Jade 2013 Appreciation thread

If we were talking about hard hitting reporting where the subject matter and format required specific training and experience I'd agree with you. However we're talking about her potentially getting a bit of screen time related around footy...a game who's media heads are pretty much all unqualified ex players. That's just the way league does it. They prefer to go for likeable, familiar characters rather than the professional journalist types that you see on more serious programs. In fact the most unpopular guy on the Channel 9 league team (Ray Hadley) is the only one that actually has formal credentials. Just on the ex players, yes I know for a trained journalist it would be frustrating seeing them walk into jobs, but I know for me personally if I'm watching the footy I'd prefer to hear insights from blokes that have actually been there regardless of how well they speak.

If Tim can work on the Today show with no qualifications then I don't see why Jade can't work on the Footy show. It's not like either of them are reporting from war zones or questioning politicians. You don't actually need any qualifications to do most media jobs...and at the end of the day on TV likability and popularity is going to carry more weight than a course qualification. I understand that's difficult if you're trying to get into the industry, but I still don't begrudge Jade anything. She's worked very hard since leaving the house...both behind the scenes and by keeping with her acting classes. In fact I bet her acting training would help her a lot in the media.

I have no issue with the ex players being so heavily involved (the ones capable of speech, anyway). They have spent years learning the game and are capable of possibly providing some insight. They also have a connection to the game and the fans that most people do not.

She can but I doubt she would be accepted. Its a nightmare for the most charismatic women who know their sport to get a spot and some respect. Kelli Underwood was mercilessly shredded despite being pretty good on screen, attractive and well credentialed. I can't speak to Rugby, but if I am watching a football (AFL) show I don't want a reality show star on screen. Like if they put a MKR personality on AFL 360, I wouldn't watch that. The perception is that the MKR person has no place in the show, whether they are a fan is irrelevant. The fan aspect is not enough of a connection. There are millions fans out there. Reality show star, barely any sports experience and 23. That's a tough sell on a sports show. I have never seen anyone under 30 on a sports show. Especially one as prominent as that.

Tim can find work on the Today show more easily because it is a light entertainment show, which is in his wheelhouse. Big Brother is a light entertainment show. Jade going on-screen on a rugby show is a real stretch.

I take it you've never seen the NRL footy show? It's the definition of a light entertainment show...much more than the today show. Other than giving their tips for the weekend's games, on the Thursday night one that Jade works on they don't even talk much about Footy. They play random games, interview players about their personal lives away from Footy, have a segment called "perfect partners" where they bring players girlfriends or mums on. Beau Ryan does a segment called "Beau knows" where he walks the streets asking people about a range of topics completely unrelated to league. If any acts are in the country they usually interview them and then they perform. After each BB HM was evicted last year they appeared on the show too.

I understand your point of view that Jade doesn't deserve to get any screen time doing anything for the show because she's not an ex player with insight, but if you start using that as your selection criteria then no females would be allowed on there at all because NRL at the top level is a male only game. Hell, the current co host of the Thursday night Footy Show never played League. He's from a Cricket background. Nor did he have any journalism qualifications.

Jade would tick a lot of boxes for them. She's female (who they're trying to include more in the game), she has a following of loyal fans, they'd know she's a likeable character due to her results on BB and meeting her behind the scenes on the show. She's a genuine league fan, she gets along well with players so they'd probably happily give her an interview, she has a keen interest and is happy to promote all of Nines other shows (which is something they're big on) and on top of that she's attractive and comes up well on camera.

I don't see why this is such an issue. For light entertainment at least she has a lot going for her.

Just to clarify my post from the other day, although she is with the Footy Show now, she is an usher and a runner for production. The possible job I alluded to was not on the Footy Show (although something may come up).

What Jade has done is get herself noticed for her personality and work ethic, which is exactly what she should be doing because even if she is chasing acting jobs and what not she will always be able to make a dollar working at 9 in production, part time etc.

It is a bugger of an industry, with plenty of false starts and disappointments, but she is definitely in the mix on another project.

Well I didn't imagine it was going to be all paralysis stories and stuff like that. At the end of the day its still sports and it would seem very strange to see someone like Jade shoehorned into the mix.

I don't know if that's really fair. I am sure there are women who know their Rugby and are able to provide insight. Sometimes that's tough, if for no other reason than the fact that its a mostly male audience and they are not really used to a woman telling them about sports. I know people have an issue with Caroline Wilson because she never played football, but provides insight to the game. There are many valid reasons to dislike Caroline but this is not one of them, she has studied the ins and outs of the game for decades. Slater really is Mr channel Nine.

I don't think the league scene is devoid of women looking to get their chance, so that really shouldn't be one of the criteria. She does have some fans but how many are going to want to watch the Footy show? After one episode I cant imagine a noticeable number would want to come back for a second viewing. She is likable, but comes off as such a weird addition to a Rugby show. She is a fan but so are millions of other people and most athletes love the attention so they will give interviews to any show (especially the Footy show). I think if you get a chance to have a job on the number one Rugby show in Australia most people would be willing to promote "Triumph of the Will", let alone other shows one Nine. She is very attractive and does come off well.

Agree 100% for light entertainment (emphasis on the entertainment) she has a lot going for her. But its still rugby and Jade is a stretch for that. Sophie Faulkner is a passionate Essendon supporter but that didn't mean she could or should be on even the lightest entertainment AFL show. I love Jade, but there are certain areas that she does not fit. Especially given how challenging it is for more qualified women to have ANY role in a sports show (even a light one).

Which would be great. Really hope she does well and gets a chance to do something. But to me Jade, a model, actress and reality show star, being on even the lightest Rugby show does not make sense to me.

Getaway in Italy??

When she wished her brothers a happy birthday she said she would see them soon as it had been 2 years since her last visit.

I wonder how much longer people keep giving them free stuff? Do the 2012 people still get freebies at this point? Their Twitter and Instagram followings don't really change even after the new season begins, so I guess there is no reason they would not.

I think it will be the same as any other person with a public profile and sufficient followers to warrant this form of advertising. Provided the public person fits the image that a company is happy to be associated with - it is very effective, efficient and cost-saving marketing. It seems that the freebies are now more targeted to the individual ex-HMs eg. natural juices to a health conscious person, clothes to a person who wears that style etc.

I don't think the 2012 HMs had the social media presence that this years do (plus this year's were a way more relatable group).

Ok I will probably get jumped on by saying this but I cringe every time I see Jade in a photo with Tim or have any sort of interaction with him. Just cannot stand the man and can't see what she sees in him. Maybe I am not as forgiving as she is, he must have done one hell of a suck up job for her to speak to him again. With him you would always have to be on edge not knowing if anything you say is going to be used against you at any time he fancies.

True but we don't really know if Jade and Tim are actually 'friend' friends, she's probably just being her usual polite self.
