What's for dinner?

Mine too, lol.
Illabeth, you are on par with jessy girl in terms of diet.

Hey now. It's not as bad as other times. jessy_girl seems to be a girl after my own heart, although I think I'm more fond of veggies than she is. I'm just lazy, food really doesn't hold much appeal for me unless I'm cooking for a large group, and even then I tend not to eat what I cook (bad me!).

My HMs had pizza last night, I'm not a huge fan so I just had their leftover crisps from lunch. I thought about having pasta and cheese but couldn't be arsed.

That's funny, because my stomach had the opposite reaction! But I am of course the antithesis to health.

Haha. I may or may not have followed that up with Ben and Jerry's for breakfast (It was Chunky Monkey though, so it had banana in it!). After some cornflakes and more coke for lunch I think my HM might be making some chicken soup for dinner, I'm yet to decide if I will partake in her creation, we cook very differently and I find it extremely hard to eat food that has been cooked by others. I like to know exactly what - and how much of something - is in my food.

As for adding something in slowly. My HM set up a healthy foods chart (a la primary school - we have star stickers and everything). And each week we have a different fruit and a vegetable and we put our stars up when we have our bit each day. It's a pretty awesome chart, it also reminds me to eat three meals and a snack each day too. We get stickers for meals eaten, trying new foods or blends of food, eating our veggies and other fun things.

Illabeth, I feel like I'm going to have an organ failure just reading your food habits. Wow, just wow! Just want to point out you don't necessarily know what goes I to the ice cream you eat or the coke you drink :p

I like your hm very much. That's actually a really good system to get you motivated and think about your food. I get excited when I know so done is making a change for the better lol.

Please don't think I'm a food nazi btw. I actually eat everything. I can tell you now, I make pancakes almost three times a week. I just think that eating good food is good health wise and helps in protecting future problems. Ok so I'm a little bit of a food nazi lol

Sweet_Geek don't worry. I know I eat atrociously and not enough. I seem to fluctuate between a mostly balanced diet and one that is just beyond terrible. When I'm not studying I do try to avoid caffeine, or at least I don't have anywhere near as much as I am at the moment. I'm writing my thesis so I'm having around 4 to 6 cans a day just to keep me going. The only problem is they fill me up and tend to replace proper food, which is why I stopped drinking it in the past (although I did replace it with tea...)

I love pancakes! I usually eat them with golden syrup. Sometimes I add some yoghurt and fruit. Or ice-cream!

Illabeth your food sounds amazing. But I am clearly an enabler. Ice cream is hands down my favourite breakfast. Even more than bacon, and I really love bacon (but who doesn't?)

I like this system your housemate has, that's cute. I'm trying to decide if it would work in my place, but I'm thinking it wouldn't. It is just my sister and I and its honestly like a sitcom (but a very boring one) with how opposing our lifestyles are, we need someone who is in the middle to bring us both into line. Well, mostly me, but I think she needs to be reigned in a little bit too.

I have the most delicious looking steak waiting for me to cook it for dinner. I suppose I can put some vegetables or salad on my plate. What even goes with steak?

This could be dangerous. I love anything dessert based for breakfast. I think pie is my favourite, or cake. If there is cake in the house it gets eaten. Bacon is good. Bacon is goon with pancakes and syrup too. Or waffles, I love waffles too! I bought myself a waffle maker last year but it doesn't come out too often as they take so damn long and I'm lazy as shit.

It is cute, and it's helping, but when she isn't here I go straight back to my old ways, although it does help me to remember to eat more. Haha. If I was in Sydney I’d offer to be the middle ground, but I think I’m almost as bad as you anyway... Although posting in here helps me to recognise how bad it really is.

Steak is wonderful! The rarer the better. Served with mustard and chips. Broccolini is the best veggie to have with steak in my book. Either that or beans. I have feta cheese on my beans, makes them far yummier.

Dessert for breakfast is the best. I figure people have muffins for breakfast, so its not really that different to have cake? Bacons with pancakes & syrup is amazing, it covers pretty much all of my favourite food groups. Or bacon & french toast with maple syrup. I have heard of bacon ice cream but I'm yet to try it.

I wish you could come and be the middle ground, but yes something tells me we would be a very bad influence on each other.

My steak was amazing. It was so rare, the texture was perfect. I really didn't want to add a side at all but my sister had some cauliflower mash left over so I added that. It was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting and I ate a vegetable today, so that's something.

This thread has become quite hilarious & cute...........food is so weird to me these days, I have barely any appetite, no idea where it went, mostly I just can't be arsed like Illabeth.
I cook for Nic (my teen & DJ)

Just made him sausages with 3 vegies, good sausages. I'm picking at bits of left over salad from last night.
I know how to eat healthy, and often will do. But all I ever do is cook for others and not feel like eating it these days.

I want an apricot Danish right now. Bread Top makes the best, I love Bread Top.

And I agree with dessert for breakfast it is the perfect thing, danishes are good, almond croissants, chocolate fudge cake.
I think I need a holiday from cooking, it's grind thinking of meals, making them, cleaning after- I wish we could just take a pill

It so is! If people can eat frosties for breakfast then I can damn well eat cake. Bacon ice-cream, I don't know, but I'd give it a whirl. I made my HM put bacon in the soup tonight, I told her I would only eat it if she added bacon.

Haha. Maybe next time I'm in Sydney we can go and get pancakes and ice-cream. And just to spite my HM we'd be getting them for dinner. She hates it when I have pancakes for dinner.

I wish I were having steak! Yummy, and cauliflower mash is okay, I don't mind cauliflower any more, I used to hate it. Then I had it with cheese sauce a lot and it got okay, also my HM snuck it in the macaroni cheese. Conditioning is the way forward! We can conquer the humble vegetable.

kxk I have often wished for a pill. Instead I have Hospital formula Sustagen, it's got everything you need, it tastes like a milkshake, takes no effort to prepare and keeps you alive. When I'm being really bad I use it to keep my KJ count hovering around normal.

sustagen, hmm might give it go, I often resort to milkshakes for meals when I feel really picky, vanilla with real vanilla and icecream is so nice though.

As you are from Melbourne Illabeth & a dessert appreciator - have you discovered the Bread top shops? Yummy, Vietnamese/Chinese or something chains everywhere.

And heaps of sweetie treats, cheaper than other patisseries, the pastries are yummo. And they do have weird savoury stuff that is kind of sweet too.
They have weird sweet breads too, coconut bread is rather yummy.

Oh, we so have a hot date. Pancakes on the Rocks is the bomb AND its 24 hours.

My old HM once got so shitty with me for having muesli for dinner. Firstly, I can do a lot worse than muesli, secondly STFU you aren't my mum!!!

Cheese has made many a vegetables tolerable in the past. Maybe one day I will be excited about vegetables.

In my next life I want to be a bear I think. How good would it be to have a big meal and have it last for you more months? The best.

So tonight I had Tandoori Chicken and for dessert I had yogurt with strawberries, crushed walnut and honey. I don't usually eat yoghurt (to much like milk) but I had some left over from the Tandoori chicken and I was determined to make my own variation of what Sweet_Geek had previously posted and I actually enjoyed my dessert. Also I made some carrot dip and the recipe had me using yoghurt lol. At least now I won't have to throw away the left over yoghurt because sometimes it goes out of date before I have a chance to make Tandoori chicken the following week.

Okay, after a bit of Googling. I APPROVE! It's a (very hot) date.

Muesli is a good dinner! I often live off cereal, (but also get yelled at) it's great, and you get milk when you eat it. Dairy!

Oh to be able to hibernate! Or a snake, they don't have to eat all that often. But bears also get to sleep all winter, so they win.

Sustagen is the best stuff ever. You have to get the hospital stuff from the chemist (I get it from chemist warehouse) but it's a complete meal replacer, so you can live on it. I sometimes add ice-cream too.

I know of bread top, but my sister works at Laurent, so I get my pastries from there for freesies. Best stuff ever.

Illabeth, I figured it was because you were a student that you have a need for any kind of caffeine, I can relate to those days. The difference for me was I was diagnosed as a pre diabetic (even though I was extremely tiny and active), so I had to be quite conscious of what I put in my body. If I wasn't aware, I'm sure I would have been as atrocious.

I've never had pancakes with golden syrup, never had them with yoghurt either so I'm a little excited by this atm. I, def going to try this. It was the only a day ago or so that kxk mentioned mixing yoghurt with the batter to make the pancakes more fluffy, and now reading yours used as a topping is fantastic. I'll let you guys know what I rate it in the next few days ;)

I drink tea three to four times a day btw. I'm obsessed with it.

I try and be healthy, but your post on pastries is making me salivate. My one weakness has always been pastries, which is why I obsess over pancakes. I use to walk to the bakery store every morning before my high school classes began and buy an apricot Danish. It was my thing to do, it was my treat and little bit of naughty before cross country training during the year. How I miss those days

Inigo Montoya, that's a lot of yoghurt usage, I love it! I make my own yoghurt so this provides some inspiration for me. I'm also glad you tried the treat and enjoyed it too. I think you are my other half when it comes to food. I'm not big on milk but I do love yoghurt, always have. But only plain yoghurt. I've never enjoyed the fruit ones for some reason.

I've never had a carrot dip before, I'm going to look this up and give it a try

I drink maybe 3 cups of Green tea a day, I'm not sure what health benefits it has but I know it goes through me very quickly. That has to be good right?

EDIT:

This is the recipe I used for the carrot dip.

http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/29007/carrot+and+cumin+dip

Green tea is great for you I've heard. It helps with digestion and cleanses your body, or so I'm told. Plus it fills you up. I heard warm drinks are good for stoma ch acids and is preferred to drink room temperature water over cold. But who knows?

Thanks for the recipe, it sounds delish! I can't wait to try it :)

I'm supposed to not eat Gluten, but that doesn't stop me. I'm so naughty. I do avoid it most of the time, but often I just bite (pardon the pun). Like when I go out for pancakes! Even though I could just make them at home GF.

You've never had Golden Syrup on pancakes!?! My mind is blown! It's all I ever used to have on them before I was brave enough to venture out.

When I have yoghurt with my pancakes I often have it with honey. Always plain, greek yoghurt, any kinds of fruit and some honey. Yummy. Adding it to the batter is good, I use buttermilk which does the same thing. I also add yoghurt to my cakes if I don't have buttermilk on hand.

When I'm being bad I have a lot of black tea, I use it as a meal replacer. Oops.

I'm the only person who hadn't clued on with this yoghurt in batter and pancake thing. Geez, I must be living under a rock lol. I will def give the yoghurt with honey topping with fruit a try though. But nope, never had golden syrup on pancakes before, it actually sounds strange, because I've always had it with maple or just honey.

I like black team but when you say a lot, I'm actually afraid to know the answer. At least it has antioxidants?
