I listened to this interview with the executive producers and it kinda explains the angles taken as of late..

The producers seem to have pretty childish, unevolved, simplistic views of people from what I heard. They discuss peoples' looks and the producer pushing one person to win and it really shows that they're putting too much of their personal intention into the production without giving a well balanced, neutral view. Just give it a listen.
Somebody wrote that in the interviews for contestants, the producer Alex was asking his fellow female producers if the guys where 'hot'. Explains a lot of things.
