The Block: Glasshouse

I thought the boys handled their win very graciously considering the circumstances.
The boys did very well. What a crap position for them and even Chris & Jenna to be in. Normally at the end they're doing a Champagne toast to the winner, streamers are flying, they even had fireworks for the twins I think. This time - rightfully - they had none of that but that takes away from the boys' win too.

Everyone wants to win but not like that.[DOUBLEPOST=1413108999][/DOUBLEPOST]
I thought that too, but they looked really young, like early 20's.
They'd be bidding with their parents' $. Either as an investment or to live in themselves.

So i take the results are not so good, hardly surprising, horrible spot and nothing inspiring inside.
going to check news....

Sky high had better apartments and than glasshouse I'm guessing:
1. Better overall location

Correct - just around the corner from st vincents place, ever since I saw that spot as a kid I have dreamed of living there.
It is the prettiest, prettiest of streets, park in the middle, gorgeous lacey stand alone mansion terraces face the park, lots of leafy trees.

That part of the world is lovely, and close to all sorts of awesome stuff. parks, community stuff, arty stuff, aquatic centre, city/
but also peaceful.

High st would suck, trams and congestion and lots of noise.

You know what killed the last three auctions? The third auctioneer and his three vendor bids. The minute they start pulling that shit, I'd pack up my paddle and leave. You know you're getting reamed.

Brothers Simon and Shannon Voss win Channel Nine series The Block as auction results leave contestants gutted

THE Block Glasshouse finale delivered joy and heartbreak with the most uneven result in the show’s history on Sunday night.

Two teams left the Melbourne auctions with a measly $10,000 for their weeks of backbreaking work, one team took home $40,000 and two others pocketed more than $300,000 each.

The series winners, who also collect an extra $100,000 for their troubles, were Coffs Harbour brothers Shannon and Simon Voss who described their win as “bittersweet” after seeing their mates fail to make any significant cash. They earned $335,000 profit when their Prahran apartment sold for $1,910,000.

Coming second was Sydney couple Chris and Jenna Susetio who earned a profit of $310,000 when their property sold for $1,810,000.

Former AFL star Darren Jolly and his controversial wife Deanne made just $10,000, as did the popular Queenslanders Michael and Carlene Duffy.

Winning $40,000 was Newcastle newlyweds and bookies favourites Maxine Stokes and Karstan Smith.

It wasn’t quite the nightmare of the 2011 series when three of the four houses on offer were passed in, but the series executive producer and co-creator Julian Cress admitted the results of the final three auctions of the night were “unfortunate”.

“Something happened this afternoon that’s not easily explained by me or frankly by anyone else,” Mr Cress said.

Stokes and Smith’s apartment, which featured a secret rooftop room, was nabbed by a young Chinese couple, both 20, on behalf of their overseas parents for $1,710,000.

Mr Smith said he was disappointed at the results.

“What happened, don’t know,” he said.

“But nothing you can do about it. It’s out of my hands.”

Michael and Carlene Duffy’s flat sold for $1,390,000, limping over the reserve with $10,000 to spare.

The buyer, who didn’t want his name disclosed, said he had never watched the show before viewing the apartments.

The Scotsman, who calls Melbourne home, said the property was an investment.

Melbourne couple Darren and Deanne Jolly’s apartment sold for $1,380,000, also getting just $10,000 for the former AFL player and his wife.

The stunning upset soured celebrations at the popular Channel 9 reality show.
Agent Russell Cambridge of Biggin & Scott, who sold the Jollys’ apartment, said the small pool of buyers shared among the five auctions was in part responsible for the disappointing results.

“There were three main buyers really hot and two of them were mine,” Mr Cambridge said.

“The issue was the depth of buyers. There weren’t enough bidders.

“In the real world, I would have passed mine in and I would have got $1.5 million or better.”

Only bidders who registered with each contestant’s nominated real estate agents were allowed to attend Saturday’s auction.
Many of the prospective buyers registered to bid for all the five apartments.

However, Mr Cress said it was up to the real estate agents to get bidders for the auction.
“It was a stunning and an unfortunate result for the last three auctions,” he said.

“It’s a bit disingenuous of a real estate agent to suggest that the problem today was that there weren’t enough buyers in the room and that’s our fault.

“If there weren’t enough buyers in the room then I would suggest that probably they should be looking at themselves.”

However, he said, the agents worked incredibly hard and did their level best.

Shannon, the older of the winning Sydney Voss brothers, said their victory was “bittersweet”.

“As stoked as we are to win, it just absolutely feels like as if our guts have been ripped out,” Mr Voss said.

“Because we have spent such intense times with these guys, we are best mates. To see your mates do so much work and not be rewarded is very hard.”

The popular Channel 9 reality show, which started 11 years ago in Sydney, saw the five sets of contestants tackle a 3450sq m 1980s office building conversion.

The new Block at 121 High St, Prahan featured apartments with three bedrooms and two parking spaces.

WBP Property spokesman Greville Pabst said the apartments failed to attract any publicity premium.

“I think it is very disappointing,” Mr Pabst said.

“The expectations prior to the auction for prices to be a lot higher.

“The expectations really were for the apartments to exceed a value of $2 million.

“Everybody is a little bit surprised at the results in that we believe that they have come in at market value or perhaps a little bit below.”
