Last movie you saw

The Expendables

Awesome!!!
Yes the plot is thin and dialgue is often mumbled so you can't hear words. Yes some scenes back in their normal life kind of seemed a bit out of no where, but the film is meant to be a cliched 8-s type action movie, taken dead seriously while being self aware. There's no pointed out nodds, but it's very self aware and it's great!

Very entertaining. It exceeded my expectations which were, "I hoped it would be awesome, but expected to be disappointed." I how ever had a big grin of my face smiling with Glee during most of the action. The fight scenes are hard man on man, no fancy wire work stuff. People going at it, firing guns, throwing knives, kicks, punches flip. Stallone sure as hell knows how to make action fun! Being free from knowing that everything has to make 100% sense just enough to move a long and drive motivations, it lends itself very well to being very entertaining.

You know if the plot had been stronger, it'd be a better film, but probably not as damn entertaining!

I will surely see this again in cinema's one of the most fun films i've seen in ages! Probably most entertaining since Kick Ass. Although don't compare the films. Remember this is a kick ass 80s type film and is a classic action film. If this was made in the 80s, it would be regarded a classic, no doubt about it!

Bring on a sequel!!!

I finally got to see the fantastic and aweome "The Green Slime."

The last time I saw this was back in the mid 70s when one of our TV
channels ran an all night scifi marathon from 8.30pm till 7am...

Back then TV stations here closed at midnight.

Who can remember when TV stations closed at midnight?

I watched Kick Ass last night. It was ok but not as great as I thought it was going to be, loved Hit Girl. Nicholas Cage makes me cringe no matter what part he's playing, was he always that bad or did I use to have terrible taste I wonder?

Is that what it was? I thought it was just his usual wooden overacting, but he actually borrowed it. :)

He was good in The Rock

Scott Pilgrim 8/10
Incredibly geeky movie going experience but well worth it. I found it very enjoyable and found myself laughing and appreciating every single character on screen. Even Michael Cera was great! Sort of obsessed with Knives Chau now though...

Salt

It's quite good. It's a modern action thriller version of a more 90s action thriller. If that makes sense?
It's more traditional than a lot of action thrillers we see today, which go too much into over the top, video game territory in action and plot. This is way more traditional but utilises modern styles while not falling into the trappings of them.
The cast is great, Angelina is actually really good in it. The plot is quite intriguing and interesting and is what drives the film. I saw it was one of my best mates who we differ on films a fair bit. Like I remember seeing Transportor 2, His girlfriend and Me really enjoyed it, he said it was bad and unrealistic. Then with salt, he said he was let down on the action. It's almost as if, a film like transporter 2 where action is the point he didn't like because of the plot and reality. Where as Salt which is more a thriller were really the action drives and pushes the plot, he thought the action was a let down. Interesting dynamic.
Two different styles of action films. Action for entertainment, action to push a plot. Not that there's a brilliant plot. It's no inception or dark knight or anything. The plot is unrealistic... we hope... but cool and interesting.

It goes back to my often repeated central idea on film watchers. So many people can't actually enjoy films for what they are. They let what they thing it will be, should be, is, over ride it. It lets people complain a film like crank is stupid. Missing the point. Or saying some coen brothers film which is really badly made is great.. because every flaw is sign of genius in it, where as in crank every fun silly bit is a flaw... missing the points... not sitting back..

Anyways... Salt is a solid, very entertaining more traditional action thriller that grabs your attention and never slows down. Yeah you could probably deconstruct the plot and it is bad, however you're not meant to. It's traditional action thriller film making down with modern style and flare.

Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

Sitting there trying to de-virus a download crazy teenager's laptop, I needed something to cheer me up.
So hey, Tim Burton's first full movie (I think).

Watching man-child Pee Wee Herman off in search of his bicycle. Sometimes whimsical, sometimes falling into Burton scary weird dream sequences. Not hilarious, but... interesting, odd, with a smattering of little chuckles.

Piranha 3D

Well first off the bat it is 3d post conversion. It was always intended as this, so was made as a 3d movie in 2D, the converted. It was alright and is apparently meant to be quite good for this process. Still to me it was apparent, although to my friends no. And not apparent because I knew this, i thought it was shot in 3d and was like... wait a minute... anyways... so it's not avatar 3d and often wierd and wrong depth perspective.

So yeah this is a big silly film aimed to be fun. It's over the top, cliched and dumb on purpuse. To be a big entertaining, gore, funny film it worked. It was lots of fun, seeing it with several friends who all like to laugh made the film even better. So yeah it was fun entertainment for adults.

It's the sort of film that some people like me and my friends will walk out going, that was really entertaining. Others will not see the humor and probably think it's one of the worst movies ever.

Apologies if this is a dumbass question but, is Piranha 3D simply a remake of the original 1979 Piranha movie?

Yeah it's a remake, not sure how much of a remake.

A lake during spring break. There's an earthquake that creates a passage to this lake and a giant underwater one filled with prehistoric piranha. They come out and kill people. It's cheap nasty entertainment.

Cheers, UAN. :)

I remember seeing the original when I was about 6. Thought it was awesome! :D Don't recall an earthquake though. I think the piranha were part of a hidden scientific experiment (?) and accidentally released.

Obvious plot hole is how the fish survived millions of years trapped underground..

But then we would not have fun stuff like Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus

Oh it's way more fun and entertaining than Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus. I found that too lame and cheap to be truly fun. Piranha 3d has a decent production so can be silly and look good doing it. Also has two hot naked chicks swimming around under water like mermaids for ages... nice!

It addresses that plot hole, they just cannibalised each other and apparently could do that for 2 million years.

Haha it's so funny when they take one to a fish expert (Doc Brown), he knows right away what it is, and has a fossil of it just in the back room haha

I've never like Nicholas Cage since he wrecked "Peggy Sue got Married":p He was woeful.

Anyway, I watched 5 movies on the plane to USA.
Kick Ass was one of them...OMG....sooooooo violent!!! And with kids in it!!

Other were Alice in Wonderland...not bad
Shrek III ...nothing special
The Gost Writer...very predictable ..and boring
Lost in Translation...booooooooooooooring, and WTH ish?? Where was the story:confused:

i liked lost in translation....
It's more of a character observation than plot driven.

If you are into killer fish, look about for the Sharktopus trailer.
It's one of those movies where just watching the trailer is probably sufficient.

Four Lions

I don't really know how to describe or what to say. It was a film by the genius that is Chris Morris, and it was quite entertaining. It's a dark and subtle comedy about suicide bombers in england. It's the sort of thing where it's just so matter of fact these guys want to be terrorists, that it's kind of bizaar. While I understand the film was based on, partially how stupid and retarded, fantasy land many terrorists actually are, and how they can still have an impact. The film probably would have benefited with at least a reasoning background behind why it was so accepted by these guys. Although it probably wouldn't have worked as well cramming that in. It was entertaining and yeah, like it's not hilarious or anything but if it seems like the sort of thing you could find funny and are a fan of the style of humour, definitely watch. I guess for me, I think the film could have gone further. Both in brutality of terrorism and what breeds it.

Still it was a good film, although cinematically, it's very tv.

In a way it's an important film to support because it explores taboo topics and there needs to be more of this.
