What's for dinner?

No worries.

What's for dinner in other cultures is interesting lurking reading - UK one I read is all curries, and shitty meat & potatoes type meals, with a LOT of takeaway.
And awful fish they eat.
Americans feature a lot of ribs, fried stuff, fried chicken, lots of stuff with peanut butter, or peanuts and chocolate, marshmallows - with veggies, with salad.
They use some strange stuff. Pumpkin drinks:(

I lived in the US for 12 months and I know what you mean. It appears what they constitute as vegies is ONE, and it's usually broccoli! lol

GOOD ribs are awesome though I must say but when they have it with a motherload of mac & cheese - made with that horrible bright orange coloured cheese at that.. it's like a heart attack on a plate. I was lucky enough to live up in San Jose, so the mexican food there was fabulous!

Neither have the same love of Thai, or Asian stuff in general that we do. And they don't seem to have spag bol as a staple, the way every kid in Oz loves sgetti seems to be just us and italians.

Indeed, but I guess that has a lot to do with geography. They don't seem to like greek food either which I don't understand. I love a good asian meal and try to cook it as much as possible. Last night we had like a fusion style dinner last night. Just what I was fusing... not sure..lol I prepped a chicken as a split-bird and marinated it for a while in a garlic, chilli and thai basil paste I made and we had it rustic kiffler potato wedges/chips I bunged in the oven to cook at the same time. We had it with a huge salad. It was yummy. :)

Tonight, some ocean fare perhaps.. prawns and scallops... as it's warming up up this way.. may even get hubby to drag out the barbie so we can start the summer ritual of eating outside. :D

@Frankyfurt ...they look delicious!

where's the potato? Wont someone please think of the Potatoes!

LOL Such patties are usually spud based.

We ended up having mexican last night. Chilli Con Carne with tortillas and salad and a tomatillo salsa.

Tonight will be home made pizzas. I have the dough proofing now and will smack that bitch down when the time is right! lol

One will have a basil & cashew pesto base with chicken, chorizo, mushrooms and spinach leaves, and the other will hold a melange of.. I don't know right now...just some stuff. ..Will call it"supreme", I guess on a bbq or passata sauce. Again, served with salad. LOVE salad in this house.:)

What do you do with truffles you fabulous cooks?
Aldi has them in tiny jars for $7.99, you get a couple of little blacks knobs in salty water.
I haven't eaten or cooked them before, would like to get maximum flavour, but just a way of tasting a small amount.
Can you eat them raw?

I KNOW!! I got some when I saw them at that price!! *happy dance*.

They can be used in a lot of ways. They are good in a risotto, fabulous with sea scallops(any seafood really), even really good in a swanky mashed potato to serve with say.. Beef Fillet? Awesome in scrambled eggs too. You can also put a couple of thin slices in a bottle of EVOO to make your own truffle oil or even include a little of it in a sauce or gravy (jus)

The thing is though, you use them sparingly as it's a strong flavour... a little goes a long way. Best way to prep them is with a fine microplane, whether it be grate them, or to thinly.. as in THINLY slice them. When I use them that way, it's to "posh up" say scallops with pancetta on pea puree.

The last time I used them was in a "like" entree I created for a dinner party we had, with scallops, a small watercress salad, beetroot chips, caviar and a spiced pumpkin puree. I made a truffle and balsamic reduction to dress the dish.
