No I'm not!

I am being thick! I really don't understand what it is about![DOUBLEPOST=1466975296]

Hm. It IS all over the news. (Yes I mean the Australian news). So I am a bit curious how you have missed it. Britain has voted to remove itself from the European Union. Which could mean the End of Western Civilisation as we (currently) know it.

I haven't missed it. I am in fact watching an update right now.

What is the European Union? And how will it mean the end of Western Civilisation?

Goes without saying!

Been facetiming one of my best friends who is travelling Europe, miss her heaps
What time is it over there?

Ask her about Brexit! Do you understand? Because if you do please explain it to me, because I really don't understand what it means.

11:16pm

I was the one who told her, she had no idea, too busy partying to notice the news :P

Scotland and Northern Ireland (and London) want to break away from 'England' and stay in europe. Do the United Kingdom could be about to Implode. France is also already talking about leaving the EU. And there sre grumblings in (I think) Italy, Holland and Scandinavia. So far...?

The split in the voting was very very different based on demographics and geography. The two main parties are now also in turmoil and essentially have no leadership. Cameron has resigned & there is an Anyone-But-Boris movement. The labour party leader has a vote of no confidence against him. The scotland leader has already requested emergency talks with brussels. She has said she will run another referendum for scotland to leave the 'united' kingdom.

What does it actually mean?!

I don't really know, an expat explained to me it was about closing the borders, but I don't really get it, but that doesn't mean much, I thought it was a bit extremist from what they were saying

Thanks for taking the time to explain. Wayne Brown would have been on a quoting "failed Year 8/drug damaged mind/she is a dullard" posting frenzy! I really appreciate you explaining it.

What actually caused it?

That question is too big for me! Arguably Brussels caused it. But argually Cameron whinged and whinged about how BAD Brussels was for Britain. And promised a referendum. And then thought 'oh Feck what have I done when he realised the ramifications and did an about face'. Basically a bit like our referendum on the republic. But probably with a much more destabilising outcome.

The news I am watching isn't really going in to detail, it just keeps saying things like "constitutional crisis" and "backlash" without going in to why. It is in no way the leading story in fact it followed a cluster of news which was led by a shooting in Townsville, then the story of a 12 year old girl in Gympie who was burned, then an update on the court date for the mum who killed her kids last year, then the Melbourne riots, then Neo nazi clashes in the US, then coalition updates, then Brexit.

Because my friends are about as bright as me, there is seriously not one word about it in my Facebook feed!

Then your assumption would be 100% incorrect.
Well, ok. I believe its not in your Facebook feed. Not in mine either. But I am actually probably getting half of my info from Australian news. (Not all, I grant you).

Its also presumably much more of a topic of conversation over here. Everyone is shocked.

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

So funny!

Do you understand it?
The BRexit? Sort off, seems that now the UK is out of the EU.... all the good things that EU did for Britain or any member country won't be happening for the UK, what these benefits are I'm still not sure tho.

Eligibility to live work in Europe. Travelling without visas and Passports. Some ability (not sure exactly to what extent) to use/have portability in things like health insurance, unemployment benefits, pension etc. of course there is also a cost to all of that. They have to 'pay' brussels for those 'priveleges'
