Doctor Who

Yes, when the Doctor rejected the soldier I realised why we'd had the scenes with Danny Pink being questioned by his students, there's a definate theme there. I agree with you that it will probably cause conflict if/when Clara wants Danny to come with them. Which is good, just pretty mean to the female soldier (wikipedia says her name is Journey Blue). A little hypocritical in light of his own past which hasn't exactly been pacifist, not to mention one of his best friends being the Brigadier, and good relationships with many other soldiers, from Benton to Mike Yates to Ace.

...bummer!!!!!!!!!!... I slept through it!!!!!... I'll have to watch it tonight instead!!!!... bugger bugger bugger!!!... **Sticky frowns**:(:(:(:(:(:sorry::sorry::sorry::sorry::sorry::sorry::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops:... cheers.

LOl, that sucks Mr Sticky. I went to bed at midnight and woke up for it at about 3:40, but I had the timer set to record it anyway.

...hahaha!... I have to confess... I imbibed in a couple of rums last night and during a bout of befuddlement forgot to set the record button for it... although I slept through my alarm regardless lol!... what a dumbass!... roll on tonight so that I can watch it lol!... cheers.

Me too @stickyfingers, me too - missed it mostly.

Boohoo, I had such freaky day, my night turned into fits of sleeping & waking.
I woke up at 4.15am, net thing I know it is 5am and I missed the first half, didn't like the look of what I saw much either.

Spent a lot of yesterday in emergency, manchild burst a blood vessel internally, pissing blood, very scary.
All is well, now.

And before this I was at Ripponlea enjoying a picnic & the Wedding exhibition, gorgeous; and Darcy is in the Lake - he is freaky and looks like Gulliver, enormous.

So glad your trip to emergency had a happy ending, would have been a terrible day for you both. No wonder you didn't sleep well!! I had to google Darcy in the Lake. What a mad idea, so whimsical.

And at least there's no drama about missing the early DW showing, with the repeat at a much more civilised time. I like your idea about watching the early showing and then using the rest of the morning for the getting of fitness. When the mornings get a little lighter I might join you. Early nights on Saturdays might be tricky, but we can only hope. lol

Is anyone buying the new figurines/magazine? There's an ad for it on this page (for me). Newsagents have the first issue now for $7.99, it's Matt Smith. After that it will be $19.99, every fortnight. Be warned though, it goes on for ages (unless you just want to get random figures rather than every one).
The ad is running on TV too, it's weird seeing DW on commercial channels.

Sooooo tempted. But I'm trying to declutter my house and life at the moment so I will have to resist. If you are buying, let us know the quality ... I may change my mind.
You must have a pretty good collection of DW stuff!!

I was so pleased to see you this morning. If you're going to get up at a ridiculous time for DW, you want a fellow fan/friend to endure the pain with you, lol.

...wow kxk!... it's good to hear that things kind of worked out well for you at the end there...

...I'm guessing that I may be in the minority here but I liked this episode quite a lot... the idea of actually going inside a Dalek is so intriguing to me!... what a great concept!... seeing the x-rayed inner details of the Dalek was so cool!...

...what would it be like to be inside a container of pure hatred?... it would be such an eerie feeling to be there... the Dalek antibodies I found to be a terrifying concept... imagine splashing around in a Dalek's stomach juices?...

...I'm enjoying Capaldi as The Doctor... his humourless no-nonsense take on the role is good to see for me... it's such a change!... Clara slapping him across the chops was a surprise but what she was trying to convey to The Doctor set him straight again... her character had a lot more substance in the role this time around... she was definitely the voice of reason that Capaldi's doctor is missing at the moment until it develops further...

...it seems to me that the writers of the show are trying to show us that the new Doctor is still floundering in his role rather that just being able to jump from Tennant to Smith without skipping a beat... when Matt became the new Doctor he just waltzed into being the clever Doctor as per usual... at least it's good to see that the change from going to Smith straight to Capaldi isn't like that!... I'm liking to watch him struggle in this...

...when characters are dying and they meet 'Lucy' in Heaven... it kind of seems to me that someone is collecting their newly dead consciousness into a collective 'hive' for later use... (possibly for good as opposed to evil because 'Lucy' has said in a previous episode that The Doctor 'loves her'?... or something similar)...

...can you imagine a Dalek's worst fear of seeing a miniature Doctor right in front of your giant eye within your own exoskeleton?... it would be horrific for it...

...his refusal to take the female soldier is a bit out of character for any Doctor but it seems to me that Capaldi's Doctor has some hidden agendas milling around in his head... it's probably a 'Bad Wulf' type of slow background set-up for a future episode down the track methinks!... Moffatt likes doing those things remember?...

...that leader of the soldiers was a dumb ass with the 'Kill him... bag him... tag him' line... overall I like this episode... it did lack a little 'oomph' in parts I have to admit but then again... it is still early days for the new Doctor so it's going to be interesting to watch Capaldi's version of the Doctor develop further... cheers.

Phew, almost missed it again, just scraped into position in time.

Enjoying it all, as the mystery of our new Doctor unfolds.
Must admit I do always rather enjoy the new confused regenerations - Tennant in his jammies getting his hand sliced off, Matt all googly and fast talking.
Peter scares me. And that is a good thing, haven't really had a doctor that could freak me out the way he does.
It's intriguing, mysterious and he does freaky stuff I don't anticipate, that is very cool.

My take on soldier girl's rejection is totally different from you guys.
He doesn't want any war reminders hanging about.
And she is too much Martha, special squad military Martha, he doesn't want or need another Martha.
(And the actor is from that comedy about Uni students sharehousing, character was mostly stoned & never studied I don't want her in DW so I'm a bit biased too, she is kind of funny as a druggie)

...a great point about Martha kxk!... I hadn't looked at it from that angle... I think that you're right on the button with that... I really did like that episode... I'm re-watching it again now lol!... cheers.

I liked it much better tonight. I must need to be more awake when I watch DW, I've never been much of a morning person, lol.

I agree with Mr SF that bits of the episode lacked some oomph. And I didn't like the Clara slap. But it was a neat concept going inside a Dalek and getting attacked by antibodies. And the Doctor's 'prejudice' against Daleks, exploring the possibility of good within evil, tied in with what the Dalek saw in the Doctor.

The Daleks are still scary. I always feel sorry for the poor buggers facing off against them, you know they are doomed, and it's really sad. Sickening sad.

And there were some funny lines, and some poignant lines, and some funny poignant lines. My favourite: 'she's my carer ... she cares so I don't have to'. Their relationship is going to be interesting. I am finding the Doctor low key compared to what we are used to, and his suit makes him look like he has a fat arse. Nothing wrong with fat arses, just not on such a slim man. But I'm sure I'll get used to it all.

I wonder if the first antibody victim went to 'heaven' or if it is just certain dead people.

Yeah the soldier did seem a little Martha-ish. I still think the judgement was a bit harsh of the Doctor though. If the Daleks are attacking your people what choice do the people have but to become rebel fighters. That's what happened to the Doctor after all.

Yes, I was glad to see you were also up at ridiculous o'clock to watch it too.
I'm always decluttering too, but I'm renovating at the moment and plan to get some kind of glass cabinet to put DW figurines in.
I used to buy everything when I was younger but I'm not obsessive now, and finding room for it all is always a problem.
I know you like Matt Smith, I think you'll have to be quick if you want the first figure as the second one (Davros) is due this week. They do seem to be fairly detailed, certainly more so than the Dapol/Product Enterprises plastic figures which were more of a toy like the old Star Wars figures, these new ones are more like a statuette, with a base.

Watched Into The Dalek again tonight and enjoyed it more than the first time, I didn't mean to sound negative before as I pretty much love ALL Doctor Who.

"You.... are a good Dalek."

What a brilliant line at the end. And then the look being held between the Doctor and the Dalek before it quietly turns and moves away.

I thought this was a fantastic episode. Great writing right through, I had a bunch of laugh out loud moments. And a great, original Dalek episode too. Instantly one of my favourite Dalek episodes.

To me Capaldi really started to shine in this episode. And Clara! Already we're seeing a whole lot more depth to her this season. The new love interest was quite likeable too.

And the preview for next week - Robin Hood! Looks great!

OMG Robin Hood should be a romp and a half, awesome history ep, I love the historical eps.

I think this Doctor may scare children.
The first part was quite creepy and a bit trippy.

Now DW fans, what in your opinion remains with this Doctor?
Does he hold all that time lord war & destruction inside? Is it all blown away by the reset done in the 50th?

...what a great question to ask kxk... my take on it?... well... I think that part of the reason that The Doctor knocked back the female soldier and... well... (to be quite honest)... was quite rude and hostile towards her from what I got from it... I think the reason for him being like that is because... (apart from the ordeal of being in a new body and in trying to find his 'new self')... he is in a state of confusion and bewilderment and is probably scared of what he is... hence his question to Clara... "am I a good man?"...

...after taking the responsibilities of being involved in all of the past death and destruction in recent past episodes I think that Capaldi's Doctor may just want to be a pacifist and may just want some 'peace and quiet' and wants to settle into his new body until he has totally recovered from his regeneration... it wouldn't surprise me if Moffatt is writing him this way at the moment because he is still gauging what the public are thinking of Capaldi's take on The Doctor... if he is 100% readily accepted by us as being a 'darker Doctor' then we may see him stay that way but if he slides a bit in popularity and people want another 'flippy floppy' type of Doctor like Matt was then Moffatt will probably write him that way in future episodes methinks!...

...instead of Dr Who being aimed more towards the kids and then the adults next as most of them have been written in the past.... it wouldn't surprise me if Moffatt is taking it more in the direction of entertaining the adults first and then the kids by making The Doctor a more deeper and darker Doctor... (does that sound right on how I'm trying to explain it?... lol!)... myself personally... I'd like a darker and deeper Doctor for a change...

...I actually liked Hartnell's original gruff take on The Doctor... less being so pompous and stuffy would've been perfect for me... I'm hoping that Capaldi's is along those lines crossed with the abundant energy and humour of Tennant's doctor filtering through on occasions... that would be ideal for me at least....

...Doctor Who needs to have a turn for a while in that direction to keep the spark of American and other countries interest in his character to keep going as it is with a lot of that British humour that they do so well thrown into it too... I really do hope that it remains Britishanised rather than Americanised like Torchwood became though... if it goes in that direction it will die like Torchwood did...

...anyhow kxk... a great question!... cheers.

Doctor Who has a long history of condescension towards military types. Typically it's been a very anti-militaristic show, intelligence trumps violence, and the Doctor was that personified.

Now that we live pretty much in a "War is Peace" society, it's pretty rare that anyone in the media, real or fictional, is criticised purely for being a soldier, but it wasn't always that way.

Meglos ! You legend.

I was a little sad when Matt Smith left , however I will no doubt warm to Peter's interpretation of the Doctor.
I look forward to rejoining this thread . :vulcan:
