jessy_girl's junk food jamboree

sitting here at work feeling very holier than thou reading about strange food combos ...

(I used to like sultanas and sugar on buttered bread ... then there was drinking condensed milk out of the opened can in the fridge and thinking Mum wouldn't notice ... oh and crumbling up a small packet of potato chips (usually done by totally over the top method of stomping on the packet so it exploded at one end) and sprinkling them over my peanut butter sandwich ... my dad worked for a chip factory so we had cartons of sample sized (not for retail sale) packs of chips always handy :)

anyway the reason I'm feeling very holier than thou is I'm eating my lunch which is mixed lettuce with beetroot and carrot strips, figs, pear, cheese and last night's leftover chicken kebab ... am I being healthy or what!!!!!!????!!!!!!!

oh so we won't mention the choccie-covered blueberries stashed in desk drawer ok?

ummm and we better not mention the croissant with coffee earlier right?

oh ok so my goodness :angelic: only lasts for about a half hour window for lunch ... whats it to you!?!?!

Blueberries is a fruit, so I think you are ok there.

I used to pinch Condensed Milk tins and suckle of them in bed (I was about 10) and hid the empty cans under my bed, thinking Mum would not notice!!

Oh and fresh white bread with heaps of butter and potato chips were awesome!

Potato chips are always awesome.

Well I'll pass on your lunch thanks but I've definitely done the chip sandwiches and I've drunk my fair share of condensed milk. It's way too sweet and thick for me now but holy crap I'd eat a whole tin as a kid without thinking. Good times.

I hadn't had it since I was living at home (a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggg time ago!!!!) and had to use some in a recipe a few months ago ... BAD MOVE ... really really BAAAAAADDDDD move lol
let's just say no unused portion had to go in the fridge ;) and not something I'll buy to sit in the pantry for the next time I might need it - because there'll always be a night when I'm hitting the pantry looking for trouble! lol

I'm making hay whilst the sunshines and figs remain on the shelves ... bloody expensive at $2.50 a pop and after justifying this to myself I figure bugger it - when feijoas are in the stores here again I'll have some!! My mum has a big feijoa tree in her backyard and when I go home for visit around April I can feast on them ... sadly the ones we buy never taste as good as the ones dropping from the tree. I keep saying we must at least try to plant one in our backyard - but sadly I've never managed to convert my boys over to the dark side with regard to feijoas ...

i'm sounding like a health nut now ... did I mention I skipped dinner for potato chips, coffee and mint chocolate last night O_O got home from work and couldn't face making dinner ... so it was leftovers for the others and whatever I could find that tasted good for me!!! lol

Haha so glad you redeemed yourself at the end there.

Although I've been feeling like a wannabe health but lately by growing my own kefir grains for the probiotic goodness. It's for my gut bacteria when really I could just not eat so much crap.

I was looking after my 7 year old niece yesterday and thought this was my chance to have some Hungry Jack's for dinner, but no apparently that's "gross". I don't like getting schooled on health by a kid.

So you missed out on a mini drumstick?

oh I hear you on that one

years ago I went over to the UK to visit sister I hadn't seen for about 10 years ... she had 4 young kids at that stage ... we were driving across country to go canal boating and needed dinner ... I saw McDonalds stores flashing past ... HUNGRY!!!! bro-inlaw kept driving ... town after town flashed by ... saw at least three sets of Golden Arches from memory ... and then I asked why we weren't stopping at McD's (where at least you know what is on the menu, the toilets are inhouse and (usually) clean, kids playground sometimes attached etc etc ... even for someone without kids at that point it seemed like a no-brainer to be a perfect place to stop) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO we drove on for another hour until the moans from the kids who were starving got louder and louder ... and we pulled up outside a very greasy, horribly dirty takeway dive .... could almost inhale the filth. THEN the tantrum from youngest child started because ... they only had fizzy drink and he (and his siblings) did not EVER drink fizzy drink (OR eat McD's because it was evil unhealthy takeaway stuff) ... he wanted WATER ... do you think this dive would supply us with even a glass of tap water (which we were happy to pay for)??? nope ... so I had to go over to pub across the road, walk in there and be glared at by all the locals as I asked if THEY sold bottled water or if I could get a plastic cup of water for a child throwing a ginormous tanty!! and of course within an hour of leaving that place the kids were vomitting ... oh happy days!!! By the time we reached the canal boat and got settled in I swear I was ready to dangle each child off each corner of the boat!!!

Took me a few years to convince myself I'd ever have kids after THAT holiday!!!

and I'm now going to pick myself UP off the floor because you combined GRAINS, Probiotic and GOODNESS .. oh and HEALTH in the one sentence - are you coming down with something????!!!!

Ha yes I can relate. I should also add that my sweet little niece has participated in not one but two triathlons, but apparently we are related.

And hahaha yes I am having quite the lapse in character aren't I? It wasn't my own doing as such, they were gifted to me and I thought it was worth a try. If it's any consolation I find it seriously disgusting to consume. Oh and don't despair because today I have also eaten a delicious McDonald's apple pie and a donut and I even scored some left over hot chips, so I am still very much my usual unhealthy self.
