Yes you are right, this is a chat forum about Big Brother, but when you come in here sharing your opinion that one gay man, who appeared on that show, is going to change how you behave towards the entire gay community, you must have realised that opinion was going to be challenged, yes?

I am not flaming you. We are having an adult debate. Its foundation was a comment you made that I felt was inaccurate and I voiced it - and a discussion ensued.

But sadly, like so many people in here, when you didn't like my response, rather than discuss it further, you attack me personally, you imply I am abusing prescription drugs, and then (predictably) accuse me of bullying, as well as a host of other insults. Then to top it off, you tried to twist one of the saddest times of my life, that being the heartbreak that came with my darling son’s bullying ordeal, in a failed attempt to hurt me. Responding the way you did merely demonstrates your lack of empathy and character, not mine.

As I taught my son, you can’t control how someone behaves, but you can control how you react to them.

You have taken as much of my time and attention as I am prepared to give, so rock on.

I provided a deliberately hyperbolic description of heterosexual men based on an exaggeration of some negative traits which are more common among straight men than other groups.

Most heterosexual men are not thugs, just like most gay men are not bitches and most black people are not criminals. But I'm sure that most people could easily produce a mental image of either one of these stereotypes, because they all arise out of some small truth which is then taken out of context by people like v-tone saying things like “my respect for gays as a whole has shifted towards the negative after this series of BB”. I'm saying that smart people have the sense not to allow these stereotypes to cloud their judgements of entire groups of people.

I am a very loud, direct, confrontational, over excitable, confident, over opinionated, inappropriate person and I swear like a truck driver in my real life too. Funnily enough I never have any troubles with people in my real life and I have never ever been accused of being a bully in my whole life. This may shock you, but I get on well with people in every aspect of my real life.

As for Ben being a role model for gays... if it were not for people constantly reminding me he is gay I would have forgotten it ages ago. I don't generally tend to think about what people do in the privacy of their bedrooms. It's what they do on my TV that I think about and I think Ben is a bad role model for humanity in general!

I get on well with everyone in my life too, but that's probably my biggest shortcoming: I fight to the death if I feel that I (or loved ones) are under attack! Not to win a point - I can easily concede that - it's just when it feels personal that I go on the offensive. But yes, it's draining. It's that father thing that I mentioned once previously. When he was being an arsehole, I was determined that he shouldn't get away with it. And that lies behind why Ben vs Estelle got me so emotionally involved, haha!

Interesting places, these forums... my friends all knock BB and the fact that I got into it, but one can learn a lot - especially about oneself. Thanks for helping me along that path of knowledge.
