoy all your new discoveries - can't wait to hear your response to the beach and mountains and pastures.

God bless!:)  :roflmao: :joyful: :geek: :angelic:

@SeanE I had something similar once with a Chrysler Neon. Someone tried to break into it by smashing the window. Put it in for repair and the only window in Australia got broken in transit. Had to wait weeks for a new one. I feel your frustration.

...thankyou very much QTKT... I live beside The Blue Mountains in Windsor NSW and guess what?... they really are Blue!... I thought that it was just a name but it is true lol!... I have to be honest with you... I'm dreading the grandkids coming around... there are 19 of them and I can already imagine how many 'what colour is this and what colour is that' questions will be asked lol!... I am really truly amazed at the range of colours of all around me... I'm like a little kid watching a Magic Show Pantomime or something... on the Internet at night I've been trying to think of things to look up to see what colour they are...

...I have been looking a lot at the details of flowers in my garden like I never have before... they are simply so beautiful in their colours... I've always loved gardening and can now see the true magnificence of them in all their glory... (I could only see the red and yellow in them before)... as you say QTKT... "I never realized how much I took the colours around me for granted"... my darling beautiful wife and others are now saying the same...

...as I said in my previous post... I have been looking at the paintings of various artists to see their paintings for the first time in full colour... Leonardo Da Vinci / John Constable / Vincent Van Gogh / Rembrandt / Vermeer / Suerat just to name a few... truly glorious work to look at...

...I was playing on my XBox at one stage to see what difference it would make for me while playing various games... I am currently playing 'World of Tanks' and could never differentiate between a tank and the surrounding background for instance... I had to rely on the tank moving to see it basically and I was always blown up so easily lol!... now I can see them easily and I actually win at times believe it or not lol!... man what a difference...

...we may go for a drive tomorrow up in The Blue Mountains to a lookout up at Kurrajong just so I can look out across the the full extent of where we live at Windsor and it's surrounding countryside just so I can take it all in... it should be fabulous... (we have too much to do today)... I'll let you know how it goes... I can't wait as you can imagine... lol!... thanks for your post QTKT... as I said... this world truly is wonderful... your boss did a great job in creating it and then went one step further and added colour to it just so I can discover it all now... bravo!... lol!... cheers.

This chart is interesting in trying to relate.

I do a little bit of infrared photography (not my image) and everything is remapped and different.

That's awesome news @Mr Stickyfingers
I have no idea what it would be like not to see the full spectrum of colours, but it's exciting that you are experiencing them for the first time.
Time to watch some Doctor Who so you can experience every shade of Dalek :p

...hahahaha!... soooooo funny!... I never thought of that but I've checked that out Meglos and the Bronze Daleks are the best for sure... those 'new' fat Daleks look even more gross than they did before... thank God that they have gone eh?... lol!... cheers.

...I was in the 'Moderate Deutan' range Witty which is obviously in the 'Deuteranopia' section I'm guessing... it's amazing that modern technology has enabled people to see colour again... I remember when I was a kid and my Doctor in England said in the 1960's that it's a shame that they can't just invent a pair of glasses to fix colour blindness... to think that it has taken 50 something years for that to happen is amazing... that Doctor was way ahead of his time methinks!... if he is still alive today he must be thinking something like... "well how about that!... they actually did it!"... technology truly is awesome isn't it?... cheers.

I'd seen a few reaction videos of youtube of people trying these glasses for the first time, I'm glad you got to share that experiece @Mr Stickyfingers!

...there are quite a few videos on Youtube with peoples first reactions to seeing colour for the first time oddjob and each one of them reacts differently... (I haven't put one up though)... my reaction was like a million bits of information going into my brain at the same time... almost as if Time was going a tad bit slower than usual... it was such a strange feeling... but so enjoyable... I was handling it quite well until I saw the colour of my sweet darling wife's eyes... it all then caught up to me and overwhelmed me and I blubbered like a little sooky-lah-lah... lol!... it was a great experience though... I loved it!... cheers.

...my lovely wife and I did go up to the Kurrajong look-out up in The Blue Mountains today so that I could see all the countryside around where we live from up high but it was drizzling rain and all cloudy and miserable unfortunately... my darling wife said something like ... "it's all grey and miserable"... I responded with something like... "welcome to my old world!"... lol!... the Mountains are only a 29 minute drive from our house so I'll go up on a nice sunny day with bright blue skies when it happens and may even post a photo... oh well... better luck next time Sticky lol!... cheers.

...one more thing... I swear that a chocolate bar that I was eating yesterday tasted even better than usual because I knew what it's colour looked like!... (sadly though... it's colour wasn't too dissimilar to my poo that saw later so there's good and bad in knowing what some colours are I've realised)... but still... cheers.

I think it is amazing, that 'they' can work out what colours a dogs see!

@Mr Stickyfingers that is seriously so amazing - i didn't realise you were colourblind but wow what an amazing experience. As a kid I learnt fish see way more colours than humans (not sure if this is even true?) and I'd try to imagine these extra colours, so cool that you effectively got to experience this.

...thanks hooleydooley... thanks jessy_girl... it is quite a daunting experience indeed... it's a little bit like when you see a young child hearing his mothers voice for the first time after a Cochlear transplant... it is quite overwhelming... I do have to tell you though that I didn't really think they would work to be completely honest... usually when something sounds too good to be true it usually is... I honestly thought that I was throwing $554 away on a hope... and when I still couldn't see the blue colour of the sky for about the first 15-20 seconds my heart sank and then bam!!!... my eyes suddenly saw the colour of the blue sky!... it was awesome!...

...but as I said... as soon as I saw the colour of my darling wife's eyes emotion took over and I teared up and went the full blubber... it seemed as if seeing all of those colours all at once had finally hit me... I imagine that my brain taking in so much information all of a sudden could not keep up with processing it so fast... who knows really?... apparently those glasses don't work for every person with colour blindness so I am one very lucky little Vegemite... after not seeing colour for going on 63 years I never imagined that I ever would in my lifetime... technology is such a wonderous thing... I so love this World... I really do... cheers.

...tonight I watched my #1 all time favourite movie 'ZULU' for the first time ever in colour... what an awesome experience... I went to a movie theatre in England with my dad when I was about 10-11 years old to watch it (one of my fondest memories)... I must have watched it about 100 times at least since then!... lol!... but seeing it in colour was just mind blowing... pure magnificence indeed... I watched 'Last of the Mohicans' about a week ago... another spectacular moment indeed too... I love seeing colour at last... the World truly is wonderful... (I still haven't seen a rainbow yet though... I've waited over 62 years or so... what's a few more days/weeks or months eh?) lol!... cheers.

That was Michael Caine's first proper film role in 'Zulu' wasn't it?

...from memory reepbot he did quite a few TV shows and movies in Britain but was only really known for those in Britain only but I'm pretty sure that 'Zulu' shot him into International stardom in which he became famous for... I could be wrong though... cheers.

...I've decided to watch 'Avatar' in full colour tonight to see just how good that looks... does anyone know of any great movies to watch for me to be enthralled?... if so I'll list them and track them down... it'll be much appreciated by me trust me... I'm going to watch that Robin Williams movie 'What Dreams May Come' too over the next couple of days... (I can't wait to see that believe me!)... as I say... any suggestions anyone?... cheers.

OMG @Mr Stickyfingers , your artistic ability/talent is all the more remarkable. It must be incredibly difficult creating what you do with colour issues.
All the stuff you do for others and images, and you have never even hinted - some things must be a challenge to see. You are such a kind and thoughtful person.
And this is wonderful that this is happening for you.

Have you seen a rainbow yet, sunsets & sunrises, and fireworks!

And some old movies that are rather spectacularly coloured, Wizard of Oz, and Gone with the Wind.
Doctor Who - what a treat for you.
