AFTER each episode, we ask The Bachelor’s host-with-the-most to answer five of our burning questions about the show.
Read on for Osher Gunsberg’s take on Sam’s freak out, Nina’s meltdown and whether Lana should worry about the repercussions of those death stares.
Winning strategy ... Watching Sam at work with the kids had a big effect on the women on set.

1. How important was it for the girls to do well on the group date?
“It’s imperative for Sam to see what these ladies are like around kids. That’s his entire life. That’s his job. It’s not about will you be a good mother or not — of course each of those women will be a good mother — he deals with groups of kids every day. You know a lot about a person by the way they treat a child. I tell you what though, when the kids ran over and Sam starts high fiving them all and going, ‘How are ya? My name’s Sam, what’s your name?’, my director Jo said into my earpiece, ‘Oh my God, I think everyone here just got pregnant.’ You could hear people ovulating from about three kilometres around us.”
Controversial romance ... Sam Wood and Lana got closer during their first single date.

2. Why did Lana’s single date with Sam push Nina over the edge?
“There’s something very Australian in that feeling of, ‘Everybody gets a go.’ And we’re all particular about how things should be done. So you can imagine that there was a sense that Nina should get a second date before one of the new ladies got a first date. That might have been the unspoken imagined rule going on. And when that didn’t happen, it knocked the legs out from under Nina and she started to struggle with it. It really broke my heart watching that.”
Under pressure ... Nina had a rough time coping with the night’s events.

3. When Lana returned with a rose from her date, if looks could kill, how unpleasant would her death have been?
“That was some Tom Cruise
War of the Worlds disintegrator ray stuff. She just would have turned into dust in front of everybody and Tom would be wiping her off. My goodness. It was death rays at 50 paces, wasn’t it? I really felt for Sam when he walked into that room. He’s a very empathetic man and can really tune in when people are having a hard time. So when he first arrived and walked into that room it hit him right in the face. He was hit with this wall of stress and anguish and strangeness and conflict. It was tough for him and I certainly didn’t think I’d see him come looking for me during the rose ceremony.”
Wing man ... Osher Gunsberg was fast on his feet to help out a distressed Sam Wood.

4. Where were you when that happened? And what did you say to talk Sam off the ledge he’d put himself on?
“I was downstairs in the control room watching it. I saw him walk out — and it’s a bit of a walk from the rose ceremony room to the kitchen where we talked — so I had enough time to jet upstairs and find him. It was very much, ‘Go team, go!’. I don’t ever give Sam advice, it’s very important that I don’t. I just ask him questions to help him clarify things. It was along the lines of, ‘Do you feel you’ve had enough time? Do you feel it’s fair? And what do you want to do — if you don’t want to let anyone go tonight, you don’t have to.’ But I’m just marvelling at Bachie’s David Blaine work. Making roses magically appear out of thin air — where did that even come from? He’s amazing!”
5. Okay, spoil us up for tonight’s episode Osher!
“We definitely see whatever started last week between Nina and Rachel, tonight the metaphors get thinner and thinner until it’s just, ‘You’re this’ and ‘You’re that’. Goodness gracious. And is there a shirtless Bachelor? Well probably. We’re making television here. Guns out buddy!”
