The Tallulah Thread Part 2

Just googled Kale

KALE: Hawaiian form of English/French Charles, meaning "man." I prefer the name Charles lol. However, I guess in Hawaii it's probably as common as Tom or Ben.

Considering we don't live in Hawaii, it still sounds like a cabbage to me.

Blaise just reminded me of Blaine on Glee - I bet there are 100's of kids about to be stuck with that one.

haha his name turns up a lot, it's a poncy upper crust name the English like media-wise I think, I see it used in that context a lot. It's a bit like when they do things here and the skanky houso girl is always called Sharon lol

There are a few around though, at his new job one girl walked in, saw it on the desk and freaked out - apparently she had an ex-boyfriend with that name and thought it might have been him. There was one at the kids old primary school too. Can't say I'd choose it for my kids but then look at what I did choose lol.

Chrystal, Krystal or Kristel. Doesn't matter if you spell it the correct way or not it is a pretentious attention seeking name. Why didn't the parents just go all the way and call the kid Princess or Pryncess?

You forgot one! Local girl at recruitment agency. Krystle. I call her thistle, though not to her face. I struggle to take her seriously though.

I have a friend with a daughter called Krystal. Lovely people, but I also knew a town bike by the same name, not that I'd say that to her face.

The one I met today had a three part hyphenated surname. Unfortunately the initials when put together didn't make anything funny.

Peaches Geldof and her husband/partner had a baby boy.

Astala.

No idea if it's a legit name. Googled it, but nothing comes up.
It sounds a bit girly.

hmm..it does sound feminine. When you say Astala, it sounds a bit like Estella...ergo feminine.

in my job i have to work in a number of different offices and i have to tell you over the last year or so it makes a HUGE difference on your ability to interact with someone based on their name. well maybe just for me. but people who i have nfi what their name is or how to say it, i totally avoid approaching them because i just dont know how to say "hi gobbledygook!" or when you want to write them an email, which these days emails are usually your name, you cant just type it because you have to check 10 times its correct.

i also once again feel bad for people who have to explain how to pronounce their name. this girl at work is FOREVER correcting people. im just super glad my name is simple.

Facebook friend of a Friend's baby. London. A girl.

Sister to Logan.

They're all spelt correctly and all, but isn't a girl called London and a boy called Logan just TOO similar?

Occupational Therapy student today Creeasta pronounced Cree (like Bree) S Ta not sure why the A is there. I asked the background and she said she thought it was Greek, her mum saw a similar name in a book and liked the sound of it.

That's just a bit too close to Creature for kids at school not to make the connection. Poor girl.

And yes, London and Logan are very similar for siblings.

I just saw Chymeira...

My Googling is telling me it's a surname.

Apparently it's a Jewish name, and the male version of Esther:

'It's a girl's name, let's face it': An unimpressed Sir Bob Geldof begs Peaches to change his grandson's name

He's hardly one to talk about unusual baby names, having gone against the grain for all of his own three daughters.

But Sir Bob Geldof has certainly been left less than impressed about his daughter Peaches' taste in names.

The Boomtown Rats legend hates his grandson's title so much, he's even been begging her to change it.

Peaches gave birth to her first child last week and named the little boy Astala Dylan Willow Cohen-Geldof - a name both herself and her fiance Thomas Cohen had picked out before he was even born.

But she clearly doesn't have her father's agreement, as he pokes fun at the bizarre name and reveals he has asked the couple to think again.

He told The Sun: 'Yuck! What’s he going to be called in school? Ass? Stella? It’s a girl’s name, let’s face it.'

Sir Bob could even be blamed for starting the trend of having unusual names in his family.

He has a daughter, Fifi Trixibelle, 29, who they named Fifi after his aunt's name and Trixibelle because his late ex-wife Paula Yates wanted a belle in the family.

They then also had 23-year-old Peaches, who has the middle name Honeyblossom, as well as youngest daughter, Little Pixie, 21.

And even his adopted daughter shares their odd names.

Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence-Geldof was Yates' daughter with Michael Hutchence, who died three years before Paula in 1997. Bob then became her legal guardian so she could grow up with her sisters.

But Geldof has defended his own odd name choices because they all mean something and have special reasons for them.

And although he is not a fan of the tot's given name, Bob is ecstatic that he finally has a boy in the family, branding it 'great'.

He added to The Sun: 'I've swam in oestrogen my entire life, and now finally a little chap comes along'.

Peaches announced the happy news she had given birth last week on her Twitter page.

She wrote: 'yes, it's true - I'M A MUMMY!'

And added: 'My little boy is the most beautiful thing in this world. When he holds @tomfromscum's finger with his hand its the sweetest thing ever.'

A few weeks before the birth, Peaches told Hello! magazine they had chosen out Astala's name.

She said: 'We found Astala in a baby name book - quite an obscure one. This is going to be a very stylish baby.

'I wanted a Jewish name because my fiance is a Jew and the name is the male version of Esther.'

Source.

So is Bob's objection a purely sexist one then? Not actually anything to do with an odd name but heaven forbid a boy goes against gender stereotypes.

Having said that - Maxwell Drew, Jessica Simpson? Really? if you wanted to call her Maxie you could have just done that.
