The Bachelorette

I am more interested, not so much as to what they do (although I am interested), but how do they manage to hold the job down AND do all of the media things and whatever. Same with the BB people. In my situation I'd either be fired or have to resign I reckon.

You'd surely have to take some type of leave of absence or unpaid leave (if you could get it?). I couldn't imagine my boss allowing that. Sometimes it's not even worth going away for a week because of all the crap piled up when I get back.
I know a few of them went straight back to work after the media rounds finished for BB, like David and Gemma.
I think some might never go back, they probably always wanted to make something out of their time in the spotlight.

I don't feel people have to be career focused, however, like others have mentioned, I do find it interesting when they focus on the male Sam's career but not the female Sam's, on the equivalent show. It has an nagging feeling in my mind of oh she's just a woman who cares how she earns her money - these boys will bring home the bacon for her.""

I think they only focussed on male Sam's so much because it was his own business, as opposed to a job working for someone else, and it was free advertising. Can you imagine how many would want to sign up there now?

I think is it a catch all for a variety of things :) They consult!

I for example help out not for profits with whatever help they need that they may not currently have the skills in their team to do, and don't need to hire someone permanently - this might be project management, strategy, admin, reporting, HR, graphic design etc. I work for myself so I could say I am a business owner or CEO or something wanky like that , but I tend to say consultant, cos I don't know what else to call it![DOUBLEPOST=1444724208][/DOUBLEPOST]

Omg yes I get irrationally annoyed at people calling themselves a CEO of their own small business. Like, yes, technically it is the correct job title but it sounds so wanky when it's a very small business, especially with no other staff. I see it a lot with acquaintances of mine.

Coincidentally, your comment reminded me of this article I read just yesterday which kind of supports what you're saying. I'm not casting judgements here or pushing anything, just thought it an interesting perspective.

Tonight's the night!
As much as I love watching these shows, I'm kind of at the point now that I just want to know who the final guy is.
I think Channel 10 did a good thing by making this shorter than the Bachelor season.

PS had a very short wander over to the other forum earlier. Doing my head in so I left very quickly. Too much over-analysing going on to make it enjoyable for me this time around.

I think they'd be better off programming it Tues and Thurs nights ... spread it out across week a bit more
It is better shorter .. but I don't think they had enough takers to have intruders ... and if the girls turned bitchy over intruders imagine what the boys would do - even more butt grabbing and back slapping hilarity!

I think affirmative action is strongly to blame for this. I personally know for a fact several female students were artificially progressed through their engineering course despite failing the maths prerequisite portion to keep gender quotas up. There were also female only scholarships, campus jobs for female engineering students and prizes awarded for being female. If I was female, I would have no hesitation in taking every benefit and gender handout available, but the downside is a presumption of artificial achievement.

I don't doubt diversity hires and quotas happen, with the potential to lead to a lesser candidate. Nor that positive sex discrimination is a reaction to previous tradition e.g. voting rights, boys club, close to all male boards etc. Uni education more broadly is no different e.g. dumbing down of degrees (regardless of sex) to fill quotas (funding), distribution of marks relative to cohort etc. So, I agree about the downside of artificial achievement.....it compensates for the artificial achievement of the boy's club. :p

Actually, perhaps that article was a PR campaign while the guy's CV was on the desk of a female decision-maker. :p

I agree it's quite obsessive over there, I find it entertaining though! I enjoy reading it but I don't agonise over the ending like they do.

or rather than going by what you have heard by a couple of people you could look at research that actually states:

In Australia, girls perform similarly to, or better than, boys and more girls than boys complete a high school (Year 12) education and more Australian girls than boys follow a pathway to university professional courses. Today, there are more women university graduates than men.

The women that I have met that are in "traditionally male oriented work"are bloody good at thier jobs. In fact if you are looking at the trades eg plumbing electrician etc you can't bullshit your way through for very long - male or female!
