What is it with Big Brother and Gay Men?

Oh ok. I always got the impression he was a bit of a homophobe.

Great memories of Dino in the shower this thread has made me remember.😜 I need a life!

Thats because he was closeted ;) (Im just playing, wish he was though)

I also thought Gordon (RIP) might have been - you know - comfortable with it. Although he did have a freakishly large head. Well, both of them as it turned out.

First Benjamin, then Ben and now Jason. Why is it that when it comes to the 'goofy ' types of men, Big Brother would choose the gay ones? And worst even, when it comes to attractive men they'd have to be straight? I mean...

Handsome, attractive men: Always the straight ones chosen for the show (besides David06)..

Goofy, campy men: They have to be gay...

Is this some sort of a bias against attractive gay men or are they too afraid to have hot gay men on the show (maybe we're not ready for same sex romance in the house)?

Oh, I was glad we had a lesbian like Tully - a pretty effeminate one until, um, she kinda 'turned' straight and was probably bisexual to begin with rather than a lesbian. :/
Think it's probably more the type of gay men that try out for BB - I'm not sure the masc guys are that into it....or actually they probably are but aren't as at peace with their BB obsession as the camp dudes.

And....um...Tully hooked up with a mf GUY on the show...she bi!

There was someone on here in the launch thread saying Jason was selling her house and he was as normal as they come. So he either plays down his gayness for work or hes playing it up for BB?

I don't see the goofiness in him that everyone else seems to. I think he looked pretty normal in the clips they showed of him with his friends and working etc
I still think it's that stupid suit he wore in there.

I'll bet he turns out to be nothing like the pee wee Herman type everyone thinks he is.

@mutleyp , @Consuela and @MADONNA ! What I win? Oh you said CONTESTANTS!! Nothing to see here. Move along.

I am truly honoured @CaspersMum

Mostly, I'm just really tired of them casting a gay dude or two every year yet we never get lesbians unless they're lesbians who are so not-lesbians that even in their promos they say "I like that I don't look like a stereotypical lesbian because it means I still get attention from guys" (Tully).
x:
But you're not tired of the straight men they're casting? I mean if you're part of the LGBT, you shouldn't be unwelcoming towards your fellow gays...well, unless, like me, you have problems with the goofy ones only. Lol...

I think whether they are attractive or not is up to individual preference. For example, while I despise his attitude, I think Ben 2012 wasn't all that bad looking, at all.
Benjamin had a nice masculine look - hooded dark eyes, nice smile. His bitchiness and campy behavior kinda turned me off in the sensual sense, though I admired it in the comedic sense. If he were (naturally) masculine and had facial hair he would've been more attractive and could've resembled the hottie Ricky Martin. :)

I'm always happy to see LGBT people represented, but that doesn't excuse them from criticism altogether. Casting gay men every season but very rarely gay women is an issue, and we can celebrate gay men being represented while still being like hey fuck you this isn't fair. Fix your shit.

But it is very shitty the way everyone is straight except for the token gay. It's weird.
It's the same with people of colour, too.
It's like they're saying "Can't say we're racist, we put a brown person in!!!"
The people who cast BB really need to get their shit together.

Personally I feel that labels mean nothing. We might already have had housemates who weren't "out" which is their business. If the casting people on Big Brother are casting tokens, fine, they already advertise that they want either Aussies or people with the necessary paperwork to stay for promotional periods.

Sure, sexuality is a big thing for some people, but we should be focusing on the cast as people, what does sexuality have to do with it? Cast someone because they are entertaining, bitchy, kind, whatever, but they shouldn't be casting on the basis that "every series needs one".

Take the 2014 UK Big Brother for example, two male housemates had a bit of a relationship, one practically screamed gay (Marc), and the other guy (Christopher) I had no idea until they were heard kissing and seen having a cuddle.

I wasn't focusing on them as a gay couple, I was focusing on them as just another BB couple. Labels mean nothing.

Lol I just saw their pics and Chris does scream gay.

Marc screams "flamboyant gay".

I'm feeling you!
Hot femme lesbians don't appear to try out for BB.
Sandra gives me life though!

There was a Chris and a Christopher, so make sure you are referring to Christopher.

The point is, he didn't go in labelling himself as gay/bi yet he obviously found a relationship where he sought comfort. People don't have to "label" themselves as being gay or lesbian. It's upto the individual to mention that on their bio, and I'm sure there have been housemates who identified as gay or lesbian, but didn't broadcast it.

Interesting point. Has any BB had two gays on at one time? BBUSA did with BB9, but one of the men left due to an emergency. We've never really seen a gay romance. However, over here on BBUSA, we did have Zach, who maintained he was straight, hug and lay in bed with Frankie, who is openly gay. Many of us thought they might kiss at some point, but it never happened. It's 2014. It's time to cast more than just one gay guy.
This years bbuk had two gay men who got together temporarily and the "celebrity" big brother had a transsexual. The episodes are available online.
