THE VIRUS 2020 - the good, the bad, and the ugly

Doesn't mean that some people don't have problems with flu shots. Just like some people have problems after getting a COVID vaccine.
 
Got my flu shot last week, because it is brilliant
Used to be very susceptible to catching flu, several times a year
and being very ill, same for pneumonia
Since getting vaccines for both have been protected, never had any infections nor any side effects
Sure has improved my quality of life

Does anyone else here have an auto immune disease?

People are getting slack again, on PT and shops

I have been talking to some of the engineers here about whether (truly) autonomous cars will ever really occur. They work in the industry but say no - because of the infrastructure cost. Definitely an interesting subject.

It's not to do with urban planning, but what you can do when you don't waste billions in tax breaks to win elections and are forward-thinking.

RE self-driving cars. I think the film Minority Report was kind of on the money. Having separate infrastructure for self-driving cars. While that wouldn't be build, free-ways and certain roads could be adapted. In America, Cadillac's self driving only works on certain roads which are included in the system. Apparently, it's very good because it is designed to know the roads. As opposed to always be scanning the surroundings and figuring things out.

Highways are where self-driving shines. The driving assist features will just keep getting better and better. Even on the lower end, lane assist and adaptive cruise control are great.

It will be a progression. The way those little assist features work for higher speeds and freeways. We'll get versions that work at lower speeds and local roads. Driving will just become a lot easier. They already can make cars that can park themselves, not deliberately bump into anything. There'll be more features that "assist" where it's mainly doing the work but you're in some control.

See what I was saying earlier. They're wanting us to get the virus.

I understand at some point we need to open up, virus will come but only after most of us are vaccinated. With hopefully minimal impact. We can't stay shut forever etc. Yet there really is a push to just give up as soon as possible on no local transmission.

I didn't see it, but apparently on one of those panel shows on the weekend someone was complaining about "Australians and New Zealand are the only countries where the citizens are denied the chance to catch the virus." Something like that and everyone just nods and says nothing.

There is nuance to the issue of opening up but I am not really seeing it.

I got mine a couple of weeks back. Jab and then forgot. No issues or side effects. Wasn't even sore after the initial jab.

The government just said, "Vaccines coming" and did the bare minimum about it. Scotty from Marketing is all about the messaging, not about the doing. They were all happy to say we'd be getting the vaccine, in first quarter 2021 it'd be available for all Australians. It was all lies and a bluff.

Pfizer was saying they could build a manufacturing plant a year ago for their vaccine The government turned them down. We had a place that could build the Astra Zenica, so they just put all the eggs in that basket. Easiest and laziest option. If that vaccine had a bigger issue than clots, we'd be in a really bad place.

I remember at one point in the news cycle last year they announced securing something like 50 million vaccines from a couple of suppliers. Then it turned out they hadn't signed any deals at all.

Same. It was around this time last year we got the second outbreak in Melbourne. Fingers crossed.

Just booked our vaccines for late June today. We were offered earlier ones, as in two weeks time, but I got scared. At least I'll get my head around it in, what, 5 weeks?

Yup.i think, from how it sounds, we are quite near by. My doctors surgery isn't doing it, but the one down the road is. I was waiting to be called in by our gp, and when a friend told me today hers had called her I should go out of my way to do it.
A lot if my clients are getting it done, so I guess I should.
