Teachers to strike in WA for a half day on Thursday 19th September. 9.30-11.30am only

My advice for WA parents...? Just keep your kids home for the day. It'll be easier.

YUP!

Preemptive strike on a likely story that ought not be ...

(emphasis mine)

Legal Tender
Wallet with banknotes

Australian banknotes are a legal tender throughout Australia (this is provided in section 36(1) of the Reserve Bank Act 1959).

A payment of coins is a legal tender throughout Australia if it is made in Australian coins, but this is subject to some restrictions about how much can be paid in coin. According to the Currency Act 1965 (section 16) coins are legal tender for payment of amounts which are limited as follows:

not exceeding 20c if 1c and/or 2c coins are offered (these coins have been withdrawn from circulation, but are still legal tender);
not exceeding $5 if any combination of 5c, 10c, 20c and 50c coins are offered; and
not exceeding 10 times the face value of the coin if $1 or $2 coins are offered.

For example, if someone wants to pay a merchant with five cent coins, they can only pay up to $5 worth of five cent coins and any more than that will not be considered legal tender.

The Reserve Bank of Australia does not have legal responsibility for Australian coins. That responsibility belongs to the Royal Australian Mint.

and in other news, meh that Greg Hunt been given THAT portfolio and not Dr Dennis Jensen, somebody who has a PhD in Materials Science and Physics, experience at CSIRO and in Defense Science and Technology Organisation. He’s the most highly qualified member of Parliament in any area of science.

OTOH, perhaps Greg is the best person for the job, just like every other person appointed to a cabinet position, regardless of whether they are male or female, have blue eyes or brown eyes, whether they are married or not, what their ethnic origins are, or if their star sign happens to be gemini, etc, etc, etc.

After all, the Oz general public should be represented by the best people for the job rather than via some sort of quota system that favours the less than ideal at the expense of the entire nation, yes ?

It's 60% larger than last year because last year was the lowest on average.

First up, satellite records only go back to around the 1980s anyway, second up, here's a graph showing the real story,

"Of course, this is only a record for the satellite era data back to about 1980, and just like the much ballyhooed record low of 2012, we have no hard data to tell us if this has happened before or not.

Here’s the current Cryosphere Today plot, note the steep rebound right after the summer minimum, something also noted in Sea Ice News Volume 3 Number 14 – Arctic refreeze fastest ever:
"

... and third up, cheers for acknowledging that the sea ice is 60% larger this year than last year (despite there being more atmospheric CO2 this year than last year ... not that there is any worthwhile correlation anyway, what with atmospheric CO2 levels historically LAGGING global temperature changes typically by around 800 years, and all that).

I'm not expecting you to give up your chosen religion overnight but I am enjoying seeing more and more of your previously holy writ being exposed in the light of truth and abandoned by more and more of the previously faithful.

Heck, even your precious IPCC are now winding things back coz even they could no longer deny that there has been no warming for over 15 years and things used to be at least as warm if not moreso back in Roman and Medieval times.

Bahahahahahahahahahahaha

do you even realize what that first graph is? The difference between the minimum and the maximum. Of course with the minimum getting smaller the difference compared with the maximum will be getting bigger. Even though the maximum is getting smaller.

That is some grade A twisting and dishonest.

It gets more ice at the

Oh and look another cropped graph making it meaningless.

How many times over the years have I told you about variation in temperature? Cycles. That it's not linear in the short term. You get variation. The fact you're still pretending to be unaware about this and putting forward such a straw man version of climate science really goes to show how dishonest you are when it comes to the topic.

Can't see the Oz left-ards going for the following sort of thing, what with it involving the concept of taking responsibility for oneself and all that.

DUTCH king Willem-Alexander has delivered a message to his people from the government: the welfare state of the 20th century is gone.

In its place a “participation society” is emerging, in which people must take responsibility for their own future and create their own social and financial safety nets, with less help from the national government, he said in a nationally televised address…

“The shift to a ‘participation society’ is especially visible in social security and long-term care,” the king said, reading out to lawmakers a speech written for him by Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s government.

“The classic welfare state of the second half of the 20th century in these areas in particular brought forth arrangements that are unsustainable in their current form.”
