Last movie you saw

Just came back from Moonlight Movies after watching the Simpsons movie with the kids. Good times... Good times :)

We obtained a whole lot of obscure (read B grade) DVDs recently, and we're halfway through "Possession" with Timothy Dalton. It's passable, because I've seen worse horror movies that are high profile (like most of the Halloween movies).

Great movie. Paris is a hole though.

Latest movie I saw was The Pledge, which I taped last week. Who could have imagined the dope smoking dude from Ridgemont High would become such a sensitive an accomplished director? I'm going to see Into the Wild at the next opportunity I get.

The Pledge = 8/10

Ever since someone told me a woman gets the crap beaten out of
her in that movie I don't feel an urge to watch it.. Whether that
is true or not...

Nicole Kidman's new film "The Golden Compass" has been described

Saw Hitman and Gabriel last night.

Hitman was good, not quite as good as The Bourne Ultimatum, but still quite an enjoyable movie. T-Bag from Prison Break is in it, plays a Russian guy, quite a shock. Also has Desmund from Lost. It's so strange seeing characters like that play such different roles.

Gabriel was a solid concept, the narrative just wasn't that strong. If you liked Blade or any of those sorts of movies you might want to check it out.

Oh wow that sounds like cool fun. Is food catered or BYO?
Fun, but not if you are single or unattached

You can do both for food but you can't BYO drinks. They are available there though.

We often go with a group of friends which is fun. Sometimes Mr TBJ & I do 'date night' there or we go as family. It is pretty versatile :)

Last night I watched "The Polar Express" for the very first time...

Quite enjoyed it... But felt there was a lot more that they could have
explored in the movie and it could have been a bit longer.

I'm sure if I were a kid I would have enjoyed it even more....

1408 starring John Cusak

The shorts looked real good so went and saw it on $9 day :D

But expected a little more. Not a bad, ghost sort of movie
Was expecting more spookiness, more of an erry feeling, but got a lot of wham bamm special effects throughout. Some of that was good, some of it was just ok.

As with a lot of movies these days, there is a little twist right at the end, which was kinda expected

7/10

All My Friends are Leaving Brisbane
Well, I live in Brisbane, so I was ready to be indulgent if the movie was no good. But there is no need. The script is WICKED, and the actors generally manage to deliver the dead-pan lines with a straight face (although I don't know how many takes it took them - Particularily scenes involving the leading mans mate 'Tyson'). The story is a gentle romance - light and sweet, there is the Brissie music, Brissie injokes , Brissie scenery that you expect from a movie made in Brisbane about Brisbane. It is Very, very, very Brisbane.
The suprise is the script is so damn funny! I am biased, but I think the jokes would be funny even in London or La Paz. The actors are talented, the cinematorgraphy includes some original ways to let the audience in on the kinks that people who have known each others characters too long to be surprised by each other have, and take as given. There is a very memorable and screamingly funny (I blush to say I did, in fact, scream with laughter) cameo where the writer acts as a guest at a wedding.
The whole thing is so extremely understated it appears ordinary. It is better at representing Brisbane than "Death in Brunswick" was for Melbourne, or "Clubland" was for Sydney.
Well worth catching

I am glad to read this review as I'm hoping to catch it and had heard nothing but good things!

Into the Wild is a staggeringly beautiful movie.
The real story and the movie might not resemble each other much at the end, but the movie ending suits the movie perfectly.
Take hanky.

Saw this today. It was very good. I've often dreamt of getting away from the rat race and living in total isolation. Jon Muir has been a big inspiration to me in this regard. The end of this film though... Such a lesson. Happiness is not real unless it is shared.

But still, the idea of contending with survival with nothing more than your two hands and head.

I loved the hippy couple. I loved the old man.

Sean Penn [thumbs up].

Went and saw Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium with my daughter tonight. We loved it. It was a really lovely movie.

Probably my only criticism would be that they took the time building up the story only to have it seem like the ending was rushed. As if they had to finishe it in the allotted time frame.
Other that that i really enjoyed it. Kids will love it.

I watched Die Hard 4 last night. Love the Bruce. :)

I watched that today..... I got the version that comes in a special
collectors tin.... Normal DVD case and all but in an embossed metal
tin with embossed raised lettering on it.

Absolutely loved it..... About equal to the very first one in the series.

Have you seen the other 3 Allican?

Only a couple of really far fetched bits that irritated me but I tread
Die Hard movies like live action comic books so you can excuse
people living when they should have died with all the punishment
they get handed to them. (in regards to the asian chick)

I haven't seen the movie (of course) but I read the books a couple of years ago, and while I wouldn't say that it was anti-god, it doesn't portray religious organisations in a particularly favourable light. However it's rather like the Narnia Books Aslan/Christ thing, you know it's there but it fits within the context of the story because it's in another world/realm etc.

I'm looking forward to the film, will be seeing it because I very much liked the books.

However I haven't seen a decent film in ages, keep meaning to go and see Beowulf but can't seem to be able get there . I wanted to see that 'Rogue' about the crocodile (I love monster movies) but by the time I got around to it, it had finished. Oh well, waiting for the dvd lol.

The only thing that disappointed me about Beowulf was some of the
CG animation felt a little too fake... Not all of it just some of it. Other
then that a fantastic film.

But that in mind films like this just don't feel the same on DVD, whether
it's the smaller screen or not enough resolution but they look a little bad
on a screen at home.. Currently I watch most of my stuff on a 19 inch
widescreen monitor and while it's got great resolution it's sometimes not
as good as it could be on a big plasma....

Ooooh Plasma screen :) That's on my christmas lust list

I've heard it on good report that The Golden Compass has an abysmal screenplay. I guess that won't matter to dummies who just like watching special effects, but to all others - you have been warned.
