Jade 2013 Appreciation thread

I tried to reply to @smurfette in the double post but stuffed it up. I was hoping she could get a sideline interview job or similar. Dating players, not so much.

All the players seem to have girlfriends, so I don't think that is a prospect at the moment - but maybe something could eventuate from working with the Footy Show (work-wise)

(why is the quote duplicated?? Is this forum on drugs?? Are Ed and Boog moderating???)

I prefer to think I am worth quoting twice, but there is glitch in the quoting I think. Otherwise I am just hopeless at it:unsure:

A footy player and Jade just doesn't seem to match in my opinion. However you never know I suppose, she seems quite chummy with Chris McQueen of the Rabbitohs. He has got some hideous tattoos, but most Footy heads do nowadays.

Anyway Jade is looking keen on moving to Coogee, which I guess she would love as it is close to the beach. Hopefully if she has found a place, that will mean the little piece of gossip I got last week will be true and she may have a nice paying job. Coogee would not be cheap to rent.

So many of those footballers have a head-neck. Snuggling into the nook would be tricky.
However, Jade looks lovely as usual. I wonder if there is any way she can get into the League scene, she really seems to love it.

I love Jade but aside from the publicity she brings I don't really know what she could bring to the league scene that a journalist with an interest in league could not.

Yeah, he has a neck tattoo which kind of makes me go :jawdrop: :wtf:
Looks like she's moving to Coogee with a good friend so I think that will get her out and about meeting lots of new people...hopefully.

Just that there is a trend towards having more women in league, even in what you would call cameo appearances. Her interest in fitness and passion for the game would help. Might not be her acting dream but would give some experience and pay for that pad in Coogee.

Being involved in a journalism course right now, I just found out the percentage of females in journalistic pursuits period, and its incredibly low. For such a competitive field, I do sort of scratch my head at what Jade could accomplish that someone with training could not.

Yep, the daughter of a friend has been looking for work in the journalism field for the past six months and has finally found a temporary job to at least get some experience. I agree with you, but lots of the sports codes seem to put on ex-players etc instead of journalists. And Jade would look a lot better than some of them.

From memory, Jade's profile on her management's site listed that she had done a NIDA presenting course, so that maybe something she has to offer

Edit - can't see it listed there - so obviously imagined it ( but a NIDA acting course)

But this is new -

Females in the industry that are actually genuine league fans are extremely rare. The NRL is really trying to appeal to a greater audience at the moment (particularly women) and it's why you'll now see the token female working on each of the league shows on Nine and Fox. Problem is though very few of them are genuine fans of the game and follow it beyond interviewing some players or digging up some injury news.

Erin Molen on Nine of example, everyone that I've heard that's met her have all said she actually knows bugger all about league, which would make sense considering she's said that she barely watched a game of NRL before she started reporting on it.

For what Jade lacks in journalistic experience she makes up for in a genuine passion for the game. In a sea of journalists wanting to get that shot, what Jade has is probably more valuable...especially when league shows notoriously hire more ex players and fans than journos anyway.

I suppose the ex players make more sense to me because they have spent a significant portion of their life learning every aspect of it and therefore have a lot of insight (some of them, anyway). It would drive me nuts if I wanted in on Rugby (genuine fan), had spent three years training for it, only for the job to go to someone just because they were on Big Brother and looked alright.

More screens, more Australian content, less dependence on US studio output and a game-changing realignment of the technological goalposts promise a fiercely competitive year in Australian television in 2014.

With analog television a thing of the past, the digital landscape equalises the ''big five'', pay TV and the newer, smaller digital channels, as well as new online players. But the big money is still sunk into content for flagship channels on free-to-air and pay TV.

Herewith, our guide to what's in store this year.

SIX OF THE BEST
Australia: The Story of Us (Seven)
A documentary series as a marquee program is an ambitious idea for a commercial network, particularly one that has defined itself in the past as a smart player of a safe game. Australia: The Story of Us, billed as ''more than 40,000 years in the making'', comes from the production company Essential Media.

Australian broadcaster Seven has commissioned a local version of the docudrama format The Story of Us, to be made by Essential Media & Entertainment.

The local version of the format, which was originally made by Jane Root’s production company Nutopia for U.S. net History, will air down under in 2014. Using dramatic reconstructions, CGI and interviews, the event program pieces together the story of how Australia was created.

The U.S. version, which was introduced by president Barack Obama, brought in high ratings for History.

Australia is the latest country to pick up the format, following a UK version for BSkyB. Meanwhile, a global version – Mankind The Story of All of Us (pictured above)has aired in more than 35 territories.

“The world is full of amazing stories about our history,” said Root. “It’s really exciting to be able to bring to life the incredible story of Australia, and we’re looking forward to seeing the format tell the story of other great nations around the world.”

“We’re very excited to be able combine our experience in both drama and historical documentary to take Jane’s proven and popular mega-doc formula to a broad Australian audience,” added Chris Hilton, Essential Media’s CEO and an executive producer of Australia The Story of Us.

Understand completely, some of the ex-player commentators/panelists have trouble stringing a sentence together. I think different shows are appealing to different audiences though and there might be a place for someone who could appeal to another slice of the audience. Good luck with your course btw :) :)

Your'e right, if they can get another slice of the audience then they should do whatever they can. I just find it disappointing that people with great credentials find themselves on the outside looking in and people without any (or the ability to "string a sentence together") do not.

Thank you very much.

I don't think what Jade has is more valuable. There are so many people out there with genuine passion AND credentials. Passion does not make you qualified to do something. Plenty of people have a passion for wrestling that have no business being involved in the WWE (for example). If Jade builds a solid base of credentials and knowledge, then that in conjunction with her passion might help her get more involved. But right now she has no experience or training in presenting and I can not think of what else she might do. It just stands in contrast to her acting. She has spent time working on her craft, she has done classes and learned what you need to do to be an actress. Being an actress is tough but so is becoming involved with the media.

If we were talking about hard hitting reporting where the subject matter and format required specific training and experience I'd agree with you. However we're talking about her potentially getting a bit of screen time related around footy...a game who's media heads are pretty much all unqualified ex players. That's just the way league does it. They prefer to go for likeable, familiar characters rather than the professional journalist types that you see on more serious programs. In fact the most unpopular guy on the Channel 9 league team (Ray Hadley) is the only one that actually has formal credentials. Just on the ex players, yes I know for a trained journalist it would be frustrating seeing them walk into jobs, but I know for me personally if I'm watching the footy I'd prefer to hear insights from blokes that have actually been there regardless of how well they speak.

If Tim can work on the Today show with no qualifications then I don't see why Jade can't work on the Footy show. It's not like either of them are reporting from war zones or questioning politicians. You don't actually need any qualifications to do most media jobs...and at the end of the day on TV likability and popularity is going to carry more weight than a course qualification. I understand that's difficult if you're trying to get into the industry, but I still don't begrudge Jade anything. She's worked very hard since leaving the house...both behind the scenes and by keeping with her acting classes. In fact I bet her acting training would help her a lot in the media.
