So agree, But I distinctly remember the gaelan "interpretation" of french dancing so ridiculous I had to give it a viewing.
I dont why I find it so compelling except to see a man totally bereft of ideas and so completely randomly all over the shop.
Its a glorious mish-mash of unintentional confusion and humour and pure three stooges physical comedy.

Yep. I watched numerous episodes and thought yikes, a lot of this would not fly today. Especially when they'd make them perfrom accents and act as a stereotypical character. Many jokes from Fitzy and Mike that would absolutely get them "cancelled" today.

40:22 Cat and Lawson hook up in the sanctuary. Cat as HoH chose Lawson to join her in the Sanctuary and many other housemates all thought she was in the wrong for putting him in that situation, and that he too was in the wrong for saying yes. At the time I remember just thinking oh for fuck's sake there's gonna be a love rat story line every year now. Looks like BBAU was MAFS' prototype.
 

38:52 Ryan finally gets content in this episode. And I remember watching it like it was literally yesterday. He was so snarky in the Hotel Guests and staff task, was absolutely nice to Travis' face when making request and called him a "dickhead" once he was away from him. I don't like many of the tasks from the Ch9 era but this one was a bit more reflective of real life society. I can all too well relate to the housemates playing the roles of "staff". Having to be nice to customers whilst all you want is to tell them to get fucked. The $3,000 incentive was a nice touch, again added to making the task feel more like real life.

Not sure it really passed by unnoticed at the time either, especially here. It was a regular criticism and sparked a diplomatic incident with Mexico after they threw food at their flag.

During 2007 I think it was there was also an overweight ninja that would take the the 3 boxes each week. Mike Goldman would come up with a new fat joke every week for him like "binger ninja". There were many other examples. LOTS of jokes about Rima throughout FNL as well in 2008.
 
As well as plenty of gay jokes, especially in relation to contestants like David and Rob.

It was a sign of the times, too. A lot of progress has thankfully been made in the last 5 years or so, so things that were “acceptable” 10-15 years ago evidently haven’t aged well in the process.

I think it does a disservice to the society of the time to pass such things off as acceptable back then. It was the noughties, not the 70s.

Well that just perpetuates stereotypes and goes against the grain of your valid criticisms.. I was lucky enough to be awarded with a scholarship to a private school and like to think Im a well-rounded empathetic individual.

Isnt the whole discussion in this thread about stereotyping being potentially hurtful?
Otherwise you come to an opposing truth that stereotyping is acceptable which it certainly is not.
For me personally, Its important to attempt to understand the being beneath the perceived archetype before casting any kind of judgement.

That's one stereotype that's hard to see past as a Brit when you see the private schooled Oxbridge morons running, and ruining, the country.

LOL Brekkie. I appreciate that. I have some knowledge but not enough to have lived through that. Thats why I am careful and considered in making judgements unless Ive walked the same miles in my tired old tattered boots.

All I did was state a fact.
 
Another stereotype but as a Brit the words "posh" and "Australian" are rarely put together and I can't really think of a former housemate who really does tick that box but presumably if it was fodder for the FNL crew there was someone in those latter Ten seasons.

I might be misremembering this but the only person I can think of is George in I think BB 2012 who was a millionaire IIRC, but self made rather than inherited thrugh family wealth.

Despite looking like he lived in a van on the beach Jamie (BB6) went to private school and had an upper class accent.

For sure kingy. But hardly a quantifiable fact.. "Most" stereotypes are true doesnt really qualify as fact except for personal opinion. Hence the qualifier of "most" not "all". Im not saying you are wrong but its up to us, as discussed in this thread to change that generic mindset and judge people as to their own individual merits.

Cultural divide I think brekkie. Stereotyping of some sort will always be prevalent. Its the human condition of making sense of what is foreign to us. Its a way of homogenising attitudes we dont understand. Im a great beliver in judging an individual. Its pipe-dreamish but my personal philosophy which I valiantly try to adhere to.

Thank you both for an interesting discussion and sharing of ideas. This is when the forum is best and most likeable for me.
