2014 Ratings Thread

I listened to this interview with the executive producers and it kinda explains the angles taken as of late..

The producers seem to have pretty childish, unevolved, simplistic views of people from what I heard. They discuss peoples' looks and the producer pushing one person to win and it really shows that they're putting too much of their personal intention into the production without giving a well balanced, neutral view. Just give it a listen.

Somebody wrote that in the interviews for contestants, the producer Alex was asking his fellow female producers if the guys where 'hot'. Explains a lot of things.
 
What are the chances of the show being renewed? I know that overall viewers are down but the show is still doing well in the demos. Would that be enough to sustain it though?

The show is still making more money than it costs.

I guess it will all depend on how the negotiations go with Endemol and how expensive it is to renew the license. Also, whether Nine have some other format they think could do better.

All that being said, trying to understand Aus Network TV execs heads is a sport all in itself.
 
This is why messing with the start times and pretending those watching a Grand Final are actually watching BB makes no sense as the people the figures really matter too aren't going to be fooled by the figures released the next day.

I know they do this purposely to fudge figures. But I really don't think that's what happened on grand final night. The Rabbitohs win meant the post show stuff did go much longer than expected.

Truly live stuff does go over unexpectedly. Same can't be said for the Block.

are we expecting a drop-off because it isn't following the Block now?

Given:
Two days without BB
New Intruder
Mr Hinch

I would have thought a spike in viewers and not a decline, again could this be because it isn't getting the flow on from the Block?

So true. Tonight will be a good test with it starting one hour earlier! I'm almost positive that if ratings increase dramatically they will quickly move all episodes to 7:30!

Pretty poor, getting walloped by a repeat of The Big Bang Theory. I've got nothing against Americans, but being born in the UK, they have a totally different sense of humour to me, they even spell humour different to me too. I just dont find American sit coms funny. I like some of their drama series, Homeland, Person of Interest and The Blacklist, but I gave Game of Thrones away, as I could never remember who was on which side, fighting who and heading where and too many Kings.

If this is the intelligence of viewers, no network is going to stick its neck out and bid for franchises. The start and finish times, being all over the place, have undoubtedly had an effect on what was a pretty loyal BB following. Tonight is the key in my opinion, if it doesnt rate at 7 30 p.m. its finished.

Unfortunately, I can't see it happening unless it gets well over a million viewers, when a Big Bang repeat got over a million.

Ok let me start by saying that I don't think last night's ratings were very good.. at all.

The only small victory was coming first in its timeslot in the 16-39 demo.

However in the other two demos, it was beaten by the Blacklist and out of the top 5 completely. @IRT5 might be able to tell us how far out of the top 5.


...But it was not 'walloped' by a repeat of TBBT. Big Bang is on the same network in an earlier timeslot. They are not competing against each other.

I don't think tonight is the key though. I think if Nine want it back to get the demo ratings that it has smashed on most night (last night not included) then they may buy it again for the later timelot again next year.
 
I may even be wrong with that small victory... What time did The X Factor finish? So it may have come second in the 16-39demo if X-Factor ran past 8:30

Well, the Big Bang Theory REPEAT rated 3rd and scored 1,189,000 viewers and Big Brother rated 18th and scored 637,000 viewers.
In my books, thats WALLOPED. People TURNED OFF after the Big Bang repeat, in droves. You are flogging a dead horse bleachy_dude, until 9 actually give BB a designated time slot, similar to previous years. By the ages of the housemates, they arent aiming at a different demographic, but by putting it on at a later time, thats whats happening and people are turning OFF.

I see what you are trying to say.

My point is that Nine don't want BB success to come at the expense of TBBT - it's the jewel in their crown. I know you're not trying to say it should come at the expense either. It's just that in my eyes, they aren't competing.

BB didn't do so well last night, not in competition with TBBT, it was in competition with XF and Blacklist.
 
Apart of me is sad that a Big Brother Intruder Special nearly ranked out of the Top 20 programs for the night and another part of me just wants to laugh in Channel 9's face for not listening to their fans. At least they learned the hard way...

Yes, its very sad. In previous years, Intruders were a big deal and were nearly always talked about as GAME CHANGERS. Unfortunately, they come in with the handicap, that the people already in the house, have laid claim to it. The "We were here first" syndrome, its OUR house, we are the ORIGINALS, they even form alliances with people that they couldnt stand, before they were disrupted. Then its banish the Infidel intruders, at the first chance they get. Now they sneak an Intruder in, in the dead of night with no 'LIVE" show or any fanfare at all. Personally, I thought the Sleeping Beauty entrance went down like a lead balloon and wasnt fair on Marina, who already starts behind the 8 ball as an Intruder. Leo got a lot of air time, when he went in, including having to suffer Lisa's unbiased views of the housemates.
