…MR STICKYFINGERS (sort of) BOWS OUT FOR A WHILE…

Hi Sticky, glad to hear you are making some progress.
I bet you are looking forward to not requiring hand models any more :) Take care!

...hahaha!... I won't need them anymore from now on thankfully because my hand is basically as good as it's going to get from my point of view... maybe some future foot and leg models perhaps... they still aren't up to scratch at the moment lol!... cheers.

Mr. S your progress and your positive attitude amaze and inspire me every day. Your setting goals and ticking them off one by one so quickly is just remarkable.

Plus, your house and garden sound fantastic. What a great place to go home to continue your recovery.

If physio is like physical therapy that I have had, it works just like Gemini said. I got exercises to do at home and I went in 3 times a week. I saw a woman in her office though, so maybe a hospital does fewer times a week.

The exercises at home are simple and easy to do on your own. She taught me them in her office. She gave me a printed sheet showing each exercise so I could follow them. They will be able to tell that you are doing the exercises and adjust as you improve. The real benefit of the therapist is that they can help you gradually push beyond what you might do on your own.

One more thing the physical therapy here did was some treatments with ultrasound that are supposed to help speed up healing.

Hope you are doing well today. Spring is finally coming to the northeast U.S.

...I forgot to tell you... my sweet darling wife and I used to take a daily walk around either a 3 Kilometre route around the blocks where we live or a 1.5 Kilometre route depending on circumstances... (like her 2 hip operations etc lol!)...well guess what?... for the last 3 days I've managed to walk the 1.5 Kilometre route with her!... woohoo!... soooooooooo proud!... cheers.
I LOVE your positive outlook Mr S. It makes smile when I read how much you are progressing.

You're a bloody champion.

...thankyou so much for telling me about the Physio Rose711... you really are so nice... I guess that will be the case with me... I will be given exercises to do at home more so than being at the Hospital all the time... that's okay I don't mind doing them on my back verandah at home at all... in fact I prefer it that way... it's more fun in my opinion...

...if you are interested... tomorrow I might take some photos of my garden etc and post them up for you if you would like to see them?... it's totally up to you my sweet... cheers.

...thankyou my friend... I'm glad that my positivity is rubbing off onto others lol!...

So glad to hear that you are making more and more progress with each day, @Mr Stickyfingers!

...thankyou too jessy_girl... as I said in my post above... being able to achieve those goals that I set for myself in regards to my hand may have been little news of my progress but they certainly meant a lot to me lol!... thanks for the kind words... cheers.

Please please please post photos. That would be amazing. Please also include your garden.

In the meantime, if you are at home, and need some positive thinking. This is a link to a live cam of puppies born 24 hours ago. My brother in law supports the charity. The dogs become trained as service animals for returning US soldiers. I don't know much about the training:

Sorry I haven't posted more here. I'm visiting my sister in Virginia for Easter and my brother in law has been traveling and my sister got ill while I was here. So I'm only online here and there.

I'm wishing you all the best. If you post photos I will try to post some of Virginia. I'm in the Shenandoah valley. It's beautiful.

Somehow the photo I posted ended up at the top of the post. It was supposed to go in between the two links I posted. The image is from the second link.

Watch the black one with the yellow ribbon. It was the runt of the litter and they were worried it wouldn't make it through the night last night. Like I said, they are newborns. Keep an eye on them over the next few weeks. It can only help bring a smile to your face.

In case you are wondering about sound, the dogs are in the home of an experienced volunteer and they are not sharing the sound of their home. The foundation has experienced volunteers who will help with the pups.

...Tedfthis I am really grateful to you for caring about me enough to tell me all of this... I really am... you are right about the 'not knowing' as to why I had the stroke... it really is a worry to me to be honest... as I mentioned in a previous post my GP was quite shocked that I had this stroke because I was in the best of health after a year and a half of obeying her wishes in cutting out alcohol/not eating too much sugary stuff/exercising/etc etc... I was in the best shape that I had been in for years...

...I found that article from the 'Courier Mail' that you were talking about titled "Painkillers to signal heart attack risk" on this link below...

http://www.pressreader.com/australia/the-courier-mail/20150402/281724088057702/TextView

...I'm going to print it out and show it to her the next time that I see her because I've been taking 'Panadol Osteo' tablets for quite a few years now for a back injury that I've had since I was 24 years old... as I've got older it has come back to cause me grief in older age... I've been having 'Physio' for it for a couple of years now... (to be honest I don't think that those tablets do anything to ease the pain but I'm not game to take anything stronger)...

...so once again tedfthis I thank you so very much for your concern and also for the heads up about that article... I appreciate it very much... you are a good friend... cheers.

Thanks, you're more than welcome Mr S. and believe me, you have LOTS of good friends on here. That Pressreader.com requires Facebook or Twitter, I dont use either, but by the title of it, its probably the same article. I don't like those sites that collect too much information, so I didnt sign up for a Google account. I probably have one anyway, because I use gmail as my email address.

...I just thought that I might give you all some minor little updates... (but they are major inroads for me I guess)... last night I was able to achieve two objectives that I've been trying to achieve from day one of my recovery process...

(1)... I have finally managed to touch my little finger tip with my thumb on my left hand as it is supposed to do instead of merely being able to touch any part of the finger like I was able to do before... now I can do it like so!... (it's not my hand though)...

View attachment 48686

(2)... I can finally fully open my thumb outstretched to about 45O which is exactly the same distance as my right hand!... just like this... (again not my actual hand)...

View attachment 48687

...I guess that they are not such great strides in comparison to my trying to walk as good as I used to be able to but as I have said in previous posts... baby steps...lol!... my hand is 99% back to how it used to be but the only reason that I don't say 100% is because it still lacks the strength that it used to have... (I'm working hard at trying to recover my strength but that seems to be taking a lot longer than I thought it would do unfortunately)...

...speaking of my trying to walk as good as I used to... I have managed to refine my taking of steps as I walk along... I'm not 'klonking' or 'slapping' my foot down as I walk anymore or even doing a circular motion with my foot either... it's important that I bring my leg and foot from under my hip in a swinging motion in a straight line before putting my heel down first with each step and then rolling through the foot and pushing off with my toes and then lifting my leg up and continuing the forward momentum by repeating the process over and over again... it is so damn hard to do believe me but I'm getting there...

...I'm going to the 'Physio' at the Hospital on the 20th of this month as I have said previously so I am hoping that they may be able to show me other exercises to do on top of what I'm doing now... in the meantime I'm doing as much as I can to rebuild my body strength to what it once was...

...anyhow... that's where I'm up to... but as I said before...the little inroads with my thumb and hand to what they can do may not be such big news but you did all ask me to report any part of my progress as I go along so there you have it... I am just so stoked that I can do those things now... I'm finally feeling like I'm getting back to being me again... cheers.

I think you have achieved SO much in a relatively short space of time. The 99% with the fingers is very impressive. When I had both of my knees replaced at the same time, they used to measure the angles of how much I could bend my legs backwards, they arent happy until you reach a certain angle/degree. I did LOTS of exercise and walking in the hospital, I was stuck in there for 17 days, because when they were going to transfer me to a rehab, to learn how to climb 13 stairs with crutches, I had plenty of time to practice. I could have gone home about 6 days earlier, but the Easter holidays intervened and kept me in there longer than I wanted, or needed to be. I learned how to climb the stairs, while stuck in the hospital. Within 28 days of the knee replacements date, I was walking without crutches and sticks. It sounds to me like you are taking giant steps, its good to hear/read. Rehab is all about what you put into it. The walking will come back with practice, everything seems to be connected to the brain. Did they do a scan :-)

...hey Rose711 you sweet lady... seeing that you do wish to see my garden I will post some photos that were taken 2 and 3 days ago... (I took them after I had finished trimming a few bushes into various shapes so my garden is up to scratch as I like it to be lol!)... I'll post them a few at a time until you get to see them all okay?... the reason being is that I took quite a few of them and they will take up too much room in just one post...

...that Live website of the dog and her puppies is so transfixing... while doing stuff on my computer I've had it running in a small window in the corner of my screen and just kept watching it lol!... it's great!... (I was watching some young lady cleaning the litter box and replacing the carpet at one stage lol!)... thanks for posting it...

...please post photos of the Shenandoah valley in Virginia... I'd love to see them... I can only imagine how beautiful it will be... anyhow... I'll get around to posting those photos soon... thanks for posting Rose711... cheers.

...oh wow tedfthis... I'm not really telling you too much about doing the physio side of things that you don't already know am I?... lol!... they say that knee operations are the worst ops to have because they are so painful!... kudos to you on your recovery process my friend... as with me you were/are learning to walk again...I hope that you recovered quickly my friend... when did you have that operation... recently?...

...going on these walks with my beloved wife each day is sometimes quite tiring and I struggle hard at times but it is doing me so much good... I seem to be learning to walk again a lot better by doing it than just constantly doing the exercises at home... although the exercises are more orientated towards building my strength back up rather than teaching me to walk again I guess...

...thanks for the post my friend...cheers.

...as promised here are some photos of my gardens etc for you Rose711... I hope that you like them... these are of my front yard...

DSC00432.JPG

...down the right hand side of my driveway are sandstone blocks and recycled concrete in gravel form that extends all the way down to the back yard to the plant shade house... most small plants down that side are in terracotta pots and hardly ever get weeds in them... if any weeds do get into into the recycled concrete they are so easy to pull out or to kill with weed killer...

DSC00363.JPG

...this is the other side of the driveway showing the front gardens and the urn water feature looking out from under the corner of the carport...

DSC00314.JPG

...looking from one corner across the yard... the sandstone blocks that you see running along the driveway will continue along the front of the gardens along the entire length of the grass nature strip to make it complete... a silly little thing called a 'stroke' on my part kind of stopped that little project from happening... once I'm fully recovered it will be my #1 project to do lol!...

DSC00378.JPG

...this is my most favourite plant in my front yard... I have no idea as to what it is called... (I call it 'worms')... hmmmm!... looks like I missed that damn weed amongst the Sedum on the left hand side ... (trust me that will be gone as soon as I've posted this lol!)...

DSC00371.JPG

...those pebbles in the middle of that garden bed makes it easy for us to weed those garden beds... I wanted it to sort of look like a kind of garden path type of thing...

DSC00287.JPG

...those pebbles up against the front verandah sometimes are completely covered by water in rainy down pours... it actually looks like a real creek as was my intent when I built it all... I'm in the process of making a little wooden sign to put at the end of it that will say... 'shit creek'... lol!...

DSC00376.JPG

...this is my centerpiece urn water feature... the reason for the rope being there is because that just under the surface of the water in the urn there is wire framing to prevent anything falling in and drowning in the urn... the rope allows birds to land safely and step onto the wire framing to bathe themselves in it... it's quite a sight to see them splashing in it at times...

...well there you have the front gardens... I'll post more of the rest of my yard in the next few posts... I hope that you enjoyed them Rose711... until next time... cheers.

You're from England right Sticky? Those houses and suburb, along with the hue/brightness of the daylight, look it could be from Australia.

Paradise.....? Is that you...? YOUR GARDENS ARE AMAZING, I love it!

Cheers,

...thankyou BigBrotherCritic... my back garden isn't quite as fancy but I still enjoy it as much as the front gardens lol!... I will post the back garden photos probably within my next posts on this thread... those gardens out the front were done last June methinks... I had to move tons and tons of soil and gravel by spade and wheelbarrow all by myself... it took me about 3 weeks to do from memory... as said above I still have to build that sandstone wall along the front of the garden... but that can wait until I'm up to it methinks lol!... thanks for the kind words my friend... cheers.
