Well they keep telling us how dark this Doctor will be, and certainly he is quite abrasive. He isn’t worried about being diplomatic. The stuff he’s said to Clara is quite rude, and while it is funny for us, he doesn’t seem to be putting it out there to be funny. And his callousness with the first guy to be killed by the antibodies (particularly when they were in the green sludge and he said that the guy was the top layer so say your goodbyes) is definitely dark.
So why is he so rude? He’s emotionally cut off, so he must be still damaged. Therefore I’m thinking that the slate hasn’t been wiped clean, though I’m not sure that the war etc will be referenced as much as previously unless they have a new angle, as it has been done to death. That's my thoughts anyway. For now.
So exciting to have a Doctor that is leaving us wondering.

...Ben Miller playing the Sheriff of Nottingham reminds me so much of Roger Delgado as 'The Master' of days gone by...
...this Doctor is a curious one isn't he?... he even uses his Sonic Screwdriver to analyse an apple!.. he obviously is suspiscious that not everything is what it appears to be... great arrow shot Doctor!... upon arrow shot... upon arrow shot lolol!...
...Robot Knights!!!... The Doctor knew that something was wrong didn't he?... they did a great job of recreating that time period didn't they?... kudos to them for that...
...The Doctor repays Robin Hood back for the 'boney rascal' quip earlier by calling Robin a "long-haired ninny''... I do like Capaldi's Scottish accent coming through when he's angry... it gives it a lot of 'edge' for me when he speaks... I really am liking it that The Doctor isn't afraid of squabbling with Robin... bringing out a feisty and argumentative side of him for us to see...
...the only thing that niggles at me with this episode is that Robin Hood and his 'Merry Men' are such cliched' versions of those characters... they would've been better if they looked more dirty and grungy with shabby outfits of people that live in a Forest... it would've been more authentic if they had dirt and grass stains on their clothing for instance... just my two cents...
...then again... perhaps that is the point... to make them so cliched' that it's to make us think that all is 'not right' in Sherwood Forest?...
...my God Clara looks so nice in this episode... period costume suits her so well... The Doctor and Robin continuously bickering is hilarious to watch!...
...'The Promised land' seems to me that maybe it could be some sort of clue for a potential arc to show up through future episodes perhaps?... a bit like 'Bad Wolf' of days gone by????... just a shot in the dark from me... I'm so liking Capaldi as this manic perplexing Doctor... he has so fulfilled my expectations of him... he hasn't let me down at all...
...Ben Miller was great in this episode... he filled the role as the prime villain so well... 'Da Vinci's Demons' star Tom Riley played a great part in this episode.. (I so love that show too!)...
...it was quite the swashbuckling episode wasn't it?... I liked it... Capaldi is so delivering the goods to us in my books... this was definitely the episode where Clara found her place in the Tardis for me... she played an integral part in the show today as far as I'm concerned at least...

OMG. The similarities are so striking I can't believe I didn't notice that. I loved RD's Master. John Simm is great, and I really loved him in Life on Mars too, but the Master is a completely different beast with him.
Looking forward to watching it again tonight. There were quite a few silly bits in it, but it was so much fun that I think they get away with it. I was LOVING the Doctor squabbling with Robin Hood, so well written and acted. And Clara was amazing, but I've thought that since Souffle Girl. I always say that the current Doctor is always my favourite (although never from the first episode, these things take a little time) and I don't think Peter will disappoint.

I like your sacrifice theory. That place would be a Nightmare of Guilt for the Doctor to visit. Though if they had been collecting his sacrificial lambs since the Doctor first stole the TARDIS, Heaven's full by now, lol.

I didn't mind this episode. Mainly because it had archery in it, and not just any old archery, but archery using longbows of which both lscp and I use versions of (ours are more USofA flatbow mit shelf rather than shoot off the hand versions wot was used in this episode).
I.E.
Me using the Samick 69 under no target pressure what so ever ...
and back when I first got it ...
and something infinitely more watchable (lol), lscp's first use of her "falco legend", albeit using faux-wood arrows (IE, aluminium with woodgrain.)
Anyhoo, as archers, both lscp and I couldn't help but notice a whole bunch of cringeworthy practices as well as utter nonsenses.
Like, the arrow being nocked to the wrong side of the bow here and there (no wonder the arrows fell off. lol) and a whole bunch of shots where, with the bow drawn and aimed and the distance involved already plain, how the arrow would have basically gone into the ground in but a few metres.
Also, the very first arrow of the day (the one that went into the tardis) didn't even appear to have a nock ! I wouldn't be surprised if it had been shot out of some sort of prop-cannon/slingshot thingo from barely a few feet away rather than a bow ...
... or perhaps one of these things:

I would have to imagine that it would be bordering on impossible to do it deliberately?... it takes a lot of core strength to do archery doesn't it?... just asking...

Hi Sticky, good to see you back in action in the photoshop thread. Thought I'd wear your "what are you, scared of the dark" offering as my avatar for a while too. 
Re: splitting arrows. Happens all the time ... but very rarely (and never witnessed by me) deliberately.
lscp put a wooden arrow down the shaft of another of her woods the other day at around 10 metres. Can clearly see in the nock where the point of the next arrow hit. Didn't split all the way down the shaft though, but rather the nock end 15cm or so split.
While using aluminium shafts I've put a point into somebody else's ally shaft about half way down which broke that arrow in two. On the same field range on a different day, the guy whose arrow I busted put one of his own allies down another which turned the recieving arrow into a four legged octopus ... the shaft peeled/curled back into four separate pieces. He keeps the enlarged photos and arrow combo over his bar, I hear. lol.
Doesn't count unless you call it first though. ;-)
Which makes the "to be sure" youtube of mine not so impressive. Sure, before taking the shot I talk about target pressure yet still manage to hit a spot the size of a 50c piece at near to 3om and where the two previous shooters also hit. Sure, it is like 3 golfers each getting a hole in one on the same hole on the same round. The reality is though that, although this was almost our first target of the day, most of the rest of the round was crap for us all, making that particular target the exception rather than the rule.
Still, none of us were using any kind of sights ... was all by feel/experience.
Ummm, back to your question re: splitting arrows. How is THIS for a weird shot ! None of us there on the day could figure out how the flight managed to be penetrated like that. Best explanation was that one arrow was microseconds behind the other and the first one bent on impact (as typically happens) and presented enough of a profile for the other arrow to go through it.

As for home archery, we keep things as safe as we possibly can and shudder at the thought of the sport being brought into disrepute, so you'd have nothing to fear re: arrows.
Besides, 89% of our yard is stinging nettles anyway and the remaining territory can be easily defended by nice cold wet frog spawn laden water from a high pressure portable fire fighting unit.

Agree so much!! I found it hard to sit through the first one, 2nd ep kinda ok, but Robin Hood! Loved it!! Even forgot it was a different actor being the Dr for the first time. Especially loved The Dr bringing Marion to Robin at the very end.

Robin Hood looked so much like the hero of Princess Bride, Carey Elwes (spelling?), I thought it was his son???
Peter show was sweet, he and his son-in-law Tennant, aww, nice together; and the interview with Peter was lovely.
All the doctors I love best exude a sweetness/kindness/gentle aura in their natural state. Peter/David/Matt/Peter - a Peter circle!
I think this is what stops me loving Tom Baker, he exudes nasty at home, and doesn't have that certain aura, sweet mixed with crazy super brain.
I have a feeling BB is going to be horrendous this year, I have a feeling of doom, awfulness packaged as gloss/glamour - the 1st reveal encompassed that
