Interesting clip with Tim. However, that doesn't give you the right to label someone else's sexuality. Tully chooses to identify as a lesbian, although she admits the label isn't a 100% fit for her, it's still what she identifies as. As Tully and Tim say in their conversation, sexuality isn't just black and white. Tully is just going with the label she thinks best describes herself. Even if that's a lesbian that experiences attraction to men as well. She obviously feels her attraction to women is a lot more predominant and therefore believes homosexual is a closer match than bisexual when she tries to explain her sexuality in simple black and white terms. Bisexuality is commonly believed to be a 50/50 attraction to both men and women (which I know isn't accurate, it's just the widely believed definition) and Tully doesn't believe that describes her sexuality the best.
Labels are meant to empower us, not restrict us. They help to articulate ourselves. Sexuality is a spectrum and Tully is simply trying to use the best label that helps to describe her, but she doesn't perfectly fit into any of the "standard" definitions of any current sexuality labels (a lot of people don't by the way). Tully doesn't choose her sexuality but she does choose how she expresses it, what she identifies as and what she labels it as. If that's a lesbian who also feels some attraction to men then so be it.
As for representing either lesbians or bisexuals. Tully didn't go into the house with an agenda to raise LGB issues or represent them either. She's gone in as her own person without trying to take on that kind of baggage. She's being judged for who she is, not that she's a lesbian. She doesn't really epitomise any stereotypes about either sexuality anyway, so I don't see the big deal.
As for the cuddling up for Drew thing, at the moment it's just for a bit of affection and comfort. There's nothing wrong with friendly spooning. I can imagine i'd want to do the same in the house. I'll be concerned if her thing with Drew goes any further though.
Excellent post. Very insightful. Thanks for sharing as i enjoyed reading your thoughts on the matter.
