The Block: Glasshouse

Yeah I wondered where that suddenly grew from. Easy fix just slip a few narcotics in his beer and get the clippers onto it when he's out cold!

Well he didn't so much grow the pornstache as shave off most of his beard to reveal it. But he just came across as a wanker the second that appeared. So I'm off him now.

What do you get when The Block meets Big Brother? The Sanctuary.

Taking some time away from The Glasshouse, Big Brother set Blockheads Michael and Carlene a challenge to pull together a secret space for this year’s series, to be known as The Sanctuary.

The task was filmed by A Current Affair with a teaser played on Friday night’s show, starting off with reporter Jenna Hudson handing the couple an official letter from Big Brother with the specifications of their challenge.

Break from The Block: Big Brother challenged Blockheads Michael and Carlene to build The Sanctuary

The show’s production designer, Rodney Brundson, took the Gold Coast couple through their plans for the space, with the onus on the experienced renovators to transform the part indoor, part outdoor area into the ultimate relaxation place.

‘The Sanctuary is based on a Bali theme,’ Rodney advised them.

Carlene straight away thought of Bamboo to decorate the outdoor area near the pool and the couple also went shopping for trendy light fixtures, tiles and paint.

Straight to work: The Gold Coast couple wasted no time as chippy Michael grabbed the tools for the timber

Bali theme: Carlene began painting the Balinese themed space after the couple shopped for fixtures and tiles

In the story we see chippy Michael prepping the timber, while Carlene gets straight into the painting.

When asked what their advice would be as reality TV contestants for this year’s Big Brother housemates, the couple had very different ideas.

‘Seriously, just be yourself,’ Carlene began.

‘The audience will see straight through you, if you’re not.’

Hidden Sanctuary: Michael and Carlene's Sanctuary will be unveiled along with the rest of the house when the show kicks off on Monday

While for Michael, his piece of advice was more for the benefit of the viewers.

‘Try to hook up with the girls in there, cause it’s good viewing for us – we love watching it’ he laughed.

After the housemates find out about the secret room, they will have to battle it out for some time in The Sanctuary during the series.

The finished hidden retreat won’t be unveiled until the new season of Big Brother kicks off on Monday night, conveniently right after The Block on the Nine Network.

loving the block.

dee needs to pull her head in, who does she really think she is?

max and karsten I so wanted to hate, but they are lovely.

loved chris and jennas kitchen...LOVED it....also loved the boys kitchen. Can not understand why Michael (who I thought was a prat but have grown fond of) and carlenes kitchen won though...boring as....and while I did love d&d's styling, am I the only one who was immediately put off by the fact that you had to walk all the way past the bench and around just to get into the kitchen? It really shit me just looking at it.

haha how funny was it last night, watching dee get outed. They haven't done this before. I don't remember so much eaves dropping as there has been this season either...I think even the producers are sick of her bitching and are having a great time giving it back to her in this way.

The blonde's battle on The Block! Dee and Maxine launch into a catfight at furniture store during a $15000 Glasshouse challenge to design mini-living rooms

Whenever a challenge is launched, it's almost certain that the ensuing tension will bring out the worst in contestants - and that's precisely what happened with The Block's Dee and Max on Wednesday.

During a competition to build a mini-living room, the blondes attempted to outsmart each other by racing to a Melbourne furniture showroom to pick their favourite items first.

But just seconds after fiery Dee arrived at the showroom to scour out the designs, event manager Max breezed in, prompting her rival to explode: 'Get out, I was here first - I get first dibs.'

Fight! Dee (R) takes a playful swipe at Maxine (L) as they battle it out for the store's best furniture on Wednesday night's The Block

Dee then jokingly clawed at Max, who stepped back to avoid her swipe, as she playfully - yet meaningfully - insisted: 'This is all sold, sold sold.'

The teams were each given a budget of $15,000 to design mini versions of their living rooms, with the winners netting four pieces of furniture to go towards their final showrooms.

Host Scott Cam declared the challenge open saying: 'You guys will blow away the judges with your living and dining, but who's got the cash to pull it off?'

'This is all sold, sold sold.' Dee pointed to items in the showroom and jokingly declared she had bought them all. Each team was given a $15000 budget, and the duo that won the competition got to keep four items of furniture

'I have come up with a corker of a challenge, this one is a ripper, a wild card, where you get the chance to show judges a taster of what's to come.'

He added: 'This is the Block, that means I want every piece of furniture has to be Australian made.'

'Every item has to be 100 per cent Australian and the winner gets to keep four items from their showcase, the runner up, three, those in third place two, ... and the last zilch.'

All the contestants were under the pump as they struggled to find custom-made items to budget.

Carlene, 31, initially went over budget while she shopped without Michael and was forced to return some items.

Chris and Jenna searched frantically for an industrialised theme room, splurging on an outsized television, while brothers Shannon and Simon were also stressed over sourcing as much timber as they could for their living space.

Lightening up: Contestant Dee was finally forced to admit she was taking it all too seriously

After agreeing on furnishing their room in a 'minimalist style', it was the brothers who won over the judges taking home a side board, sofa, single seater and light pendant.

Dee and Darren came second and claimed the artwork - which Darren described as 'having great boobies,' - as well as a rug and dining table.

Karsten and Max took home coffee tables, while Michael and Carlene were able to hold onto a sofa.

Prizes: They chose to take home a side board, sofa, single seater and light pendant

Meanwhile, Jenna and Chris came last but they were told not to despair by style guru and expert judge Shaynna Blaze, who told them their home styling had developed enormously.

Shaynna said: 'Take heart, you've really come on since the start of the show but televisions don't sell houses - artwork does. And don't be afraid to go bold - be confident.'

Find out what happens on Wednesday's episode on Channel Nine at 7.30pm.

And how is it only now they find out about the tree? Don't you think the logistics of putting a tree in your house would have been discussed to begin with?
