They're not. You only have your ratings recorded if you have been given a ratings box to monitor what you watch. It's only a small sample of people that have them.
This is only if you have the ratings box of course like @Poona explained
OzTAM's Time Shift Viewing service captures the viewing of television broadcast programming at a later time than the actual broadcast time in households that have devices such as a VCR, PVR or DVR.
This can include the pausing of a program as it is broadcast live and then continuing to watch it in playback mode (‘As Live’) or the viewing of a recorded program on another day but within seven days of the original broadcast (‘Time Shift’).
Only broadcast minutes played back at standard (normal) speed are included in OzTAM viewing figures; fast-forwarded minutes are not counted. This means, for example, that if a panel home plays back 25 minutes of a 30-minute program in standard speed, only those 25 minutes will be included in OzTAM viewing figures. OzTAM ratings do not include material that has been recorded but not actually viewed (played back).
OzTAM delivers two data sets each day:
- Overnight – delivered each morning. Includes ratings based on Preliminary Times for yesterday's programs that were watched as they actually went to air ('Live') or were recorded and played back by 2am ('As Live')
- Consolidated – delivered each morning (at the same time as Overnight data) for the same research day a week earlier. Consolidated data takes account of Confirmed Times as well as ‘Live’, ‘As Live’ and ’Time Shift’ viewing within seven days of the original broadcast
For example, on Monday morning OzTAM supplies Consolidated ratings for programs that aired the previous Sunday (8 days ago).
Are Overnight ratings final figures?
No, because the exact telecast times are not confirmed until the afternoon following broadcast (Confirmed times), and Time Shift viewing still needs to be added.

Last season the half way house twist ended on episode 22 and this season the pairs twist ended on episode 12.. I would imagine that just looking at this fact alone, logically this years BB is performing just over half as well as last season.

But it's in a totally different timeslot. I'm sure this has been said, but it bears repeating.
The stupid Block will be finished in three weeks, or a bit less. October 12 or thereabouts. Then BB will revert to its earlier timeslot. It may be too late, with families put off this season by the later airtime, to regain their figures to any degree. But for the later timeslot it's not performally too dismally, really.
I can't defend that one. Yes, it's pretty average.
It did win it's timeslot, but there should be more watching.
I had high hopes for the late timeslot, and I still think it's working ok for Nine, to (most nights) win the timeslots of Block and BB -- but the raw numbers certainly take the shine off BB.
Didn't Alex once say that BB had a 'core audience' of 600k and his job was to get numbers on top of that?
Hmm a little better especially in the demos last night.

I don't know... the Brownlow was pretty huge last night with almost a million viewers and it ran both before and after BB so I'm not sure if Ch 9 would be worried about these ratings. Tonight it only has Winners and Losers and NCIS to contend with so you'd *hope* their numbers will pick up.
Then again I've been screeching like a banshee from the beginning that unless they were going to use the later time slot to show more adult content, then 9 were idiots for running BB immediately after The Block let alone at that time. Sitting through that much reality content six nights a week is a big ask, especially for a culture that seems to believe primetime should end at 8:30/9 max. (I still don't get that.) Since it's now apparently a family show I'm not sure how they're expecting these families to watch. Sorry if I've missed it but has anyone been keeping track of how the replays on Go are doing the following day?
Yeah all things considered last night's ratings don't look too bad.
However I think following the Block has been an abject failure.
with consolidated figures this season is doing really well.
And Big Brother in 2008.
Is it the time slot or is it that this season is, to me, who only saw last year, utterly horrible to watch? I haven't seen other years, but, this season just has seemed mean and no fun. (Though I read people did like the dance competition.)
