That was what they were discussing. It was an observation about how Ray responded to jokes about being short. Apparently, unseen by us, there was some ribbing of Ray as short. When it's first mentioned we can see by Josh's face that there must've been some sort of reaction to it by Ray. They weren't saying Ray is short and that's funny but that Ray has exhibited a sensitivity to shorty jokes and it surprises them.

The fact that he's actually not that short is the whole point.

And yet Michael is still commenting on 'Ray's short man syndrome' when he himself is shorter than Ray. Michael probably saw Ray's hefty equipment in the shower and is jealous, because he is definitely jealous of his buffness (because Michael is a pudgy, doughy, untoned, scummy prick)

You've proven nothing. Michael was bagging Ray out about his purported 'short man's syndrome' and he is shorter than Ray himself. Michael has short man's syndrome. The only thing he likes about himself is his mask of hair and beard he uses to hide his face behind because he is so insecure. Where does he get off? Michael sat in the diary room and sob storied to big brother about how his hair makes him feel more cool or comfortable or some pathetic/lame reason and refused to cut it off. Michael is insecure about the way he looks. If he doesn't have short man syndrome he has ugly face syndrome, take your pick. If Ray has insecurities who is Michael to chastise him about them, when Michael has insecurities himself. Hypocrite, hypocrite, hypocrite

I really do think you've missed the point. Apparently there were some 'short' jokes directed at Ray. We weren't privy to who said them or what they were. Michael was expressing his surprise that Ray would seem to care given that he's "not that short". Ben went on to identify the sensitivity as short man syndrome, because although not actually short, Ray appears to have an insecurity about it.

The idea that no one is ever allowed to comment on anyone else's insecurity unless they have none of their own strikes me as a rather extreme viewpoint. I don't really see the problem here. Some HMs discovered a possible (and somewhat surprising, if true) insecurity of Ray's and then talked about it.
